It always seems impossible until it's done.

Apart from the first 2 and last 3 holes I tripled 8 with a pushed wet tee shot followed by a punch that crossed the fairway and ended under trees about 30m short of the green. Looking back I should have gone hard on the first chip out of the trees, took the thick wet rough out of the equation and dealt with a long putt or chip back, but I tried to get one bounce through the rough and didn’t. Second chip after that was a bit soft and didn’t get it down. That was a triple.

The rough at Windaroo was brutal yesterday - super thick and wet. Full shots were tough, chipping tougher. Although it did allow for bunker like tactics. My wedge shots over the back were hard to recover from because it was all rough to the green then the ball was rubbing long on the very fast greens. I don’t think I hit a single bad chip but my tough wasn’t good enough through or over the rough.

Had 8 pars in yesterday’s round and 4 bogies and 1 triple from 3 to 15 - 7 over for 13 holes which is good, especially including a triple. Even in that I had:
Thin 6i tee on 7 that was lucky to clear the water
Hooked 4h on 9 off the tee
Topped drive on 10
Thin drive on 13

Lots of room for improvement

For my short game I putted well - very happy with that and saved a few shots there. Chipping I had 6/19 up and downs but I only scored myself 5 dropped shots because mostly it was the approach shot putting me in a position of needing a miracle. My fear of the thin lob though probably cost me a few shots as I took the lower option and the rough and surrounds bit back hard. But I also made some good up and downs with an 8i chip and run so it was a mixed bag.

I got 4th best score on the day out of 11 of us so it shows it was a tough day. Need to sort out the thin tee shots and wedges at the range!

He writes them in word and then edits them in Publisher prior to publication. It’s easier to index and get the chapters right.
