Just did a quick calculation:

IF (theoretically and by sheer coincidence) you were to replace those 4 flag rounds with 4 more of playing to 19 or worse, you handicap could be out to 18.5 (19 ) by time OOM 1 at Sanctuary Lakes.

Took out the Cobra Amp driver today. That thing is fantastic. Not quite as long as the ping, but so much straighter.
Still longer than my R11 but.

Got to the course early, hit a bucket of balls. Have noticed my left heel coming of the ground lately, so concentrated on that.
Seemed to work quite well.

Teed of on the back 9, didn’t really do to much wrong, except the same thing as yesterday.
I dont get a shot on the 12th, and, same as yesterday, I picked up a shot early.
I wanted to top myself yesterday, but today, doing it again is just stupid. Was only 6 inches away as well.
Turned in 14 pints, which is dissapointing, considering how well I was striking the ball.

Made the turn, played ok, nothing special, nothing terrible.
Just missed by a tiny bit, but at Beatwood, it’s enough to tear you a new arse. Highlight of my day was the 6th.
Very steep uphill dog leg left Par 4 340m.
Aimed for the huge trees left edge, said to my partners Im going over them. Holy piss, it cleared them by a friggin mile. 109 to the front, maybe 10 metres above me, hit the best PW of my shitty career to 1 foot. Tap in Birdy.
Then wiped the next hole!!!!
Finished with 30 points.

Its so bloody frustrating. Im very close to playing good golf at Beastwood, but I just cant seem to work out were Im leaking my shots.

Golf is shit again, im back out to 17.

1st: Driver, or if downwind 3 wood
2nd: anywere from 5 iron to 8 iron.
3rd: Still experimenting. Choke down driver today left me 45 in. usually a 4 iron or 2,3 hybrid.
4th: Driver all day. great hole.
5th: Driver, just because it is a huge bastard hill!
6th: Driver, Today it was just massive over the trees, but am thinking 3 wood or 2 hybrid to right side?
7th: Driver to the top of the dog leg, but lately I have been driving through the fairway. Actually drove onto the 8th tee yesterday!
8th, 7 iron to 2 hy
9th, 2 or 3hy to the centre of the dogleg
10th: same as first, driver or 3 wood
11th: Driver, usaully to right edge, or into trees
12th: No shot, driver to left edge o
13Th: Driver, normally ok
14th: 5i to 8 i today
15th: Driver. Love an elevated tee shot. Usually down on the outside of the corner.
16th: driver, but am thinking 3 wood? further you go, harder to hold the fairway.
17th: 6i- 8i
18: Depends on how im hitting driver. if driver is going well, awesome. If not, 3 wood or 2h

Rob, Eastwood is a course that you normally can’t overpower and the futher you hit driver the harder it is to hold the doglegs.
My club selections for you to be able to score :

1/ 3 wood at f/w bunkers
2/ Iron
3/ 3 iron/hybrid – leaves about 100/110 in
4/ Driver – LHS
5/ Driver – LHS
6/ 3 wood/ hybrid
7/ Driver – fade
8/ Iron
9/ 3 iron/hybrid
10/ 3 wood at bunkers
11/ 3 wood – Driver if confident
12/ 3 wood LHS and then 3 wood or lay up 5 iron centre left
13/ 3 wood/driver RHS – drawn low running shot in
14/ iron 1 high
15/ Driver
16/ 3 wood then lay up ( can’t get home in 2 very often )
17/ Iron/hybrid
18/ Hybrid – long iron to a fav flater spot and distance

So you would only use the bigdog 4/5 times if I was on the bag.
If you can’t easily make the greens in reg then make your miss in the best places to get up and down ( use your strokes better )
You currently use driver about 10/13 times per round and unless you can shape it really good it is to tight for you.
No shame in hitting the greens from the middle of the fairways, takes the stress away from having to bomb it and shape it too.
See how close you can get the other clubs ( 3 wood, hybrids, irons ) from the tee to the best position or angle into the greens.
Learn to use the minimum amount of force required to play, nett par golf !

Worth sticking to this plan Rob. Course management rules at Eastwood. As for you Jon, I think you may have played Eastwood once or twice by the sound of it?

our 2nd is only 277m but there is trouble everywhere
pots OObs creek etc etc
the big bombers can drive the green and fly the pots
i always hit 3 wood as i kn0ow it wont make the pots
par it every time with the odd birdy thrown in
took me months to learn to be more sensible

The scorecard tells the tale of today.
I went with Jon’s guide to the letter. I made 6 fairways today but only 2 GIR. Which were 2 of my 3 pars.
Anywho…

A 10, 2×8’s and 2×7’s didnt really help matters to much at all.

Hole 1. scored a 7 massive pull with 3 wood into the trees. Just got uglier.

Hole 4. scored a 7. Topped driver into the water straight in front. I dont believe I have topped a driver for ages. was a bit annoyed actually

Hole 12. Sscored an 8. 3 wood ok. Pulled 5i into the left edge but way short. Pulled another 7 iron to short left. Shit lie, caught it heavy. Shitter lie, caught it thin, bladed it over the green.

Hole 13. Scored the 10. Awesome 3 wood to left centre. 190 to go.
Mint 6 iron, just caught a overhanging branch, bounced into the shit. Dropped 3, hit 4. Mint 6 iron, exactly the same as above. Dropped 5, hit 6. Fat 6 iron, to left edge. Chipped out to 35 or so. chip on 2 putts.

Hole 16. Scored an 8. Major push with 3 wood, into the ball eating monster.

So, basically I just played crap. Actually the 4 of us just played some really bad golf. By the end we were just laughing and carrying on.

It was a good fun round, punctuated by 5 really disastrous holes.

I played pretty reasonable golf.

Granted it was at the Airport Course, , but a 40 is a 40.

Seeing how wide the fairways were definantly gave me confidence.

3 pars and 6 bogeys. All from the greens being totally opposite to Beastwood. So bloody slow.

Not sure if i am just scared of Eastwood or not. I dont think so, just the front 9. It bloody kills me!

Anywho, a lesson is booked for Monday morning, maybe Garth can smack some sense into me.

this Eastwood track sounds tough, is it tight, long or just well bunkered or something ?

Shit rob. Seems like you are on struggle street at the moment. I know what it’s like and funny thing is, I shot my PB of 80 and played some good golf before my swing implosion in may last year.

I reckon you have it in you however in the midst of moving courses, and ever evolving swing tweaks, you have kind of lost your way a little. I trust that your game of old will return and this side journey into mediocrity will force you to look into your game a little more, help you identify your areas that need improving and you will come through even better on the other side. This strong draw/hook was something I saw creep into your game that wasn’t there before and believe that it should be an easy fix considering your ability to hit the little pill.
