Having a bit of reflection on my past 2 months of Golf and not what I was hoping, but probably what I should have expected.

3 scores out of my last 7 have been either 36 or 35 points. Other 4 have been ordinary to say the least.

24 points at Curlewis was extremely disappointing considering I had 19 points on the first (back )9. Dropping my bundle once the wind came up, and I wiped the 2nd and 3rd hole not being able to play into the wind or then left me more frustrating than I have been on a Golf Course in a long time.

I wasn't playing well and my technical inability was exposed.

So being the stubborn SOB I am, I continued on struggling to self diagnose my faults and continued to play inconsistent, frustrating golf.

2 weeks of Foursomes gave me some time to recover, however I was still at a loss as to why I was unable to hit a decent iron, or wedge between 120m-70m.

I was completely helpless,  call it yips, unable to focus, or hit the shot. I considered hitting 7 wood bump shots, and couldn't hit those either.

I then thought back to a similar experience a few years back, and I remembered Pete the Pro's advice about my grip being too weak, and to firm it up with my right hand.

It took a hole or two, but the wild slice, blade/shank, was gone. I was hitting my irons ok, and all my other clubs improved as well.

Scraped together 35 points and hit some really good shots on the 2nd 9. Even broke 100.

I also found some form with the putter, not making all the putts, but the big miss past the hole was not there, and I got a better set up and stroke going. Follow through there is key, a full stroke, not jabbing it or pulling up after you putt the ball.

So back to next week, looking forward to playing 18 holes with the stronger grip, and making it easier to get close to the green on the approach shots. Best flag will drop off, so need a good score.

Not expecting to score less than 95. It's there, I know I can do it, but 36 points will be ok.

Playing today I realized that the best way to get my irons working was to hit them with a full shot and not try and swing easy like with Driver and Fairway woods.
Worked pretty well and hit a 8i out of the left fairway bunker on the 15th to just on the fringe, middle of green about 115m. Bounced and stopped. This helped me make par and got me back in front in the match (it was a no shot hole and my opponent missed the green and made bogey).
Putting is getting better. Practice now that the sun is out on the practice green and chipping area.
Looking forward to nect comp on Sunday.

Mick, you wer playing from the whites.

That hole slopes into that bunker from everywer from those tees. You either need to carry that distance from the whites or lay up well short.

Short from the whites is maybe 160 uphill. Fly it is maybe 190. Left side fly will give you a much better approach and considerably more run. If you go up the righft side, its a very real possibility you will be behind a tree from 100m odd with the ball at knee height

Up and down from 130 out in the bunker is a very tall order mate

Aimed at the left side of the trap and it started left of it and didn't fade enough Rob. Landed on the hill left and bounced into the front part of the bunker. Tee to middle of green was 283m and the distance to middle from the bunker was about 115m. I took extra club because of the wind and mainly because I didn't expect to hit it so cleanly. I picked it pure and it was quite magnificent watching it sail up and then draw back with the wind to the fringe and sit down a foot from the divot. Putt from there to a front pin was on line but short. Didn't roll out as expected. Made the 5ft downhill putt for par.
It is moments like these that I reckon is why we all play golf. That one pure brilliant shot that you make in the moment. It's as if you are having an out of body experience.
If I can keep the faith with my irons the next few months could be awesome on the course for me.

So a run down on today's round just because it highlights some improvement in my game.
Thanks to GG33 for his insight into my swing last time we played.
I have also strengthened my grip as detailed above and when I remember to do that and swing through and not up its quality off the tee and on the approach shots.
Shotgun off the 3rd but I'll start the write up from 1.

Hole 1 Par 4 380m. Bogey
Good drive 2nd short. Missed putt par right for tap in 5.
Hole 2. Par 5 490m. Bogey.
Scoop drive right. 2nd into trees. 3rd fairway 4th short. Pitch over back and made the putt down the hill for 6.
Hole 3. Par 3. 155m. Tee shot 5w of goodness to middle. 3 putt bogey after birdie putt lipped
out. 4.
Hole 4. Par 4 380m. Good drive and great 3w to leave a 60m pitch in up the hill. Made the 20ft putt for a 4.
Hole 5. Par 4 320m.
Drive good to right of fairway bunker. Good pitching wedge to middle of green. 3 putt bogey 5.
Hole 6. Scooped drive right and scooter 3w short of bunkers. 50m pitch and just miss put for tap in bogey 5.
Hole 7. Par 3 Uphill 177m .
3w pure for me to 30m off green. Pitch is good and 2 putt bogey 4.
Hole 8 Par 5 480m.
Okish drive then what I thought was a solid 3w omly went 150m
Still 170m from the green and right into bunker and then out into greenside bunker. Got out and 2 putt double bogey 7. First of the day.
Hole 9. Par 4 370m. Good drive down left side fairway and better 3w to right 20m short of green. Texas on was long but made the putt coming back for par. 4.
44 ots and my best effort on the front 9 from the Blue Tees. Omly bad hole was 8.

Hole 10. Par 5 500m
Weak drive up left and topped 2nd. Good 3rd but right. 4th left me 60m pitch which I stuck to about 8ft above the pin. Missed bogey putt for a 7.
Hole 11. Par 3 161m. Pin was way up the back. 5w of forgiveness to just above pin 360cm from hole. Best tee shot of the day. Missed birdie putt but made par. 3.
Hole 12. Par 4 385m. Tried hitting driver with the same set up I used off the tee for 12.
Brain shart as I skied it and then instead of hitting back out to the fairway put my 2nd into the fairway bunker left. Sharted it twice and then put my 5th over the back. Pitch on short but made a good 2 putt for an 8.
Hole 13. Par 4 360m
Smoke driver left onto rough of adjacent fairway (14th). Good lie and hit 5w right. 60m pitch up and over bunker to 6ft. Missed par putt for a bogey 5.
Hole 14 Par 4 380m. Wild scoop drive off the middle to the front of gold tees on the 17th. Good 5w back on to fairway. 7w of goodness too good to back of green. Putt off green too hot and another double bogey. 6.
Hole 15 Par 4 320m.
Drive up right and in rough. Good 5w again to just off green pin high. Texas wedge, then missed par putt bogey 5.
16th hole Par 3 155 to middle pin.
Pure 7w to 12 ft. 2 putt par. 3
17th Par 5 490m
Drive right but not too bad. Good 5w out of rough and another one to leave me a 45m pitch to a back pin. Chunked it bad then texas long. Missed bogey putt but made 7.
18th Par 4. 380m.
Good drive up the middle left me 190m down hill to a front pin. Hit my best approach of the day. 5w of gorgeousness to leave a 15 ft birdie putt. On line the entire way until it stopped right on the lip. Tap in par for 4.

48 ots was ok considering I had and 8 and 2 doubles.
Concentration lapse on the 12th when I for some reason thought my set up for my 5w would work for driver as well. Really lucky I didn't end up with a worse score on that hole. Those type of brain fades used to lead to meltdowns and implosions.
So at least that part of my game has improved.
Score wise I'm pretty stoked to shoot 92 off The Blue tees.
Hopefully I can bring some of this to the BHCCI next week.
Flag should be around 17 for this so I will come in maybe a shot or 2?
Tip of the week. Swing your swing and don't forget to enjoy yourself.
