The Australian Golf Club

Yes a new thread about Golf Architecture. This page is bloody quiet. Lets have some chat.

I’ve never played at the Australian but I’m not sure if I like the look of it – ponds and lakes and grass faced bunkers. Yep – its a Nicklaus course.

From what I saw on TV, I certainly wouldn’t rate it in the top 25 courses of Australia.

Those ratings are very subjective as we all know. Just look at the latest GD Top 100.

Somone who prefers a links layout, may think a parkland or resort layout etc is Mickey Mouse and visa versa.

Without going into the architectual merits of The Oz (I am not qualified in this area) one should play it to experience it. Yes it is manicured and yes it has been changed considerably from how it used to be, but playing it off the plates is an experience.

There aren’t too many top tracks in Sydney anyway where you regularly see it rated 78 on a medal day. Its a tough challenge!

In saying that I would have loved to have had the opportunity to play the old ‘kensington’ layout. I’m told that was a REAL experience!

Who is this Mr Ca$hmore and where is he been?

I never played the old layout, but I did caddy there as a junior and I did play the caddies layout… nice place, lovely design and a pain in the rear to carry a bag around….

Cliff Manley

3 bad shots and 1 good shot is still a 4....
Golf is played in a very small area, the 6 inches between your ears...

One swing to hit the ball,
one swing to find a score,
One swing you bring to all,
And on the fairway find them.

If your a big fan of links golf then it’s probably not your cup of tea… but I think the course is great, and the practise facilities, are the best in Australia IMO..

I personally love it beacuse it is such a challenge of the blacks, which is the only way to play it…

It is definitely a ball strikers course.
