Launching June 10 for those that like the driver but hate the white colour
When an all-black TaylorMade R1 driver first showed up on the USGA's Conforming Driver List at the end of April, TaylorMade officials were quick to squash the rumors surrounding the mystery club. What was known at the time was that driver was a smaller-headed 400 cc, left-handed R1 prototype that, according to TaylorMade Public Relations Manager Dave Cordero, wasn't coming to retail. While the 400 cc prototype fell short of making it to retail, TaylorMade announced on Thursday that an all-black 460 cc R1 model would debut next week on the PGA TOUR at the FedEx St. Jude Classic in Memphis, before hitting retail shelves on June 10. The new model will also mark the first time since 2010 that the company has produced a driver with a black crown.

“For three years we have only made white drivers and have heard from a number of golfers who just prefer the look of black,” said President and CEO, Mark King. “Our commitment has always been to provide golfers with the best performing golf equipment. The R1 Black gives players who prefer that color access to our industry leading technology.” Like the white R1, the all-black version will have the same adjustability features -- 12 loft-sleeve settings, 7 face-angle position, and two moveable shot-shape weights -- as well as an ultra-light Aldila RIP Phenom shaft.

Wow... when a black driver is "new " colour in golf, I'm a little out of touch with trends...

There will only be 150 in Australia, all through Drummond exclusively. I'd expect them to sell very quickly.

Too bad it still has that stupid adjuster on the bottom, replace that with flat black with just the logos, with this black finishing and it might then actually be the best looking driver around. Too bad they did go with a 400cc model as well since it would be so tempting, and I do not Taylormade. Amazing this is limited addition, colour should be standard, I bet it will be with their next model. Lacklustre sales much?

Yeah, that's super glossy. Interesting they didn't go matte seeing as they did the white to reduce glare (and stand out from every other brand).

Love it, but I also love my white one. Don't care what people say it's a top driver, I'm hitting way better than I ever have before.

Really ........ TM going back to black, now that they've just driven a huge amount of golfers into going white? I reckon TM have well and truly hit the wall. They have obviously reached the point where there is no more they can possibly do with a driver, aside from just change the colour of them. Perhaps next they will go back to a "non adjustable" driver as the latest and greatest ........ seeing as "retro" appears to be in with them. Heaven forbid if they actually cut a foot off their overly long shafts, or put a decent bit of backbone into their "made for" shafts. Instead, let's just spray a white one with some of that left over paint in the warehouse from years ago ..... and tell em its the latest and greatest, and guys will flock to it in their droves.

Lot of hate out there for TM. I'm not a big TM fan myself, and they do go pretty hard on the marketing - but if you believe what you read then you deserve to potentially get suckered. They're not saying this is a new or improved driver - hell, they've literally said they're only bringing it out for golfers who shied away from the original R1 due to not liking the white. I've no problem aesthetically with the white head, but the black looks better. Look at how sexy the red looks against the black. I understand why people slam TM, but that doesn't mean they don't make solid clubs - just look at the RBZ 3-woods...

I play the R1 with an AD BB shaft & couldn't be happier. I don't agree with the crap TM go on with in regards to marketing & bringing out a new model so bloody often but in my opinion they make some great equipment. Like I mentioned earlier I play the R1, I also have a Stage 2 3 wood & original RBZ 5 wood & they are sensational. I know plenty of people aren't a fan of the R1 graphics but I truly don't notice them when I'm swinging, smash enough balls long & up the middle & they won't bother you either.

Guys quick question,

I want a to buy a new shaft for my R1 that is more flexible than the stock shaft. Could you guys recommend anything for me? willing to spend $100 and under. I just find the stock shaft too stiff to be honest even though it is a Regular.

Cheers..
