He said it’s an advanced drill. He usually only shows it to his up and coming young players when they reach a certain level of expertise.Got a very specific set of things to work on there Toph - sounds good

Not to be done when anyone else around in the firing line.
Start with PW. Hit a soft high bunker shot that lands nicely on the green. Should come out like you hit a good sand iron. Allowed to get a nice high lie in the sand.
Once you succeed try with 9 iron etc etc working all the way to 4 iron. A la Seve.
To do this you need to get down very low, knees very bent, adjust grip a little, maybe 10-20 degrees open, Lay the club down so the shaft angle gets close to horizontal with the 4 iron, but most importantly you can only do this with good swing mechanics, on plane, and that wood chopping motion I talked about. He reckons 90% of golfers never “get” this idea and feel.
Quite amazing to hit a soft high flop shot out of the sand with a 4 iron. Great confidence booster.
When you go back to 58 wedge you kind of feel you can do anything. Also the first time I’ve consistently hit soft high bunker shots that stop in a foot or two - with range balls. I’ve always wondered how the pros get that much spin and stop out of the sand.
He said when he was young his coach made him do it twice a week out of the practice bunker at Robins Woods. Which is a deep green side bunker to an elevated green.

That’s pretty much my reaction at the time. We went over to the bunker and I said “get the 58?” And he said “no - we’ll take the PW, the 9, 7, 5 and....4”Wowsers

Two things:
1. When are we meeting for another practise session so you can show me this drill?
and
2. "Advanced Drill" for "certain level of expertise" and your saying your GA handicap is what? Sandbagging much ahead of Nationals?
and, sorry, one other thing ...
"up and coming young players" ...
Hahahaaaa ...

Look out, you'll get crucified on here for doing that ...
Apparently, it's much better to go onto the golf course and have NFI and loose heaps of golf balls spraying shots everywhere while you're trying to incorporate the changes recommended.
