Wow Weeti. Are you related to Day?
Day can obviously play, but do his results match the perception that you and others have of him? With only a single win, I think not.

I think that is where current perceptions of what he's capable of are. I assume you think that that is what people think of him too based on your question?

I assume you wouldn't be suggesting he was overrated if he was only rated as someone who could win a PGA event and contend at majors and can crack the top 20 in the world? Because he's already done that?

Given he's already world number 12, a PGA winner, a multiple contender in majors at the age 25 and with a few months taken off for the birth of his baby ... what is it that people are saying about him that you contend is an unrealistic assessment of his potential?

Overrated is a very general statement. What rating is too high?

Because for me he could definitely achieve a world too 10 ranking. He could win a major. He could win more tour events.

Don't worry - I remember now. You said he was spoken of as a future hall of famer.

In that case I agree with you - way too early to tell.

Look Abbott may have a point of sorts and this statement I made at 4.15 of this Sky News Australian Open preview (below) two years ago (2011) may come back to bite me on the backside  but I was prepared to make that comment publically with my name (and face) attached and we shall see where it all goes.

I make no excuses for talking a player up as that is what analysts are meant to do. We get some wrong and some right but it is my opinion based on what I had seen then and since.

Early days yet. We also talk a bit about Scott earlier.

Quoted for future reference. :)

Much better to be overrated than not rated at all. All I am saying is that he would probably be disappointed with his conversion rate. I hope he turns it around and wins plenty.

If he gets into the OWGR top ten with only a single victory that will look a little odd.

But Abbott and others he was inside the top ten for most of the latter half of 2011.

You could maybe say Jason has slightly underachieved, when you look at some chances he hasn't converted.

But I definitely don't think he is overrated.
He is 25 and sky is the limit.

I hope Day wins multiple major's ... he's an Aussie and seems like a good fella

however, I do admit to cringing a little in the last couple of years when he has raved on about how important family is to him ... yada yada yada ... and he is talking wife and kids ... but at 25 with the golf world at his feet - i would have rathered he was talking about winning everything in golf and gunning down Tiger

on the flip-side, getting all the wife and kids stuff out of the way early, could make him more grounded for the long haul

I guess everybody does things in their own time ... but with his talent at what 23 when he got married ? ... last thing I would have been thinking was wife and kids

Winner - of the NAGA Award - 2013 ISG National Championships :( ... I sucked, and I sucked HUGE

Winner - Biggest Head as measured at the 2013 ISG National Chamionships ... Official.  Hard to believe bigger than Goldy's ... but true.

Some blokes are better for being married, some worse, no idea which bracket Day will land. 4 kids by 30 will be an issue to winning, it isnt the Jack era anymore.

Overrated is a stupid term, the great Braith was the most overated NRL player for years. He didnt rate himself, he just took the coin.

Agree

Jeez I think what I had achieved by the time I was 25....

I was surfing and golfing when work didn't get in the way

I made being on the dole sound interesting .....

This guy has achieved a fair bit ......yeah he's a bit slow at times but he's not alone .

I hold a kind of breathless anticipation for Jason Day.  I hope that he continues to achieve his apparent potential, but I fear that the pressure we put on promising young sports people adds an extra burden to them.  I love that he is seeming to show his wares in matchplay - one of the most exciting forms of golf.

I am thrilled that he is coming back to Oz for this year's season, as that was my one real question mark about him supporting the local tour.
