I might have to invest in some winter gloves Frank.

FJ's make a decent pair, and I've had my eye on them for a week or two now at work, so I might just bite the bullet and get em I reckon.

Anything that keeps the hands and fingers warm has got to be good at this time of year.

At the moment I'm actually making use of the pro shop's pie warmer for my golf glove pre round, (while my coffee gets made) ..... but the heat in it only lasts halfway down the first fairway, and of course, only on the one hand ...  :(

Update time from today's Stableford comp round up at the home of golf.

A pair of 17 pointers ..... for 34, or 8 over.

Only one birdie today, and a lot of ordinary golf shots but still good fun.

It really shouldn't be that hard, but at times I reckon I over complicate things by trying to shape shots on the wind, rather than just playing boring golf, mainly on the approach shots.

As an example, I'll aim wide right of the green and try to gayfade one in, but the wind will carry it further leftward, and I'll miss leftward ........ instead of just playing straight to the right edge of the green and letting the wind drift it back on.

Its a work in progress though, and I did manage to hit a few nice ones on the back half when I was just hitting a few 3/4 swings under the wind.

It's something I should be doing from the start of the round though, but the brain doesn't seem to wake up early enough.

So that's golf done until Sunday now, so I've got a few days to let today's main lesson sink in (and hopefully not forget) ...  :)

Update time ..... Sunday Stableford, and it was shite, both weather wise and moreso golfing.

Made the turn with 16 points, and was ticking along okay ..... but the constant rain started to soak through to the bones along with all the golf gear.

Sprayed a few off the tee, then sprayed a few iron shots, chipping was hit r miss, and putting diabolical. By the 15th I could no longer be bothered, so I switched off and coasted back to the clubhouse. Apparently my scorecard went in for 24 points (can't remember signing it, lol), but I cared not a jot.

Had an unplanned day off work today, so I went up for a practice, and hit them a bit better ... tweaking the driver setting every few holes, and working on my "angle of attack" and hitting shapes with the irons.

The theory of the "angle of attack" and how it impacts ball flight is pretty interesting, and goes a fair way to explaining the "misses", and some resultant ball flights we see out on the course.

I won't bore you with the details, save to say, generally ...... the more you hit down on the ball with your irons, the more it will curve, fade side.

So it was a morning of varying the angle of attack on the iron shots, and then checking out the impact. I managed to hit some very nice shaped ones as a result, which will come in handy I reckon, on the longer par 3's and could well lead to a change in strategy in terms of my alignments and aiming points going forward.

I'm not about to throw the baby out with the bath water, but its definitely something for me to ponder as I stand behind my ball planning an approach shot from now on.

So, despite the crap golf of late ..... its not all bad news .......  ;)

PS.  And a quick note for good mate Dave ..... get well soon buddy !!!!

Well all is in readiness for tomorrow's comp round, with a bit of work being done off course in the lead up.

There has been a change of putter grip on the old trusty Sabertooth .......

A couple of purchases which might come in handy (FJ Wintersof Gloves in particular), and more importantly, a bit of last minute tweaking of the MP68 iron set this evening.

I just extended them a bit as that was what the data was saying when I did some investigative work in the sym and on the lie board at work recently.

Hopefully the length change should help eliminate some of my misses and allow my contact to be a bit more consistent out on course ... time will tell of course, but as usual, a comp round is the forum for my experiments and analysis.

Should be a fun morning, if the weather is at least half decent ......  :)

Update time from this morning's windswept affair at Beacy ..... and wow, it was certainly fun.

The wind was really gusting in the pre round darkness, and it just grew during the round.

I started off okay with a solid par, and then birdie, but then went bogey, double, to hand it right back again. A couple of wayward ones, and a couple of bad shot selections were the cause ... but from there is was back on the par train to round out the front half with 38 shots (2 over).

The back half post coffee started off with a short pulled tee shot into the trees, and got worse from there, wipe, and then bogey. Another crap tee shot on 12 when I pulled it hard right and out onto the 19th fairway, but hit a really nice high drawing 6 iron over the trees and curled it just enough to land it on the green of 12. Misssed the gettable birdie putt and in for par.

Hit a solid 8 iron on the 140m uphill 13th, and ended up over the back of the green . wiped that one as well when my putting let me down.

The par 5 14th was a disappointing bogey ...... not good.

Onto 15 and the 130m par 3 playing downwind saw my 52 wedge roll out past the flag, two putt par.

16 was another solid par ........ as was 17.

On 18 I pushed my 3 iron wide left to leave me no real shot . I actually shanked my approach over near the practice bunker .. got my 3rd up and on the green, and a long par saver up the hill dropped in nicely.

So ........ it was 19 on the front and a very scrambling 15 on the back half for 34 points (8 over).

The highlights ........ my iron shots were pretty good today given the length adjustment last night. My putting was ordinary, as were a few drives. I also found myself in no mans land a couple of times, around 40m out, and didn't pick the right option, pitch, lob, or bump n run . so the mental game let me down a bit there.

It wasn't easy out there though in the tough breeze, which was a tad more than a zephyr, so I was pretty happy with the round, given its been a while since playing comp.

Next game will be on Sunday at the moment, unless the work schedule changes, so I might have to do some club tweaking to my other iron sets in the meantime, as the change in length seemed to be an improvement in terms of accuracy and connection ......  :D
