Most would think it is a long story.. It isn't.

Just a simple story of requited love?

More of the same at a Indooroopilly Presidents yesterday. Course was tough with very fast greens and 3rd place made 33 points - but 1 and 2 had impressive 41s.

13 over 49 on the front for 12 points
10 over 46 in the back for 14 points
23 over 95 for 26 points in total

Forgot the card so don’t have stats but only 5 pars and again my tee game cost me with 3 dropped shots from driver and 2 from hybrids and 1 with an iron. Played the par 3s pretty well - 1 over I think - so 3/5 pars on the 3s.

My lack of any confidence with my lob wedge for pitching is costing me heaps as once I’m inside 80m I am trying to use my 50 degree and it’s not working. But the blades still cause too much fear.

Short game also cost me heaps of shots - 10 from not getting up and down and then another 4 from 3 putts and a miss from a foot (reaching over from the other side to not mark it and keep play moving - such is life). Can’t remember hitting any bad shots like a duff or a blade but touch wasn’t good enough on what are very slopey greens, and frankly I putted terribly so even chips that were within 6ft didn’t get dropped. Putter was cold as ice.

Thinking back over the round
1 triple after 7i off the toe stayed luckily dry but went too hard with chip off the downslope over water into bunker behind and that came out too long and 3 putts later was an 8 after the first putt (a Texas) was a little long and broke further left than I read
2 bogie after just missing green with SW and a good chip up the steep bank was still too long and 2 putts
3 par after a perfect 260+m drive and LW and just missed the birdie putt from 8ft
4 par after 8i came up short but on off the tee and very good 2 putts from 50+ft
5 bogie by not getting up and down - drive was a hook but ok and kept my approach left to avoid the bunkers. Pretty good chip but wasn’t holing it from 5ft the way I putted
6 6i off the tee was just left of where I aimed but left me with feet well above the ball and I pulled 9i into the shortsided bunker (allowed for it to go right but it didn’t), then a bit thin from the sand then wussed the LW chip back and 3 putted for a triple
7 rubbish 3h off the tee meant I used the nail out area right of the green. 7i went over 170m to leave me behind a bunker and with water everywhere behind the pin I chose to putt out left of the pin but wussed that they 3 putted for a 6. Crapola
8 pushes PW well right and 8i chip stopped fast so 2 putts for bogie
9 hooked 4h off the tee and left me with a bush affecting my backswing. Got out ok and then my 8i layup that was intended to be to about 80 took off and finished me 50m out where I wussed a gap wedge pitch and 3 putted for a double.
10 decided to take on the 225m par 4 and drew my mini driver into the treee left. 5i punch under the trees was fine but the Texas just rolled and rolled and didn’t make the 8ft putt back so bogie.
11 pushed driver into trees but 5i punch left me green side. Think I got it up and down with a Texas.
12 just pushed the driver and clipped a tree and found a spot nestled with a bush. Chip out seemed perfect until it hit a stick in the rough and bounced back and left me with trees to go under. Punch shot stopped in the thick grass but SW approach was good leaving a simple up and down Texas but missed the 1ft down.
13 5i right into trees (this is a hole that doesn’t give a draw option off the tee at all - there is a huge pine covering the whole of the right side of the fairway). Punch out was ok and 9i approach was too. 2 putt bogie.
14 9i push was fine because it hits the bank and bounces down to the green. Only good putt to drop all day after my first went 12ft past. Par
15 Pushed driver but found it, but attempted punch found trees. Still came out fine and had SW in which I managed to hit short and 3 putt for a double.
16 8i came up just short but regulation Texas up and down for par.
17 tried to hit a fade with driver but drew it into the trees. Punch out was ok leaving a 60m pitch in from thick rough but the rough won and it didn’t go far. 8i chip was way too short and Texas and 2 meant triple and wipe.
18 Drive was ok 235 or so but hooked my 4h well left. Really happy with the AW chip back across a hill and a path to just short of the green and what should have been a simple up and down bobbled over some repaired edges and missed the 4 footer for par so bogie.

Burleigh next week which is also a challenging course so need to lift my game. It’s not as tough on the putting game as Indro though that’s for sure. So hopefully that will be better.

Chipping and putting green gets installed today and maybe tomorrow so I’ll be able to practice at least! I need it.

you pretty much summed it up in the first six words of your fourth paragraph.

your suckiness is directly related to your mind and confidence at the minute. Pound for Pound you are one of the best drivers I have seen and I have seen you stiff it time and time again with any iron in your hand.

so, just do that again

it was your driving that convinced me that I needed to get rid of the beetle when you were tagging it past me.

the short game level you need is simply consistency, it's already there, you just need to believe in it, trust it and repeat it

I am still a bigger human than you so I should be way longer than you.

It's an oft expectation that causes let downs

Chopping mate - big time chopping!

Long game is a bit off and short game isn’t close to being able to pick up the pieces by a margin

Just leaking shots very regularly so can’t put a good score together

Frustrating mate, very frustrating
