I remember playing there about 25 years ago. The one thing I remember is a tee shot where a good hitter had the option off hitting over the bridge, and my partner did that. If I remember right. Was this only the case for a short while between bridge build and course redesign?

What can possibly go wrong?

Never was an option, but lots of Members were guilty of hitting pop fly drives that either landed on the bridge, or sometimes carried over. The tees on both holes that played under the bridge, 12 and 17, were really quite close to it. Balls that landed on the bridge would fall through the drainage scuppers usually back on the fairway. There was a local rule applied for shots that hit it.

Norman deliberately hit a 5 iron over a section of the bridge before it was completed. He did 'cheat' by teeing it up on the side of the ladies' 17th tee to gain more elevation.

You can hit it over both bridges from the ladies 5th tee. Allegedly.

His coach at the time was on triple M recently talking about it.
He apparently intentionally hit 3 under it and 3 over it.
£1000 on Spieth to win all 4 majors this year.
Had to get it in UK, none in Oz.

Millionaire or a grand down ?

Place your bets !

Possible, but not real bright! Think of the consequences if you 'fun' shot causes a major accident.....

The second bridge was under construction at the time.

Allegedly.

Not really. Neither of us hit it over the middle, much higher section of the bridge. It was the downhill section near the current machinery shed.

I'm yet to play the course on Hamilton Island (or is it Dent Island?). Anyone who has played it, is the course actually great or is it just a case of fantastic views afforded by every shot?

I also understand that Brookwater is currently renovating their greens over the course of a few years. I haven't seen plans for what they plan on doing, does anyone know? Are there trying to increase the size of the putting surfaces as they are quite small or are they trying to soften some of the dramatic slopes?

I also think they could benefit with removing some of the trees that are close to the greens which I think would help year round conditioning, but especially in winter when they tended to get a bit too much shade.

I've only played it the once. It's a very good course but to be honest it's hard to focus in your first round that much on the course itself as the views and the setting are so incredible.

But there are plenty of interesting and hallengung holes. Ones that come to mind are a par 4 from the top of the hill with a number of tee options laid out before you, and a par 3 over a huge gully to what amounts to an island green but in an island of bush.

The driving areas are reasonably generous but once you're off them the ball is most likely gone. They mark them all as hazards though so you don't have to worry about endless provisionals.

I'd summarise by saying that it is a very good course and may be great but I'd have to play it a few times - which is an expensive proposition.

But there can be no doubt that the experience is great.
