Same thing, Bix, same questions.

Totally ignorant about almost everything except golf.

Well I would define pivot as the turning of the hips and torso, so I don’t pivot during a putt. But I don’t think I could get a lob wedge up the side of the green complex and to the hole 20m away with a shoulder rock, so I would likely pivot on them.

Not sure what you’re saying razaar. How could I hit a 10m chip without any body rotation?

The clubhead follows plane line with the face looking at the target, the hands go directly back parallel to the plane line, the left shoulder tilts downwards as the left arm passes across the body the right arm remains extended which forces the right shoulder up. The downward pressure exerted by the right thumb pad on the first knuckle of the left thumb cocks the wrist.
The forward swing is powered by the vertical movement of the left shoulder, which is the reverse of the takeaway. At the completion of the takeaway For a 10 metre chip both arms are extended with the wrists hinged – the left palm faces upwards and the right faces downwards. This gives power and direction to the shot while keeping the sweetspot of the clubhead on the plane line.

Totally ignorant about almost everything except golf.

Sounds like everyone is going round and round in circles like a dog chasing its tail, golf ain’t that hard, you shouldn’t have to think about anything when you swing the club?? Just hit the ball

I like clean chics with dirty minds

I’m on the IPad, otherwise I would attach it.

Hit the range with sandyman this morning. He was working on his wedges so we went to Logan which has a grass range and an excellent short game area. Spent about 3 hours (sandy about 1.5).

First up was very happy with my full swing. The nice thing about grass ranges is they don’t help a flipper like the mats do. So I was forced to work on getting my hands going past impact. I hopefully will get another range session or two in before the Glades to really get myself grooved with this swing. Simple movement with the hands directing the action. Risk areas are …

... setting up with the hands away from my body – almost always gets a hook result because my basic setup is fairly strong in the grip and I swing strong left with a closed face – ie hook city!

... quitting on the hands where they decelerate too much through impact and again hook city here we come as I flip the face closed.

Otherwise it is a simple swing that produces a nice straight flight, generally with a little draw.

Pitching today was very much the same story as the full swing. Keep those hands moving through the impact area and I was hitting some of the best pitches I’ve ever done. Lower takeoff, then some climb before dropping. Very nice. Definitely no flip! :-)

Did a fair bit of chipping as well and this approach works very well there too. The feel is in the hands, so it seems to work well that the swing is in the hands too! Some very nice chip and run shots. Couldn’t beat sandy for closest to the pin honours even once, but still very happy with the practice.

I am so looking forward to The Glades.

I’m at an interesting phase GSP because I am now going for a real handicap and have only got one official card. Which was a 27! So not good! :-)

My unofficial handicap is 12 based on my last 20 scorecards, best 8 average x .93.

Hopefully I’ll have a good round in the next 2 cards and have a decent official handicap. Or I’ll play off 27 and maybe win a comp! :-)

Another range session during the week; hopefully get another in today before The Glades tomorrow.

Weakened my grip a bit as I’m starting to hook it, which had an immediate effect. Was pretty solid for most of the session. Within an acceptable range around my target. Swinging hard through impact is important for me to combat my tendency to get lazy and flip it.

Have also been doing some putting. Reread some great info on Geoff Mangum’s site yesterday. Reminded me how to check my arm setup position by dropping the right hand off the grip and seeing where it hangs. Will do the same on full swings to see if it works there too.

My reminders to myself are the grip change and aggression through the impact zone. And the right arm test and left shoulder straight down for putting.

Really looking forward to The Glades. Been keen to play it for a while now.

Handicap round 2/3 today. Played the Glades at Robin a today for the first time. Pretty wet front nine so didn’t enjoy the beauty of the course like I might have but it was a good course, lots of variety and interesting holes. Enjoyed the course and the company.

Thanks placegetter, Don and JB.

Finished with a 19 over 91 off the gold tees, which is 21 over the ACR. Bit of a disappointing score, mainly because of the four holes that were worse than bogie. But the back was an improvement on the front, and could have been a 42 if I hadn’t put my drive on 18 into the water! Which is more like the scores I’m chasing.

Conditions were tough with only one person getting 36 points and his handicap was a guess and was probably a shot or two better than he should have (first time with the group). The front nine was very wet. The bent grass greens are not what we’re used to. The rough was very heavy. And the pins were mostly tucked away in nasty spots. So not all bad.

Key stats were 1 bird, 4 pars, 9 bogies, 2 doubles, 1 triple and 1 quad. 47 front, 44 back for net 79 (off 12).

8/14 fairways. 3 GIR. 3/15 up and downs.

Was 5 over on my long game. 2 for double tree action on 6. 1 on 8 which involved a pushed tee shot and a toed 4 wood from the rough to leave. 65m pitch in didn’t get down (not for a long time, see short game below).

Got one back on the par 5 12th where a good drive and 4 wood left me with a 50m pitch that I got down for birdie.

Put my tee shot on the par 3 17th through the green and into the water. And then drove into the water on 18 which required an awkward shot from the drop effectively costing me 2 shots.

14 over on the short game despite putting quite well – well enough to win the ‘total putts’ putting comp with 31 official putts. 4 Texas wedge shots though takes a little gloss off that – only got on of them down.

My chip shot on the first took a first bounce in the rough and stopped on the fringe, then I 3 putted from off. The rough was very challenging for the short game. Even the first cut would grab the ball and stop it.

3 putted the 2nd and the 16th. And the 8th, which was a 4 putts from off. My 65m SW from above plugged in deep right in the face. Thought I had no chance but smashed my LW Shawn Clement style and got the ball out. Was very pleased until I took another 4 from about 4-5m! Yuck.

Failed to get up and down on 5, 7, 9, 10, 13, 14 and 18 as well.

Handicap wise I now have 2 cards. 24 and 19 over the stick. 26 and 21 over the ACRs. So I’m looking at 19 to start with unless I beat that with my final card!

So much for 12! :-)

I don’t think you’ll be far away from 12 when you get your cards in Weetie.

... and I’d put money on you being closer still after 6 months : )

Only handicap-wise Goldy! :-)

Next game is with Brisbane Fairways Social Club at Windaroo, a course I like and have played as few times so hopefully have a bit of game at. And where I scored my 80. So hopefully I can put it together there with Pigskin and the boys.

Weetie, with those first 2 cards you would be looking at maybe 17 Handicap….

It not designed to be your average game….. ;)

With your first 3 cards I understand they take your best score against ACR and apply the perdormance factor of .93. That would mean 21 x .93 so 19.53. So actually 20.

That is how i read the info on Golflink.

Any handicappers (real ones I mean)?

My understanding is that it is up to the handicapper to make a decision, I may be wrong with the new handicap system.

But usually it is 1 or 2 below cards that is why I said 17. They don’t want you to go out and win when you first get your handicap.
