The VR Covert tour has the adjustability. Time will tell which way I go. Just a little extra incentive.
Did you play a 5 wood before the AMP?

Yeah mate had an old 90s Brosnan Stainless 5w with a Bubble shaft.

Even the manufactures could not tell me what the flex was haha, I bought it years ago off Ebay with a 3w to match.

I like the fact that now I have a matched set, Driver, 3-4 wood and 2-3 Hybrid.

It’s the first time ever I have owned brand spanking new woods…. I have always had Traded, Demo or used woods in the bag.

I have Nike throughout (second hand) Yes putter (new from squizzys so cheap) and the only ‘new’ thing is Bubba driver I won.
Want to maybe treat myself….or could check some stores on a trip later this year ;)

Comp today
31 points and tenth place at time of completion (will probably change) had 14 on the front and 17 on the back. Mainly due to firing on the last three holes (3/3, 6/2,4/4)
Putting is good ATM and short game acceptable. Long game is still mediocre.
Silly thing is I got to use the new driving range with a ‘warm up’ bucket and everything was pretty. Finished with some drives and they were even acceptable.
Time to relook at the gameplan.
I’m hitting more greens aiming for the centre and not the flag and my putting then finishes off. I can see where I’m currently wasting shots and basically it’s from not hitting the short stuff.

Tenth place changed to 31st :/
Round got flagged but no hcp change. The fact it was flagged has slightly boost the spirits.
I feel my biggest weakness at present is ego dictating the shot. Homework for next round….strategy.

That short stuff makes a huge difference especially when you have one of those days when every tree seems to be in your way….

Played a non comp 18 today. Has been awhile and gave me opportunity to keep some stats. I also reverted to a game plan. This actually meant my longest club was a 5 wood. I also made note of the clubs I used and except for two shots I was using my ‘speed golf’ setup.
If it was stableford I’d had 31 points. Just like my last round.
Stats:
Score 98
Fairway 50%
Sand 1
Penalty 1
Putts 36

Now the fairway is better than I thought. I hit one fairway only on the front and 86 on the back. There’s one big problem.
Putts aren’t bad but there was 4×3 putts which is disgraceful.
Was happy with the bunker shot as the board said they were out of play for comp.(should give a idea of their condition)
Ball striking was relatively good. A few unfortunate positions. Like on the fairway but 5 m too forward to play over trees in line.
This I think was due to some uncertainty on distances. Mainly 5 wood. Took a shot off first cut of rough and got it clean so my expected 180 went 190. Can’t complain as it was a sweet shot. Helped me decide better club selection to keep out of harms way.
Very educational round. Maybe more needed.

It’s great to have a round like that just sorting a few things out and relaxing….

I have a week off after next week and I think I will be doing something similar…

Looked at the booking sheet and my regular partner, who’s off 10 and myself off 22 will be joined by a 8 & 7 hcp. I’m looking forward to it as often these guys play smarter more so than better. Might learn something :)

AB they often pick up small things that others may not in your swing.

Worth while sharing a beer and chat with them after the round.

AB, I always find I learn something from the low markers. As long as you pick the right one, it’s always an enjoyable experience.

Probably the one thing that is obvious while playing with low markers is their strategy in playing longer holes, as well as playing around hazards, rarely do they take a risk, thus preventing blow outs in their score.

Remember when golf was fun?

Sometimes I think I forget. Too bogged down in this technique and that plan etc. Dont get me wrong I still love the game but sometimes I think I take it too serious.
Tomorrow, no expectations except to have fun :)

Once it becomes not fun, then why are you doing it?

Probably wording it wrong JL. It’s still ‘fun’ I was just reflecting on the fact that keeping stats etc were once things I never bothered with and may have been causing a more serious attitude.

Today’s round. 35 points. 16 on the front with a wipe and 19 on the back. Also was using 6 club setup :) 5 wd, 5,7,9 ir, 52 degree and putter. Had a ball. Low markers were great guys.
Ended at time of placing card tied first.

Still sounds like a pretty good round AB.

Great round with the half set mate. Did you motivate any of the e single handicappers to give it a go?

I got asked why I had a limited club choice by one on the second hole. I explained my reasons and got told it wasn’t a silly idea. It’s improving my short game (70m in) and that’s a aspect the lower markers seem to excell in.
That and staying away from trouble ;)

Got to touch on some things from yesterday’s round. While warming up the pro ventured out for a chat and some story telling. He made mention of one club he worked at had Japanese students who were also golf elites spend a few weeks training and playing at his club. They had discussed the movement of the ropes on the driving range to accommodate for divots and the necessity to acquire a good surface again. To there surprise they trained the whole time and the ropes never moved. He said there must’ve been ten and thousands of balls hit.
I enjoyed the story but also thought, ‘his admiration for this feat makes me think this is something we should all try and achieve.’
I’ve since been focusing on hitting in front of the ball but ‘brushing the grass’ and it seems to be working a treat.
The other thing that had me frustrated or annoyed on the game was the fact I needed to chip on from 3 metres away and put it 3 metres past. So although it may seem tedious or boring I spent some backyard practice on a 3 m chip. I found this quite rewarding.
The things I’m noticing to improve are concistancy, confidence and mindful decisions. The incorrect choice is often the weakest part of the game.
