Dart, had read that before but so glad I read it again! My learning curve has been huge and I have forgotten so much that I’ve checked out along the way, as the mind gets older the info needs to be punched in a few more times.
I agree that it makes sense that the putting stroke be a miniature version of the full stroke, why complicate things? I’ll be working on those tips, thanks.

Stink.

I learn more when I read it again. Same with everything.

Wow, Metropolitan, what a course! Such nice fairways and true but hard greens. Had a total blast today and feel really great about my game. No amazing score, shot 30pts, but played some of the best golf shots ever. Only missed 2 fairways today, I love the 3i off the tee! The first one I missed was the 9th where I used driver and lost ball in trees, lesson in that.
Highlights were the;
1st Par 4, 3i down guts, 7i to 10 feet! Par, great start.
6th par 5, 2×3i’s to fringe, chip almost an eagle, easy putt for 4/4, just lovely.
15th (hardest hole, long par 4) 3i down guts, 4i(185) to 12 feet, Par!
Only 1×3 putt!

There were more but my swing is coming. I can feel a confidence when I hit it well, like I know it’ll work. My wayward shots I’m feeling too, like I can tell before hand that I’m not in the right ‘zone’. Mostly it’s indecision or distraction. This I need to work on too, making sure I’m ready in my mind before I step up, as I’m realising how important that is I’m checking with myself that I know what I’m doing and I think I can pull it off.

I love this game.

So much fun!

You know, I was remembering some shots, and that good feeling is in PP#3 for me, if I get the feeling there in my waggle I feel like I’m hitting the ball with my right finger, even though my pivot is driving like the proverbial! Little extreme but it’s kinda like that. I’ve been doing lots of short chips and focusing on the pressure there and I can see how this can guide me very well. Doing this along with my PST is bringing it all to life. I have the patience and can see this working out very well over time.

you’re in for a fun summer mate. keep on drilling

The biggest lesson I ever learned was, not, whether it works or not, but, if it makes mechanical sense, do it ‘till it does work.

The day of smoke and mirrors is gone. Gimmicks are gone. Fundamentals have nothing to do with trial and error

Well it’s a hard old game. I’m not disillusioned, and I learn each time I play, but I hope I put it all together soon. I have excuses, like anyone. Work late, up at 5.30 to play, bloody strong wind etc etc.

29 pts today. Didn’t play that bad, it’s all in my head. I realise more each time I play that my biggest challenge in golf is me, I need to conquer my thoughts, my yearning to get a good score, my frustration at duffing that shot that I can easily make, my excitement at making a great hole and thinking ahead. I’m using CK’s, I’m practicing my arse off, but I think I just need to play more. Not as in more often, just as in having more experience at good and bad golf to realise it doesn’t matter, just play each shot and it’ll all work out in the end.

I still love this game.

PS, my putting is improving : )

Hi all, well just had a week away from golf due to work/travel, must say it was a physical week away, but not mental. So many aspects are rattling around in my brain.
Before I left I went out for a quick 9 (last Mon). For what seemed like the first time, on the first few holes I could really feel pp#4 hammering. This wasn’t helping me, though it was interesting to ‘get it’. Getting sick of pushing out right I stopped and had a little think. I needed to get the club turning through, my path was good but the pp#4 release was flying off and the ball was heading straight out to the right. Then I remembered the ‘right arm on plane at address’ thing, for all I know I was doing this already but this time I concentrated on this at set up with the idea that it would be back and through, easy like. All of sudden the ball was down the middle with good distance and seemingly little effort, though I could really feel my pivot firing through. For me, this all seemed to relate back to pp#3, if I can get that, it seems in much more control.

So all week I’ve been just thinking about this, motioning the movement of the BRW turning over and pushing through, imagining sensing it all through #3 etc. The more I realise what needs to be learned, or I should say the subtleties involved in the execution, the more patience I realise I need.

A quick 9 yesterday initially saw me hooking the ball, too much turn, to be expected after thinking that all week. I relaxed, slowed it down, put my mind in my hands and bang, there it is, control. But wait, this great thing happened, don’t know why, but all of a sudden it felt to me like everything was firing to about 3 or more feet in front of the ball, like I was accelerating way way past the ball. LIGHT BULB moment, almost can’t explain the feeling, like my whole swing had moved forward, the fastest point being well past impact, even on pitches. Dam I hope I can get that again, I think I understand what happened. If I pushed this too hard it would hook like hell, if I got it right, look out.

Anyhow, so much to learn, what a game? I’ll see how it goes today : )

Well how quick things change. Couldn’t get it at all today, didn’t hit one fairway on the front 9! And get this, I got 20 points? Golf is just weird, I was duffing my way to near the green then up and down easy, just a crazy game.

I’m definitely willing to accept that in the stage of learning I’m in it is difficult not to think too much, time is needed to settle it all in and own my new knowledge. It’s all close, bear with me,,,,,,,,

Had a nice reminder last night. I had to take a local Brass Band in which are some of my students. Upon listening and observing them playing in that situation, I kept thinking to myself these guys need to spend more time on the basics! They’re trying to do fancy stuff and falling flat as the foundation is still not solid.

Wham, that was me yesterday off the tee. My short game was great as I kept it so simple, basics were strong, that saved my arse. But on full shots I was trying to do things and getting way to complex and thus confused. Back to basics, back to PST after a week off. Goes to show that it takes time, Rome wasn’t built in a day.

It is a journey, not a trip Stinks.

Not matter how good the ball striking, it is always the short game that puts the scores on the card I find. I have had rounds where my striking was mostly crap but I got up and down all day and scored well under my handicap. Others where I was hitting the ball so well, but could not buy a putt or a break. You have to think your way around the course I have found, try to over power it and it will kick you in the cods quick smart! Do the basics well and the rest falls into place over time.

Great lesson Stink.

Like everything else golf needs nurture like your body needs air.

Kel Knagle told me that he took two weeks off to go fishing and it took him six months to get back where he was.

The trick for amateurs is to design your golf so it is low maintenance.

Learn what the basics are and what you have to do to keep them sharp enough to do what you want.

First decide what you want and when. Or you may be wasting your time.

Thanks Daves and Dart, both very good points that I shall be reflecting upon.

On a side note, just had a hit of Tennis for the first time in 15 years, I’m better at that than golf as I played it heaps as a kid. Very interesting in relation to grip, body movement and mind games! Does pp#3 apply to tennis, a bent wrist for forehand and a flat wrist for back hand? VH for lob, HH for top spin slam?? Sure felt like it,,,,

I’m glad in golf you don’t have to run to the ball though : )

but the person playing tennis is far cuter!! Maybe I should play in a skirt? : )

She is for sure…. I’m not one for making assumptions, but I’m gonna bet that you should stay away from the skirt and stick to the bent right wrist!

I coach a golf coach. As soon as I showed him the BRW his entire head fired up like an Xmas tree. Maintaining the Flying Wedges became almost instant.

...do you mean tennis coach?

Thinking about that photo may well help my golf game, kinda like a clear key. Maybe I need flash cards,,,,,,,

The BRW thing is very interesting though, and the way in turns over in the stroke, or under as the case may be. I guess physics is physics, or should that be physics are physics? Mm, grammar are grammar, that’s for sure.

Yeah, Stinkler, the BRW is very interesting and pronounced in tennis. What’s interesting too is that a slice forehand is not an often used shot as the predominant shot from that side is hit with topspin or a straight, flat, block back sort of shot. You could consider the forehand the hitters action as it’s rear side driven? Maybe..You see a lot of slice type volleys with a more descending action through the shot- a top spin volley being both rare and quite difficult. I’m sure this has a lot to do with ball height at the time of impact. On the backhand, the slice is a lot more common of a shot than it is on the forehand- it’s obviously a pulling action making it easier to lead the handle through and more akin to a swinger? Maybe. Though the users of the two handed backhand basically all switch to single hand when hitting a slice- it’s rare if ever you see a two handed slice backhand that’s driven. I wonder how this pertains to golf and the predominant shot shape for hitters and swingers. I know that it’s said that hitters tend to fade, but since I’ve moved over to hitting I’ve found it much easier to hit controlled draws. It’s interesting stuff….I’d love to hear a TGM analysis of tennis as it’s a game I draw a lot of golf understanding from….
And I would imagine that photo would be quite the clear key- maybe a bit to good….
