Sounds like you held it together in trying conditions. No doubt a lesson learnt for the next round where the weather goes sour.
I try to play in those conditions in practice rounds when the course is often empty to prepare for the situation. I’d say the Melbourne lads have it over us on those ones. :)

Showers are Ok and it’s better to be walking in the rain instead of carting I think. Luckily it’s not cold here when it’s raining so you just get wet. Haha

Not a problem I still enjoyed the game and the added challenge of a wet course.

Well played last Friday with Ben, I had a shocker only hit 2 fairways I recon ugggg.

Ben on the other hand played really well scoring 37 points, not bad when the guy only gets to play every 3 weeks or so.

I didn’t play Saturday, my arthritis was playing up to much so I rang and cancelled, not looking good for this weekend either with another flood peak due tomorrow morning.

Tough on the club with so much time lost and the poor groundsman work their buts off to get the course ready for play and we get hit again …

Maybe that is a good thing as I haven’t been hitting the ball well so a break might have been needed.

Back into golf this weekend, played Friday Stableford comp and hardly hit a fairway :(

On Friday I started well and as the game wore on it got worse, while my striking has been good not so my direction I have been pulling my driver and just not giving myself any chances.

Friday I had 41 and 46 strokes

On Saturday my woes continued with pulled shot after pulled shot and when I did get close I could not chip for the life of me, I’d get within 10m of the green and be down for 4 from there… Simply not good enough.

Saturday I had 46 and 45 but hit fairways on the back 9.

Node must start chipping practice again :)

Ok Friday Stableford tomorrow followed by Stroke Play on Saturday and I’m down to play with some of the Clubs finest about 2 Handicap guys.

Played really well today was really happy with all my clubs except maybe the putter but that’s Ok.

It’s been a long time since I have had such confidence over a ball and knowing where or what direction it will go in. I did a little research on you-tube with some of my favourite instructors and discovered that I had fallen back into one of my bad habits, disconnection on my back swing with a flying elbow.

Scored 18 and 17 today for 35 points (84) but lost my best game ever off my card so I went out to 14 handicap.

So even though I went out I’m pretty happy with my game.

Nice points mate. Focus on the positives. Always a good feeling to have some control :)

Saturdays Round: Stroke.
1st: Hit a good drive just right of centre fairway, good 2nd 4i to be just short of green left on side of mound with long grass, 3rd duffed chip onto fringe grrrr, putt from fringe miss and tap in for a double 6.

2nd: Took Driver stupid stupid move, pushed right into trees no shot, attempted chip hit tree and into fairway bunker, 3rd into greenside bunker, 4th on, 2 putts for a double 6.

3rd: 4i off the Tee pulled slightly away from middle of green toward the pin, lands on green over bunker and off the edge onto the fringe, chip in the hole Birdie :).

4th: Driver to far right of fairway, pulled 4i hits tree and bounces toward green, good chip and 2 putt bogey.

5th: Good drive middle right fairway, thin 2nd shot but good direction to 120m, 9i straight at pin about 4m past, 1 putt birdie.

6th: Slightly pulled 3H to left trees, 120m punch and run 6i through green onto back fringe, 2 putt par.

7th: 7i Draw and wind effected to left of green, poor short putt from fringe, 2 putt bogey.

8th: Good safe drive, 4i punch and run perfect to run past pin and onto fringe, 2 putt par.

9th: Pushed 8i to high side green-side bunker, good bunker shot with 61* lob, 1 putt par.

Front: 6 6 2 5 4 4 4 4 3 = 38 (Pretty happy)

10th: Pushed Driver into trees right, perfect punch draw 6i to 120m, Perfect 9i straight at pin but it does not stop, thinned chip well past hole, 2 putts double.

11th: 4i Pin high right of green, duffed chip to be just on, 2 putts bogey.

12th: Driver 10m to far left into trees no shot backhand chip backward onto fairway, 9i short of green, chip on and 1 putt bogey.

13th: 3 wood duck hooked ouch, found the ball on the next fairway right go figure, Had a good line but hit behind the ball short, 80 GW pulled left, chip on 1 putt bogey.

14th: Great Drive RHS fairway, good 4i bad rh kick just short of green, duffed chip grrrr out of long grass, chip on 2 putt double.

15th: Duck hook Driver oh man, 9i over trees back on fairway, good 4i to green-side bunker, Skulled LW over 2 fairways ugg, good GW to fringe 2 putt double.

16th: Pushed Drive, 7i chip backward out of trees, 4i to gully, chip just on, 2 putt Double.

17th, 3H just caught hosel right, good GW over trees onto green 2 putt bogey.

18th: Great Drive, 3w sliced to much to bunker, long shot to green skulled with SW well over green, chip on 2 putt double.

Back: 7 4 5 5 6 7 6 4 6 = 50 ugg

Total: 88 Gross, 74 net.
Gotta work on chips out of long grass, they are killing me!

Took some time this afternoon to map my targets with my GPS and go back to my target practice. IE: 70% of shots within 10m of the target as per the “How to break 80” plan.

Went back to the shortest club I have the 61 lob wedge, I had 60 balls plus 5 to warm up with that I usually don’t worry about, the distance was 45m.

Wow that is easily my best effort and tomorrow I’ll move up to my 56 Sand wedge and see how that goes.

I find that this practice helps me with tempo as I’m not trying to smash the ball I just have to repeat the swing.

Pitching practice is so good for so many thing. Training your swing through impact. Tempo and rhythm. And of course getting the ball close from outside chipping range.

Sounds like real progress. That’s really solid.

I recall you had some very impressive rounds last time you were doing this. It’s also what encouraged me to practice the 50m shot, something I feel has been a massive shot saver.
Nice starting percentage too. Would definately boost your confidence in that shot.

Certainly did AB unfortunately it’s raining here this afternoon so no practice shots :(.

Instead I vacuumed down the old underfelt and the practice putting matt and relayed it and practised putting 20 balls… My putting has been a little off over the past few months but I haven’t been practising it either so go figure…

My first 3 putts were well left of the hole… but I seemed to come good as I went on…. More putting practice over the next few days / weeks / months I think.

I have adjusted my Driver to 8.5 deg because I have been getting a bit to much height…. Ekk scary shit at 8.5 but can only try it I suppose.

Hit the balls tonight with my 56 Sand wedge, my target was 57m away. I managed to land 26 within 5m of the target or 43% and 53 within 10m of the target or 85% not to shabby.

My practice like this will be with my 51 GW.

Now here is the BONUS…. Golf in the morning then down to Hervey Bay Driving range where they have 6-8 companies displaying their bright shiny new clubs for everyone to hit!!!

Plus it’s my birthday tomorrow and my wife said I could buy anything I liked!!! Ok Shhhh don’t tell her I said that ok!!! /wink
