Like moving to a new city or new job you have to make an effort when you join a new golf club.

Remembering people's names and greeting them when you see them at the club for a start.

I was helped by knowing Koiom and Wozz from here and have met other members through them.

Not being a car park member and having a drink (incl soft or coffee) afterwards.

Being inclusive when a single joins your semi-regular group.

The big one for me was going on the golf trip to Asia with 8 guys I didn't really know. I'd played occasionally with 2 of them, the rest were just names. Now I drop myself into their groups and they are now friends and their regular groups happy to have me.

I have my semi-regular group that has evolved in my 3 years at Keysie. But that's only Wed and Fri. At the weekend or other days I just drop myself into a group. There are a small number I avoid because they're dickheads. I'm also a bit self conscious and avoid the guns. Probably silly as I played 36 holes in the same group as a scratch player in the foursomes and he's a ripper bloke.

As I stated at the start of this post you have to make an effort. It's not up to others to do the work. Have a think about your own efforts Nick.

Being handsome at a golf course can be detrimental, ladies fighting over you to play In invitation days, Mixed foursomes. Always buying you beers , hoping you drop your guard. It’s terrible.

I think an idea worth trying for clubs, to help new members fit it, would be to adjust online booking systems so that

only three spots can be booked by a person for each tee time, instead of four. Also that way on busy days, those

that often only put themselves on the timesheet, are in no danger of missing out on a game because of automatic groups

of four.

Best thing about our club is the saturday members bet 20c with everyone.

When you've played your round you go into the bar and go to every table and ask whay score everyone had. If they beat you you give then 20c and visa versa.

Best way for new members to meet everyone and get involved in the social aspect of being a club member.

If you're one of those people that just play and leave straight after then its pretty much your fault that you dont feel at home, imo.

We have dedicated groups for single bookings only for this purpose.

When I joined royal park it was just a random draw every week. Worked very well for the most part.
Pretty small member base 40-50 players each Sunday so after 10 rounds you would have usually played at least 2 times with over half the members.

How many stay back on Saturday? Would you get tired of giving me your 20c every week?
Who I kidding I would not play every week :D

Most have a drink before leaving, field is split into morning and arvo tee times so you dont pay everyone.
Youd be lucky to break 30 at southern most of the time so i doubt youd be taking my money very ofen.
