Its an old forgotten and remade video, but it was Dean Reinmuth that taught Phil how to play the game, what most don’t know is that Dean was a great player is his own right and could hit all these shots himself. When this video was shot, Phil had just come out of my junior golf program in San Diego and began his journey to entertain the world, what a show its been.

What ever gave him the IDEA that he could hit a ball out of the rough off an overhanging lie and get the ball to go backwards over his head and somehow land on the green, let alone near the pin. Amazing!!

I remember hearing mark allen on SEN, talking about some pro’s (him included), have a putt the call a “cut putt” it’s used on very quick, hard, dry greens where it’s downhill and downwind. Used for shorter putts. He quoted he used it in the vicopen at victoria GC one year…... it was used to get the ball moving but (not instantly rolling end over end)

Ill use a cut putt on downhill sideways fast greens. Really need to know speed of your greens to get cut perfect to hole.

I was taught to hit ball more with the toe of the putter, as it deadens the bounce off the face when hitting fast downhill putts.

That would be a ‘fun’ shot to play in a match play against your opponent. Imagine the look on their face if you pulled it off like Phil did? Priceless.
