Friday Stableford: 32 Points.
Lots of things were not working for me including luck. I was one of those days where a seemingly good shot would run into the trees and nestle behind a tree trunk so you had no shot except to play a backhand chip back onto the fairway.
The Good: My playing partner after the round pointed out that I was bending my left elbow when playing all my shots including chips and pitches, I had slipped back into old bad habits.

Played much better today once I got going, wiped the first hole yuck but then things got better. Hit my new driver really well with a GPS measured 276m drive on our Par 4 4th hole leaving me a GW in and stuck that about 2m from the whole.
I’m beginning to hit the Fairway wood and Hybrid better especially off the Tee still a 50 – 50 proposition off the deck but it’s certainly improving.
I chipped and putted much better today as well and felt more like my old self again.

My exact should go down again to a new personal best, but it may be short lived with a played to 11 about to come off :(

Eeek Down to a 12 Handicapper 12.4 to be exact.

Pretty scary I lose a stroke on 2, 5, 6, 7 and 9 on the front 9 holes now. Man reality has set in that’s only 4 bogies allowed for that nine holes…. Arrrgggghhhhh

Remember to allow for a birdie or two most rounds as well!

Mate at a 24 hcp and having hopes of consistent 90-95 roumds (with the 95 being more of my expectation) I never imagined to shoot 87. I did, as you know, and the task to play there seems less of a hurdle.
You’ve done the work to get there. It’s still going down. I think to just keep confidence in your ability and you’ll get there with ease.

Keep a eye on the now, the shot at hand, not the future, holding the trophy or claiming single figures.

Just wait till I play with you to do it :)

Played reasonable golf with a few stuff ups, pulled the wrong club to play out of a green side bunker and didn’t realise until I reached the bunker on the opposite side grrr to late now.

Scored 17 points on the front and 18 points on the back to play to a 13 handicap but was playing off 12 for the first time ever.

Decided that I would use my driver every where I could and I have to say I was hitting it well most of the time.

2nd hole 279m Par 4 I was pin high just past the right hand side green side bunker off the Tee, good chip and 1 putt for bird! w00t.

I did struggle with my shorter irons today with many shots getting pushed costing me quite a few strokes. Not sure what the reason was for this I’ll have to work it out.

Mmmmm played poorly today 91 off the stick or 27 points.

My putting was good and saved me earl on from some poor approaches but the truth is I hardly hit a fairway today and you can’t rely on scrambling all the time hole after hole.

As a played to round of 11 came off and I replaced that with a played to 21 my handicap rose to 12.7 playing off 13.

All Good we all have those rounds.

Tomorrow is the start of the Comp year and the opening event is a 4 Person Ambrose so it should be a fun day!

Good attitude going into the next round.

Well today was the 4 Person Ambrose my Group Teed off on the 18th Hole with a 6:30am Shot gun start.

As we prepared to Tee off I said to the Guys well today is all about having some fun and if we happen to do well then that’s a bonus.

Well bugger me we played really well as a group with someone always making the putt, hitting the green, chipping in or booming one down the middle of the fairway.

As a group we were clubhouse leaders with a 51.75 net leading from a 51.86 poor buggers but then one of the very last groups to come in scored 48. Something and blew us away. We were runners up, but we were winners. One of our group was a new member and had never won anything in golf other than a ball in the run down, another member had his first ever Hole in One.

We shared a few beers and talked about what could have been.

As no Tee shots had to be taken apparently the group that won had stacked the team, 3 low handicap players and a 40 something handicap lady golfer remember that they did not have to use any of her drives if they didn’t want to.

Oh well still a great day out even though it was bloody hot.

Dammit, I’m suppose to play golf with Ben tomorrow but it looks like we will be rained out and probably rained out for the next week or so.

At least my handicap won’t change :)

Despite the weather, and my abysmal opening holes, it was good to have a hit with you Node.

You certainly have some skills – you’re a sneaky player. Nothing flash but next thing you know I am writing down birdie on your card.

Was a great hit despite the weather and I recon we were the only 2 players who went out there all day….

So you win the Comp and I get a 2nd haha…

Difficult conditions mate, hopefully next time it will be looking much better especially after this much needed rain.

You hit a nice ball Ben, it’s only consistency that you lack and that is difficult to achieve with your current work pattern.

Well I have known that something was just not right with my swing over the last couple of months, yeah I have still been able to score well at times but I didn’t have any of those wow did I hit that moments and rarely felt like I made great contact.

I think I have finally worked it out, the transition was not there. I think I may have been losing it slowly over time until it simply was not happening any more.

Yesterday I hit about 50 practice balls and it was not until the last ball that I finally worked it out so I did some checking on You tube last night and yep look like I had it all ass up.

Practised again today with 50 balls and it made a huge difference, I’m actually finishing my swing again and the ball is going where I want it to go most of the time.

Looking forward to Saturdays Monthly medal round.

The “unofficial” millionth POST poster

I believe so AB but some bunkers are out of play, to be played as GUR.

Well I had a horrible round on Saturday, very disappointed in my game.

I think I may have been trying to hard and had high expectations going into the round so that made me tense up.

I hit maybe 2 fairways :( but it was when I relaxed that I played my best, I’ll have to remember the toothpaste trick to help me relax and swing the club rather than hit at the ball.

Hard luck mate. Always next game. Focus on the positives.

Off to play my usual Friday morning Stableford round, seems like forever with floods etc getting in the way. It’s been 4 weeks wow.

Friday comp: Stableford

Played much better golf today and really enjoyed the game. :)

I seemed to realise that I was trying to hit the ball and not swing the club. I think maybe it was due to the rain, I think I was worried about losing the run the course was giving me before the floods. No need really I was hitting the ball close to my longest drives today.

Scored 17 points on the front and 18 points on the back with a wipe. Played a silly shot on the 13th grrr should not have listened to my playing partner and taken my medicine.

Anyway I feel like I’m back on track again. phew…

Saturday comp: Stroke.

Played well, felt in control most of the time, then it rained but it stopped and scored a 41 for the front 9 not to shabby.

By the 12th hole it p!ssed down and never stopped raining everything was soaked, clubs, gloves, score card yuck. Tried hard to hold the club and play within myself but those extra 1 shots per hole told on me and finished with a 47 on the back 88 off the stick and 75 net.

Not bad really, probably my putting let me down, had a day where I was 1 roll short, 1 ball left or right etc just never made those crucial putts.

But felt good, my irons are back and I hit most fairways without being very long.
