distance from boundary

what would be the recomemded distance from the back of a green and course boundary

We usually allow a minimum of 25 metres from the back edge of the green. It depends on a number of other factors as well though such as the slope, length and angle of approach shot, existing tree stands etc. Behind the green is not usually a big problem as not most players poor shot is short, left or right, not long – especially 25 metres long which is really 2 or more clubs (although my pull-hook can go at least that long and 50 metres left). We find the 25 metres gives us the safety buffer though, as well as the opportunity to landscape/screen out the boundary because the last thing you want as a backdrop to a green is a house.

Thanks Wilksie the hole I am thinking off is under construction at present, the hole is a apx 525m par 5 straight layout with a slight down gradiant to a green raised apx 1m above the fairway , the boundary fence however is apx 3-4 meters behind the green. cheers peter

Peter,

From a players point of view, 525m probably puts it out of reach in two for the majority of golfers. They would have to hit a 300m drive and then a 225m 3w. A decent drive and 2nd shot is going to leave most inside the 150m range anyway, meaning a mid to short iron approach. What does the hole measure from the forward tees?

from the forward tee 500m
