Nice work Gaz

Thanks Brendan.

It was nice to put a good score together, particularly after Bradleys (Chip In King's) matching efforts of a couple of days ago.

It certainly didn't stop me from hitting several bad ones today, but I guess it just shows that you don't need to hit them all perfectly in order to score okay at times ……. it can still be done with some shockers …

I tried the "expensive" AVX's in Qld, Gaz.    The first white one I used seem to not go anywhere and marked up pretty badly at Kooralbyn.   Changed balls for the rest of the round and thought that the humid conditions might have affected the distance aspect.   Ended up using a yellow one at Sanctuary Cove Pines on Friday.   Played really well with it and persisted.   Not too bad, I'm thinking.   I'll give it another burl tomorrow at Flinders and see how they go in the different conditions.   Not sure I'll buy any more though.   ;)

Thanks Micky.

I reckon Bradley would have been more than happy to see any of my last 3 birdie attempts drop, it just wasn't to be however. Not to worry, plenty more opportunities ahead to try and do better, for both of us.

And Bradley himself played pretty well despite having the new, and tiny clubs in his bag. We might have to tinker with them at some stage just to fine tune them, but he is off to a good start with them . so fun times ahead I reckon.  ;)

Yeah interesting times up at Beacy Snappy,  the old brigade are coming into their own a bit at the moment with the run now on the course, combined with sandy greens, which stops their low flying approach shots.

The greens at the moment certainly take a bit of finesse out of the putting which suits a lot of people, whereas the run on the course adds a bit of distance to any low shots with the longer clubs.

The approach shots and putting difficulty should go up a bit soon though (once the greens are back to fast)  so the scoring won't quite be the same I reckon for a lot of the members. ;)

Update time from today's Stroke comp up at Beacy.

Cold and a bit damp early on today, and the opening 2 holes were quite rusty ….. bogey, bogey.

The greens are coming back to something resembling normal after their sanding, but with overnight rain they were variable in speed once again. In general though they didn't quite play as quickly as they looked.

After a couple of opening holes I got on the par train for a couple before slipping in another bogey. I rounded out the front half with more pars, to be 3 over after 9.

The putts though, just showed no sign of dropping. I missed some left, some right, a couple short and some long.

A couple of solid pars to open the account on the back half before I had a double bogey on the 12th, with some terrible short putting (3 putts).

Later on I bogeyed 15 after a terrible tee shot, and got another bogey on the par 4, 18th after being 110 out after my tee shot.

So ……. 5 bogeys and a double ….. for a 7 over 78 this morning.

T'was not a birdie in sight, and I had more than a few attempts, (3,4,5,6,7,and on 8) on the front half … which got slightly more frustrating the longer the round wore on.

I do tend to get that way (frustrated) when the birdies just won't drop though, because I know I need a couple to make up for some of the bad shots that inevitably will happen during any round of mine

I didn't feel like I hit the ball very well today, as the cold air this morning made the swing feel a bit rusty early on, and just a bit off at times, so the score probably was a true indicator of the round today.

Not to worry, it was nice out there this morning, despite the chilly air and the need to don the rain gear and unfurl the umbrella a couple of times.

Next round is the OOM on Sunday morn over at Gardiners Run, (wherever that is), so I'd best do a bit of tweaking to the clubs and gear prior to that.... ;)

Update time from today's OOM stableford round over at Gardiners Run.

I was trying to think if I'd ever played the course before, and couldn't recall it ..... but when I got there I saw the 18th green and knew I'd played it. (It was the only hole that did jog a memory).

Anyway, we were due to start on the 18th which was good, but that got changed pre round to hole 14, so I was at the mercy of my gps to find our tee somewhere out in the scrub.

We got there eventually, and I reckon I hit my driver out of the middle (that was to be only 1 of 2 all day).

I saved my other good drive for 5 hours later on our last hole the 13th.

From memory I started reasonably solidly, but without any real good shots, (I did pussie a few approach shots early on, I do recall that much) but the game was just ticking along.

No putts of note were being sunk however (I really need to get a new putter) and that was costing me on a few "half chances" for birdie.

At the halfway mark I would have been on about 18 or 19 points (its hard to tell when you start halfway thru a nine), but I'd had a wipe somewhere along the way (It may have been the 2nd hole, not sure).

I can't even remember how I wiped it, only that I put a line through the scorecard.

So the steady play continued, and I wasted a couple of good chances, in particular 3 putting my way to a par on a par 5, when my eagle putt actually slid over the side of the cup. (I'm still to meet a par 5 that I don't like).

On our last hole (13th)  I hit my 2nd solid drive for the day, then hit a half LW to about 12 feet and sank the putt for birdie …

I hate how the game taunts you like that. It gives you nothing all freakin day, until the very last hole, and then it feels sorry for you and gives you consolation birdie … biatch !!!

So in the end it was 39 points with a wipe and a 1 pointer someplace else, or a 76 off the stick (for those interested in real golf.)

I missed out on balls down the line, and missed out on balls up the line, so midtable mediocrity, I'm here !!

I had fun though and a few laughs and it was a perfect day for golf, so all is good ………. aside from feeling just a tad sorry for Frank. (The monkey on his back has now grown into a silverback) …  :D

Next golfing for me, will be midweek Thursday back up at the home of the sloping lie ….  :)

Update time once again from the hills of Beacy. T'was Thursday stableford comp, or as it's known locally, "the old boys day out".

Those with a seniors card tee off first on Thursday so we waited until the geriatrics had hit off before making our way to the tee. It was a fairly rusty start to the day, but a couple of pars were marked on the scorecard.

Had my first 3 putt on the green of 3, a couple more pars, and then I hopped on the bogey train to round out the front half in 6 over par. It was pretty crappy golf all around, scrappy off the tee, poor approach shots, chips nowhere near the hole, and short putts not going in the hole.

Coffee and dart time, and back into it.

Bogeyed both 10 and 12, before a solid par and birdie, but gave a shot back on the very next hole with yet more lax short putting. I did manage a couple of solid pars, and once again, birdied my last hole for the day, biatch.

I just managed to scrape around under 80 … but didn't really deserve to I reckon. (34 points today)

My last 6 rounds have all been in the 70's but to compare them, they pretty much cover all spectrums of golf. I've had a couple of good putts drop, and stroked some decent lag putts. I've not had many good chips though, so that is something I really need to work on (at some stage).

My approach shots have been average in general, and I've not really given myself too many gettable birdie putts .. most have been "half chances" at best ….. so a more consistent alignment and swing is required there.

My driving has been a bit erratic of late, possibly self inflicted though, by my continual tinkering with the settings on the old Titleist. (Why have an adjustable driver if you aren't going to adjust it???)

I really should stop doing that, and just get used to the one setting, as its not really doing me any favours. The thing is, I can dial a setting in at work on the simulator for launch angle and spin rate etc, and dial in the dispersion, but I go out on course the next day, and its just not there .... hence more tinkering.

That's what happens when your swing is just too variable from day to day, so you end up chasing your tail.

Perhaps I might just put some superglue on the adjustment screw and be done with it once and for all ……

So, a slightly disappointing round today, which is usually a sign for me to swap at least 13 clubs out of the bag, but I'll restrain myself this time.

I might just look for a new putter, although the one I have my eye on at work  doesn't come in a leftie version unfortunately, otherwise it would be in the bag already.

It's the Rife Switchback XL, a really nice looking and feeling face balanced putter with a heavy weighting to it. If the pricks made it in a leftie version I'd be all over it.

There may well be a full bag change in the near future, so anything could be in my bag in the next month or two so I'm not overly worried about it for now…  ;)

Next golfing exploits will be Sunday's Soiree …….  :D
