Ball choice for a mid hanicapper

Hi All,
Ben playing golf for about 4-5 years now. Play in 80’s these days.
For the last year or so I have been playing used AAA grade balls. I bought 2 batches, an assortment of Titleists (ProVs, NXTs, DT SoLos) and a few Srixons. I paid like 40 cents a ball for these, so I don’t mind if they discolor quickly, that’s of course if I don’t lose it before that happens :-)
I looked up the forums and turns out that most of these are suited to a mid-handicapper like me. Say the NXTs, DTSoLos, ZStar etc.
Given the variance in my game I’m not sure if I am even at a stage where I can pick a particular ball that suits me.
Tips, advice, comments please….

There are numerous threads on balls on this site. My one tip would be not to believe what the advertising says, you never know until you hit them. I know a 5 handicapper who uses a distance ball that just suits his game.

I think it comes down to personal preference in terms of feel and performance. Im a mid capper, generally i like a medium pill, as in not too soft or too hard… Bridgy E6 , titleist NXT or velocity good examples. During summer with greens firmer and playing from a number of elevated posis i favour a soft ball. Srixon soft i like

krish,

I think it helps a bit to play one type of ball.

Distance control and short game feel, IMO, are harder to develop if you switch ball types at random.

I think the type of ball is less important than just getting used to one type so, all things being equal, I suggest you start at the lower price points but in a decent range like Titleist or Srixon not some unknown brand budget rock.

Fan of:
Stan Utley putting and short game
TGM hitting, as explained by Peter Croker / Paul Hart, Lynn Blake.
New ball flight rules
Zen golf
Rory McIlroy, I.K.Kim swings
Fast play, Stableford scoring, windy conditions

A mid-capper should be using a mid range ball, generally speaking.
No point in using ProV1 or ‘tour’ ball. Probably insufficient feel in a ‘distance’ ball.

Find one that you like and keep playing those, until you find a ‘better’ ball.

its such a loaded question
the ball depends on if you can shape it,
depends on the type of game you have, long or short
the type of course too
windy exposed links,
tree lined,
what type of grass on fairways etc
so it is not a simple as “play a better ball”

any one else heading home to get married??

The only thing I’d suggest is looking at the yellow ones. They’re easier to track in flight and also to find on wayward shots.
Vision, Srixon, Titleist, Bridgestone and I’m sure a few other brands have yellow available.
