Going with the lady wife on Saturday to watch the Ladies Masters. Should be motivational. Really looking forward to watching them around the green to see their trajectory and how the ball reacts on the greens. Will be interesting to see how the course comes up. Not much time for the cleanup since they’ll be starting tomorrow.

Are you doing any clinics? They have had package deals of entry and pro lessons before.

No clinics planned. Unless the missus decides she wants to do one which I doubt! But you never know.

And here I am to do just that Deege! :-) We were there from about 8.30 to 3.00, which covered both the first and last tee off groups. For the early groups we watched a couple of groups tee off the 1st, and followed the last group off until they finished that hole. Then we cut over to the 17th until Laura Davies and Kathryn Hull’s group came through. We followed them down the 18th and then sat there for a while watching at that green. I was surprised at the lack of power that many of them had. Still scored though, which is a good lesson. I saw a lot of chips left short which surprised me. Overall they were very straight. The poorer shots sere more misdirected than bending badly. I didn’t see any shots that bent much. Very impressive. Overall it made me feel that with just a bit of improvement in consistency with my long shots, and lots with my short game, I can play low. After that we chased Karrie Webb around the course. We got to watch a clinic. She was 4 under for the first 8 and could have been a shot or two better. Didn’t really miss a fairway. Was longest of the group often by a substantial margin. But it was he approach shots that really shone. She was all over the pin time after time. Beautiful trajectory and perfectly straight irons straight at the target. Man she was impressive. We caught her getting the bogie on 9 as we left which was a shame. That 9th hole is ridiculous. How can a woman’s game have a 413m par 4? That’s 450 yards! Not many USPGA par 4 holes that long! The par 5 18th is only 17m longer! Was great to go and see the ladies in action. I see their game as a good target for me, lengthwise and trajectory wise. They didn’t hit the ball that high, so it shows you can play low scores with a lower trajectory. The missus and I had a good time. We want to go see the blokes do it some time soon – maybe Coolum.

I’ve been trying to get time to watch it on ABC1 but haven’t got much of a chance. I agree that the women are a better base for club male golfers. Not because they’re lesser players but the distances are probably more realistic for comparison.

Haha! Indeed. The speed of plan and the scheduling were run to the second today. The first groups finished their 18 just as the second groups were heading for the tees. Very well run on the day. The course allowed the crowds to move around and get good views all the time. The crowds weren’t huge. Even with Karrie. But there were always people where ever you went, so they were getting the people there.

Just turned the Euro PGA game on to see Sergio chucking a good spack in the bunker. Know how that feels! Was a good tanti!

Talking about a spack, finished with 97 at Gailes today. Ugly! Been working on a change in how I approach the swing – in my intention for my swing. It’s a whole week old and it wasn’t ready for the course. Was not so bad in the full swing, only dropped a few shots from that. But my short game sucked. There were a few things the course threw at me that didn’t help. The sand in some of the bunkers was terrible hard. Hit some shots way over the green because I hit the ball thin. Should have hit them like chipping off dirt! And had a couple of bad bounces that went into big yuck. But overall the problem was my chipping and pitching. Good news though! Putted well – 32 putts. Only 1 3 putt. This is my first handicap card round so I might get 27 as my official handicap! Should win a ball or two with that handicap! :-) Full wrap up to come later!

27 pfft…. this thread’s gunna need a burglar alarm : )
There are two types of people in this world. Those that can extrapolate from incomplete data…. |

50 front 47 back 97 I lost 4 shots on the long game – hooked my tee on the 5th, my chip and run then hit a piece of branch on the ground, bounced left and into a garden, requiring a drop and a pitch to the green. 2 shots lost. On the 15th I pushed the tee shot into the trees. My 4 iron punch out didn’t slice and went across the fairway into a big ditch. Drop! Then a chip and run to the green (which I hit soft!). 2 shots gone. Otherwise I was there or there abouts on the long game. With the par 5s there was only 1 of the 4 where I was close after 2, so didn’t take advantage of them to recover shots. So I lost 4 shots on the long game. And I was 24 over the card! So what happened to the other 20? Well first up there were only 3/15 up and downs so there is 12 shots. Then there was the par 3 third. Holy cow was that ugly. That was the point where I realised that my chipping was not ready for the course with my different intent. Or rather that my intent hadn’t translated for me. It started with a sand shot off something that looked like sand but was substantially firmer than usual. Which sailed over the green. I then took four wussy chips of varying degrees of hopelessness to get the ball back up to the top of the slope and near the green. Two putts and a 5 over 8. The score I was hoping for on the whole nine in one hole! So that leaves 4, 2 of which are accounted for with a chip over the green then a sand shot on the 5th (this was after the 2 lost full shots in the trees). Altogether that made a 4 over on that hole! :-) The other 2 were due to overshooting sand shots on 10 and 13. The sand was not my friend today. Despite all that the company was excellent as was the weather, so a good afternoon had!

Weeti …..... a quick tip in regard to “4 woosy chips of hopelessness” .... or as I like like to call it …..... chipping like a “big jessie”. Here’s my tip …....... dont ever power a chip shot with just your arms, cause they can be lazy bastards at times. Rotate and use your pivot …... no matter how short the chip, and make sure you get to arms fully extended after impact. If you do that all the time, just think “rotate thru” and “arms extended” ... you’re chipping will improve dramatically. You just want to think about making sure you get to your finish position. I’ve been guilty of the “big jessies” in just using the arms recently, and as soon as I remembered to rotate etc ….... it was an instant fix Sorry for the interruption gents …....... let normal services resume :-)

Hey Node – will do. Cheers! AB mate – yep! :-) Thanks GPJ – good advice and I will take that on board. Well done sandy – well earned.

Hey Gaz, been thinking more about what you said above. Really good stuff. Very true that the hands are lazy! :-)
http://www.golflink.com.au/... |

Bix, be careful with that advice. A chip is an extended putt, would you pivot during a putt? Would you rock your shoulders in a see-saw action in a putt and chip or would you pivot? Would you pivot in the takeaway in a normal shot or not? Where does the takeaway stop and the pivot begin or are they one action? What is the pivot?
Totally ignorant about almost everything except golf. |

Went to the range tonight for a hit, some sand play and some chipping. Couple of hours well spent. I really hope that I can keep building on the swing work I have started. My things to remember from tonight for the full swing are basically around swinging my hands pretty much over my toes in the through swing. Produced a nice straight flight. My sand learning was a relearning. Something that I keep forgetting! :-). Which is to swing down through a spot into the sand that is in line with the target line and not the swing path. That will stop the shaking that really hurts my sand play. I really really really need to remember that.

Hey razaar. Maybe I should be talking about pitches. The problem shots were much longer than a shoulder rock could get the ball. In the 5 to 20m range.
