Tips for lessons

So I’ve had enough of hacking around the course 10 times a year and have decided 2013 is the year I’m going to really work on consistent play and lessons to improve. I am hoping to start lessons with Andrew Mowatt at royal fremantle here in perth in the next couple of weeks. He is just round the corner from me and has a good rep. I would like to know if there are any questions i should ask or things I should prepare for with the lessons? Am I real novice so just want to go in with the right mindset and make the teachers job as easy as possible!

Start by putting Then chipping Then progress to wedge play – irons Then driver … Get a lesson and get fitted for clubs Enjoy the game!
Golf is only a game…Yeah right who are you kidding? |

Learn from my mistakes and save yourself decades of frustration. Ask him to explain, in detail, how to pivot so you don’t come “over the top”. best of luck

Go in with an open mind and be prepared to take little steps to improvement. You might feel like you are going backwards at times but if you are relearning how to hit the ball the steps backward will move forward and it might be one step back and two forward. Don’t expect miracles and in 12 months you should see the improvements in your game.

What are playing lessons like?
Too much slow play means that golf has a wait problem |

Mekat, I had my first playing lesson last week and it was the best lesson I have ever had with my coach. You can stand there and hit shot after shot for 30-60min and think everything is going well as the repatition is masking some of the problems. With a playing lesson, the coach can see how you switch on and off between shots and they can see where the problems lie a little easier, plus you learn to play whats in front of you rather than a few shots/holes in front of you. This is what I found anyway, it may vary from person to person.

Id like him to show some interest and respect for yr committment to practice and in yr progress. Kiwi is correct (would you doubt it:-))find out his expectations so you know your path. Good luck!

boardrider, just do your best to carry out the actions your coach describes. Often, they might seem awkward and perhaps uncomfortable. That’s because that movement might be ‘foreign’ to you. I find it helpful to know why a particular action should be taken – it helps overcome any scepticism I may have about doing that action.

Thanks for all the advice. I guess the overarching theme is just make sure you get along with the bloke, don’t over think things, and follow the advice your paying him for ie. let him do his job! Really looking forward to having a bit of direction with my golf, I think I will enjoy playing and practicing that much more when I have a bit more of a defined ‘plan’ in place
