You need to get those birdie putts closer than 82m

I believe your 100% correct there Micky.

I have hit some shocking irons off the tee of late, perhaps its the fact its sitting on a tee, or perhaps I just don't play them that touch forward in the stance (to allow for the tee) … but it's certainly annoying.

Something I need to focus on I reckon, and perhaps a focussed practice swing of two may be of benefit in preparation for the actual tee shot...…  ;)

Update time from Sunday's Par comp . and wow, was it bad.

Driver and putter mostly okay ... irons and wedges were just absolute rubbish.

I had plenty of shots from the fairways which were well and truly butchered by all manner of foul cruelty.

There were slices, fades, draws and hooks and even the odd straight one, (when a curved ball was intended).

I simply couldn't hit a green to save myself, and so ...... the irons and wedges are now out of the bag.

As for the score it was  -6 for the day ….. and a truly shiteful exhibition of golfing, which hasn't been seen for a good long while (thankfully).

My actual swing felt okay (without being in the groove) ….. but it was a lot of operator error, a lot of movement over the ball during the swing, and a lot of either lazy or over-active hands through the impact zone.

But ……..  the remedy is crystal clear …… do nothing, except swap over the irons and wedges for something else. (How hard can it be?)

So, it's back to the Cleveland wedges, and the Mizuno MP 32's in an effort to turn things around.

The 2010 vintage Mizuno 68's and the wedges (of the same brand), took a ride to work with me today, during which time, I managed to give them all a slight bend (they do actually bend like butter).

I had a few hits with them post adjustment, and I reckon they will be a tad more reliable now.

They will however, now serve out their sentence in the sin bin, while their older brothers the (2005 vintage MP32's) step up to the plate and get another workout on Thursday.

They are though, both on notice, (as well as a few other sets at home) .... as I may be getting a complete new set of clubs …. courtesy of work, sometime in the couple of months.

I just have to work out what clubs I want, oh, and of course, more importantly ...... what is actually available for a poor unfortunate left hander.

If only Wilson did a leftie set of their FG Tour 100 irons ….. I'd be full to overflowing in the pantal region … (as Goldy is want to say)

Time will tell though what I end up with, so I might be picking the various golf company rep's brains over the next month or so, to see if there is an old set of leftie blades tucked away in some dark corner of their warehouse.

Anyway, my next round is just two sleeps away on Thursday, and its another chance to hit some really nice ones (the eternal optimists us golfers, aren't we?)…….  :D

So, let me get this straight. You had an absolutely appalling day on the course, couldn't do anything right, and finished -6.

For most golfers describing such a round, their score would be closer to -12.

A -6 is a fairly normal day for many, many golfers.

If you've put yourself in the middle of the fairway 100m out, time and time again ..... and yet you end up with one minus after another (I think I had 3 or 4 in a row at one stage) …… I'd describe it as a pretty shiteful effort Phil.

What others think of their own -6 efforts is up to them, but for me, being so wasteful when in perfect position .... is just really annoying.

That's frightening.

I reckon I'll go the other way and try to tone it down on the approach shots, either one club more or just employ 3/4 swings to try and limit any waywardness at the top of the back swing, (which may be causing the swing path clubface issues).

Generally, my 3/4 swing shots fly pretty good, so I might see if I can add a bit more control to my game, it certainly couldn't hurt I reckon …  :D

Update time from this morning's stableford comp ... and it was a tad chilly this morning as we teed off just after the hour of seven.

Started with a solid par, bogey par, bogey, then followed with a few okay holes, and finished the front half with par and a birdie from memory.

The swing was going okay, certainly nothing to write home about, (nor the forum), but I was hanging in there.

So 20 points, and a couple over par.

Hit my best shot off the tee of 10 (it actually found the middle) whilst mid sip of a very nice cappuccino, which left me about 160 or so out near the bottom of the hill. I then butchered it a touch and into the bunker it went … no real damage, moving on to the next hole.

Then there proceeded several holes of utter shiteness once again (I reckon about 8 holes in fact), and I finished with two inglorious wipes).

On 17 ........ I'd put my driver through the dogleg and onto the side of a grassy mound about 80m out, with the ball about a foot above my feet. With LW in hand I aimed for a slight draw, and then proceeded to shank it into the trees leftward and into some real, bracken encrusted, no mans land, whereby 3 unsuccessful hacks in the undergrowth saw me finally finish the hole someplace back over near the green.

18 .. And I just played it through some unseasonal "red mist", so t'was no real wonder I suspect, that I wiped it.

So, 31 points after a half decent start, and yes, the clubs can all go and get farked back into the golfing cupboards … where they can hang their freakin heads in shame for a while.

With us lined up to play Ambrose on Saturday, I can't see that format helping my swing issues anytime soon, so the shite may continue. (Once we get one in the fairway in Ambrose, I just try to belt the living suitcase out of it and generally end up losing my swing for the day).

So, at this stage I'm not sure which clubs will be in the bag, perhaps one of the Mizuno sets, or perhaps something else, time will tell ……. I'm still waiting for the red mist to clear ….   ;)

Update time from today's Shambrose event up at Beacy.

5 under OTS, playing with Wasabi, Chip in King, and our usual fourth member, Rusty.

Had some good laughs going around, but we couldn't putt to save ourselves.

With our 5 birdie putts we also missed between us, at least 52 birdie putts (4 putts x 13 holes), and that cost us any chance of a decent score.

Tee to green we were pretty good, we just couldn't get the approach shots to tap in range.

The driver and tee shots were on song for the day which was nice. I think I got my 3 regulation drives out of the way by around the 6th hole, and finished with a couple more to my name.

We did have one member hitting his 3rd drive from the 18th tee, no pressure there, …… and we were subsequently hitting our approaches from behind a tree, but Wasabi saved the day with a nice birdie from the rear fringe of 18. (Nothing like your team members heckling you on the last tee, just to add to the pressure)

Next round is due, um, I'm not too sure, as The Beloved and I are off northward mid week for a few days, so perhaps on Friday at Thurgoona, (scene of my 1980's triumph in the Annual Jockey and Trainers Charity Golf Day)

T'was great fun this morning though, as Shambrose is just no pressure golfing, and belting the tripe out of the ball basically ……. so it suits me down to the ground I reckon ……  ;)
