I once played a round at the Serviceton Golf Club near the VIC/SA border. The sandscrapes were an interesting challenge.

Anyone have any thoughts on which courses would rate the best in country Victoria – There used to be no question in my mind with Horsham number 1 but I haven’t been back since the fires destroyed all their trees. Also lets not include the Peninsula in this discussion as I would still class that Very loosely as Melbourne.

Birdie depends “where do you want to go today” to play

East South North West so many good courses to play at very reasonable green fees and often in better condition than some of the so called prestige clubs in Melbourne.

. choice shown in bold

going East of Melbourne in country region Beacon hills (now not country)Trafalgar, Traralgon, Sale, Lakes Entrance.

SE melbourne- Gippsland:, Lang Lang, Leongatha south, Yarram, Foster. Phillip Island.

North: Hidden Valley, Kilmore, Shepparton,Murray downs cobram

Albury, Corowa,

West: Eynesbury, Ballarat, Forest Creswick, Bacchus Marsh,Trentham,
SW Torquay sands, Barwon heads.

good luck in your playing of these great courses

Probably have played more in the West then anywhere. Forgot about Eynesbury - absolute cracking course. But can't agree with you about Torquay Sands - too much development and crazy with the bunkers - not a patch on 13th Beach, Barwon Heads or Curlewis if you are down that way.

Have a look in "How did you play this week" thread.   OB and CB80 played Trafalgar yesterday.   He indicated greens were good and only patchy for the rest of the course.    He may be able to tell you about Drouin too, as he plays there occasionally.

Trafalgar is in good nick.  You would not be disappointed.  Their mid-week comp day is Friday.  There might not be anyone there otherwise.

It's been around a month since I played at Drouin.  It was a bit soggy then but should have dried well since. They have a comp on Mondays.

Warragul has a Tuesday comp.  I'm already in a four but would be happy to have a drink with you afterwards.

Langy also has a Tuesday comp.

All courses should be fine to play, unless there's a downpour the night before.  Other than tonight, no more downpours for early next week.

Cheers OB, sounds like its drouin Monday and Lang Lang Tuesday. Good weather for a week and a little sprinkle somewhere in there in tipping they will be good.

Trentham (Yeah i'm bias), Kilmore, Ballarat, South Pines, Portarlington.

south pines great course, not long, but well laid out course, all work done by vollies which in my eyes makes it even better as they really care and take pride in how its presented, well worth the visit.Trentham is one of the prettiest courses around, also worth a visit......ps..take your own coffee as theirs is pretty dear

I played Lang Lang earlier this year with 0 expectation of the course. Hadn't looked up reviews, I was just visiting a friend.

Literally blown away by its quality. Everything was flawless. Unfortunately the injury I was fighting at that time flared up to the point where I had to cut the round short, and actively looking for my next opportunity to play it again hopefully before the end of the year.

Also, I grew up in Yarram as a kid, and only went to the course once through a footy fundraising day. Too young to remember, but according to all reviews that place is brilliant and another one down that way I'm keen to give a crack!

Whether you think you can, or think you cannot, either way you're probably right...

Cheers CB, still unsure on the exact plan yet so I'll leave it be for now. Think Lang Lang defiantly will be getting a visit through.
