Sydney - Driving Range Session (Lever Power Golf)

Where: Terrey Hills Paradise Driving Range, bottom level, far
end (This is a long post) Hello. I am new here so let me quickly introduce myself. 31 years old. Pretty busy job. Not enough time for golf. My new year resolution: PLAY MORE GOLF! Because I don't get much time to play/practise, I've been searching for an easier way to play this (sometimes frustrating) game. I stumbled onto Moe Norman and Natural Golf and then a method called Lever Power Golf (LPG). Here's a quick summary of LPG. (BTW, I am not affiliated in any way with the guys who sell/teach this method. ) You hold the club in the palm of the right hand (instead of fingers) and this gives you more support and helps the club to come into the ball on the same plane as the right forearm through impact. You can compare the feel to hammering a nail. You also let the left arm bend, almost 90 degrees, and this takes away a lot of the strain in the lower back and the left shoulder. The left wristcock is kept to a minimum which is supposed to give you more accuracy. The method is taught using a training device you wear on your left wrist.
This method was recently introduced to Australia, and was
presented at the 2004 Gold Expo in Melbourne. I flew down
Melbourne and met Jack and Cameron (Australian distributor) and
had a quick lesson with them. I also met a couple of Sydneysiders
using LPG. We have arranged to meet up for a range session on
Friday 27th Feb 6:30pm, at the Terrey Hills Paradise Driving
Range, bottom level at the far end. We are inviting anyone who is
interested in seeing this swing in action to come along and join
us. Bring your clubs and have a hit with us, or just watch our
"whacky" swings. If anyone is interested in coming along, please send me a message, or email me at jono_007@hotmail.com.

Can I ask what your handicap is? How long you have been playing and what your goals are?

Hi Jaster, I don't have an AGU handicap at the moment as I am not a member of a club. I first hit a golf ball when I was 13 or 14, but the golf bug didn't bite until I started uni and started playing in comps. The lowest I got down to was 6 or 7, but that was long time ago, when I played couple of times a week. Since I started work, my playing time decreased dramatically, and my handicap started going up. I quit playing competition golf and just played socially handful of times a year. I started experimenting with different swings until I landed on Lever Power swing. Since having the lesson in Melbourne recently, I have renewed enthusiasm for golf and I am going to find the time to play more. I haven't joined a club yet, but that's on the agenda, and getting back to competition golf. As to goals, my long term goal has always been to reach scratch, but I guess in the short term, it would be to get an AGU handicap and play consistently to single figure handicap. I noticed that you are located in Toowoomba. I will be working in Lismore from April to June. Do you know how far Lismore is from Toowoomba? Perhaps we can meet for a game sometime? Cheers, Jono.

A long, looooooong way. Lismore is just over an hour from the Gold Coast. Gold Coast to Toowoomba - how many 1000's of km's? Anybody? Where did you play your golf, and what brings you to Lismore? Decent track there, albeit volanoe dirt you're playing on. If they could stop the ants digging up the fairways then it would be a much better course.

Hi Dan, I used to be a member at Castle Cove and then at Roseville. The subscription fee was going up and I wasn't playing very much, so I am no longer a member. I am looking to join up somewhere again. Wakehurst or Longreef, perhaps.
I'll be working at the Lismore Hospital. They're short of
doctors and I was asked to work there for three months. I thought
it would be a good experience and on my weekends off, I can drive
across the border to play some of the great courses in
Queensland.

Oh.
I have no idea about anything north of the Gold Coast, much less
than Brisbane. And until you adopt daylight savings that
won't be changing

Jaster, That's a cool travel planner. I may need it when I drive up to Lismore from Sydney. Thanks.

I don't have a clue about that area either. I'll have to buy a few maps before I drive up.
BTW, the lady golfer under your name shows a good top of
backswing position for LPG. Bent left arm with the left elbow
staying below the left shoulder and stable lower body. Hmmm ...
perhaps the shaft is a bit to upright ...

Hi Jono I am reasonably new to Golf. I have been playing for about 6 months. During that time I have gone from shooting between 100 – 120. Down to 88 – 98. I have incorporated a swing into my game by David Nevoght and Bobby Eldrige. It has given me success and was the reason I have been able to get my scores down. However, I have read so much about the Level Power Golf Swing that I am very tempted to throw myself into that. Before I make the investment, can you tell me wether you think it has been successful? Would you recommend for a high handicapper such as me? In general how much improvemnent have you noticed in your game? And how much commitment to time and drills have you put in to get these successes? I would also be interested in hearing from anyone else on the forum that knows anything about Lever Power Golf. Thanks ps. I tried to email ou but it came back undeliverable, my email address is:

Psst… this thread is 4 years old :-) so I dunno if Jono is still around. Good to hear about the steady improvement and welcome to the forums.

Welcome Rodeo, you may be a bit late for Jono, but stick around and you will learn all things golf on this site. TGM is the preferred method, but there are all sorts of other bits and pieces to assist with your game. Ask questions all over the place, sit back, learn and enjoy. Plenty of exceptional golf talents to advise you along the journey. We have teachers, pros, aspiring pros, fitters, manufacturers, fitness gurus, rules officionados, hackers and absolute nuffers like me, even a bloke that can play good golf but just likes to hit golf balls a loooong way. There are blokes and lassies from all parts of the globe running around this site who will offer advice, friendship and a helping hand when and where required. Got a couple that get a tinge agro at times too, but that’s the aussie way.
The key to success is to learn to do something right, then do it right every time. Oh I wish..... |
