ive had the pleasure of knowing and playing most of the Melbourne sand belts and agree they are good but do you we over look alot of other good courses in Australia because of it? condition wise u cant fault most of the top sand belts but layout and design i think a few are lacking

They diffinantly lack in the looks or outlook department. No scenery, no ocean views. But they can't help that.

i agree i think there are 3 that really standout, but as for the others there all seem to be very similar in look and feel

Bushwood, what are the best courses in Australia if RM and KH are certainly not the best? Whatever you say, don't tell me Bonville or any course in Qld.

Well like I said it is all opinion based, but let me refer you to US Golf Digest rankings of the top 100 courses outside the US, I think they did a decent job and I’m sure they took a lot of time to put this together;

100 Best Courses Outside the US (this is only a handful)
1. Royal County Down (UK)
2. St Andrews Old Course (UK)
3. Muirfield (UK)
8. Carnoustie (UK)
9. New South Wales GC (Aus)
11. Kingston Heath (Aus)
14. Royal Birkdale (UK)
13. Cape Kidnappers (NZL)
20. Barnbouble Dunes (Aus)
22. Royal Melbourne West (Aus)
25. Kauri Cliffs (NZL)
57. Ellerston (Aus)
61. Royal Adelaide GC (Aus)
76. Metropolitan GC (Aus)
84. The National GC, Moonah (Aus)

In my opinion I agree that NSW GC is the best golf course in Australia. I haven’t played the Tassie courses yet so perhaps they could be the best.

NSW is a lovely course and great experience but if you put RM or KH next door on the same sort of land then they both go on top... EASILY.

Interesting order for the Aussie courses. To me, NSW has better views than RM but nothing else and I prefer RM to KH by a good margin. Barnbougle Dunes is great fun to play but the greens are a bit too tricked up for my liking. Well behind RM. Australia does pretty well to have eight courses listed.

Melbourne at 22 more realistic, can`t compare it to the top ones in Scotland and Ireland.Great bunkers but overall a shadow of Pebble Beach, St Andrews and the best courses in Ireland.

I find Kingston Heath to be fairly flat and quite boring to look out, royal Melbourne seems a little more dramatic. But I agree if they were on the coast u would be looking at some serious contenders for top 10

Royal Aberdeen only in 48th spot! Crazy stuff it should be in the top 20 for sure. Lucky to play 8 on that list & RA is the best of them.

To have Kawanas course as No15 shows how bogus this list is.Pros in Japan don`t even rate it in top ten in Japan.Bordering on pathetic shows how the public are blinded by these buffoons with hidden agenda`s.Ahead of Muirfield, now I am laughing.

The Scottish Open course was superb.Seaviews surpass any bunker architecture inland with no seaview.Makes you feel a part of nature not a part of suburbia.

I've played only 12 of that most recent list but would imagine that there's the top 10 or 20 that select themselves and then the rest are just throw a blanket over them and call them the next 80. What strikes me most is that I've been to a couple of places close to some of those courses and I really regret not finding a way to go and play those great courses - it was probably my once in a lifetime opportunity. eg: in the Domincan Republic for a week and didn't take the extra effort to go to the Cap Cana area. Or spent a couple of days around Amsterdam and played one round but didn't go the extra 30Kms and play at Noordwijkse.
