Just wanted to add that i had this slip of a 13 yo boy in my group today. Played off 21, and only playing the game for 11months. Consistently outdrove me by 30-50m. Rock solid iron game. Reckon he will be off low teens before june. Really drove home to me the importance of timing and smootheness.

Getting outdriven by this little runt forced me to review the short-comings in my own game.

Not that I am chasing distance per se, who can really turn up their nose at some extra length off the tee, just giving me the chance to hit a short iron in for my second shot would be a great position to be in.

The new irons have given me new found confidence, and think that now have it in me to get to low teens. This is something that i havent felt in about 5 years.

Distance is nice
Accuracy is often better
Not having 40+ putts a round is better still.
Low teens is easily within your reach mate, and it may not even require huge gains off the tee.

Lol. The reminder was to swing within myself and play within my strengths and limitations. I now believe I can shoot to low teens with my current game.

Ive recently came to the realisation that I subconsciously try to chase the bigger hitters off the tee. This usually results in pretty average results as my swing falls out of sync chasing power.

Short game improvement will get me to drop further. Just need some time to consolidare my current position and get to familiar qith my iron distances.

Do you reckon Sammi managed to get a few inches inside of him at any point during the round?

No chance. An inch maybe, but a few inches is more heat than what I am packing.

OK - playing off my lowest GA of 13.1 - meant playing off 15 at Southern yesterday.  This would be my 3rd round where I am playing without having the benefit of a "stroke" on 3 holes and have found that I have pressured myself into messing those holes up more often than not.

If I am going to continue this improvement in my handicap, then I am going to have to get used to the mindset of not having strokes on the higher index holes and not try too hard off the tee, which has inevitably landed me in trouble.

Played Par at Southern yesterday with Muzz, Mouldy and Muzz's mate Andrew.  Cold morning and I arrived immediately after a sunshower and greeted with blue skies.

Started the day with a birdie on the 10th Hole at Southern - minted a 4 hy from 175m out to about 6 foot, was suitably chuffed and quite impressed with myself.

Summarily followed up on the 11th (which I dont get a shot) and duck hooked my drive onto the next fairway, ball never to be found again.

It was at this point that Mouldy suggested that the weather was better than expected, and God responded with a 5min downpour that left the 12th Par with plenty of casual water to putt through. Despite hitting the green on the mid tier, I 3 putted my way to a bogey half.

Lacklustre golf continued to plague me throughout the rest of the round, turned the corner on -4 and finished the day with a -6.

Irons were off, skinnied almost every iron shot for the first 6 or 7 holes so tee to green really cost me.

Was really putting well despite the water logged greens and I remember Mouldy remarking on this on our 12th or  13th hole for the day. Yup you guessed it, 4 putted the par 3 from 8 ft, did I mention that I was nearest to pin for our group?

Challenging conditions in the clothes on/off, brollies up and down department and certainly played a role in disrupting our playing rythm for the day.

Whilst a -6 result was pretty crummy, there were definitely some positive aspects to the game that is showing promise in the long run. I have had a decent spate of flagged rounds of late so understandable that the last two have gone to shite.

Funny thing was that I parred most of the holes that I had no right in making par on, and royally stuffed the ones that were relatively easy. First time walk of Southern and quite like the place. Will be back for more.

Time to regroup and doubt that I can get a round in this weekend (Mother's day on Sunday and our club is running some foursome event on Saturday, no thanks)
