I'd have to smash it or club up to make most of mine go that far :(

That's quite an unusual strategy Col

Where did the 80m approach originate?

5 shots to reach a par5 seems like a good strategy

From our club champion, theory is Helps to turn through the shot. Obviously you hit the ball a bit further than 80 metres.

Yep - i particularly recall a pitch in from about 30m up from well below the green that you caught beautifully and knocked it up to about 8 feet - was a very good shot

I think the thing we forget about in this game ....... is that there are more than a few different swings we need to perform during a round of golf ........ and getting them all correct at the specific point in time where we need them ......... is nigh on impossible for 99.9% of us.

The driver swing is different in that we need to hit it on the upswing.

With fairway woods we need to hit them with only a slightly descending strike .....

Irons we need to have a steeper descending blow,....

Wedges, chipping, bunkers, again, all sorts of variations are required depending on the shot at hand.

Being able to perform 5, 6, or 7 different combinations and have them all in the groove on any given day, is no doubt beyond us all . hence "our driver is good one day, but our irons are rubbish", etc, is pretty much standard fare for us at our level.

Genuine questions, I'm wanting to learn...

I thought the swing variation as to strike on upswing, or decent, changed through, or by way of, the ball position at address? i.e. Ball position more forward for Driver, so the strike is on the upswing, etc..

And, other than pitching and chipping with less than a full swing, the mechanics are the same for all swings?

I understand that the swing plane changes, becoming more upright as the loft of the club increases (and for standard clubs the shaft length decreases), but other than that the swing mechanics are essentially the same for full swings. How you swing, power, release, etc. are the same for all full swings, just on a changing path due to the length of the club in your hand.

No?

Catagorically no!

11 points on the first - back - nine. The greens were terrible. They've been cross cut and sanded and the cuts are deep! There are diamond shaped pieces of grass - sometimes - and channels of sand between. The ball was bumping everywhere and it was hard to judge anything.

They weren't even slow mostly so you couldn't sort of run them hard at the hole or you'd finish 5 foot past. And 5 footers were not gimmes that's for sure.

I putted well on the second nine after getting more used to it, but chipping was very tough as the ball would land in sand and die or land on grass and run. Made it interesting.

18 on the back was better. Was a bit unlucky at times and they must have run out of red flags as they used a yellow "back of green" flag on 17 for a flag that was right up front. Meant i left myself in the crap when I played for the back flag.

So 29. Only three GIR. That was disappointing. The full swing was a bit off today.

Pacific Harbour next week will require much better play.

Be thankful you got a round in - if you were in Victoria they would have called it off due to heat!

Pity about the condition of the greens, but at least you got around before the wind hit. The fan was well and truly on at The Flats today.

Personally, I've decided that instead of playing better, I'm just going to go with the flow of lots more handicap shots! :D

Really hot out there Weeti today. I was dizzy a couple of times from the heat which resulted in me misjudging distance a couple of times and hitting up on your group. Through the shimmering heat haze I was sure you were out of range.
