As agreed on the SL putting green, OOMBET has agreed to continually roll over your account balance on the nose of the big fella taking the day out.

Every now and then, the BS and dribble and fun and frivolity that gets spouted on here quietens down and allows posts like the DJ’s above to be thrust into the fore. It shows the spirit in which the game should be played, and the integrity and character that we hope and wish everyone we compete against exhibits. Whilst our days are very “social” and “laid back”, this is because of the quality people that come to it and the attitude people take in making them very enjoyable days. However they are still “official” comps and thus rules need to be stuck to to uphold their validity against other comps. DJ, you’re a star mate, and you should be proud of your actions and attitude regarding this matter. You might be a short arse, but you’re massive in stature. I tip your hat to you. By the way, I wouldn’t talk to OOMBET if I was you. The resulting Peaksy win, cost him big time and he’s sulking around the house like a 3yr old

Interesting but wouldn’t letting people know the circumstances surrounding the event /decision help ensure the same mistake is not committed by someone else in the future? The committee do an awesome Job organising the events dont get me wrong but I swear on occasions they think their running the PGA.

Bomber…it’s more about respecting the privacy of the people involved. If they want to go into detail, then that is their choice.
Shot more than 36 points in an OOM day….seriously. |

DJ having partnered you up at Bendigo you seem a pretty relaxed sort of a cat and without knowing you personally this is about the response i would have expected. Props to you Bud. Shows class.

Fair enough Goldy, There are 5,692 bloody rules that govern this game and believe it or not, not all of us are across every bloody one of them yet. I was more of the thinking that if there was an opportunity to explain the situation/ruling to everyone it would help everyone with peoples education etc etc and maybe stop some other poor bugger from making the same mistake in a future game. But all good if its all hush then thats the way it is I guess.

All class from DJ as expected, but I hope he at least threw a club/kicked a cat/ran over someone in the car park to let off a bit of steam. Otherwise with all that built up his next LD victory will be 400 yards plus ;)

Basically, DJ made a mistake in the play of a hole and ended up recording a wrong score for that hole. What got him disqualified was returning a signed card with the wrong score. His marker should have stopped that from happening, but didn’t. If any player has any doubts about what score should be recorded for whatever happended on a hole, they should get it clarified BEFORE returning their score card. I’m somewhat amazed at how poorly many of you recorded results on the cards. The layout is quite straightforward – the results either go across the page or down the page, depending on design. Yet many couldn’t manage to write the putts or points into the right spots and too many were too lazy to add them up and write the totals at the top. The player and marker signatures verify that the hole by hole scores for the ‘Player’ are precise. If any are wrong, the player is disqualified. While all the other stuff is the committee’s problem, it would greatly assist us if you could simply write the figures in the right places and add them up at the end. It’s not difficult to do. If you somehow manage to bugger a card completely, or it gets too wet and soggy to decipher, you can transcribe the figures onto a new card, both sign it, and hand it in. Please try a bit harder for next time.

the rule breached was a very common simple rule, it was one that we all pretty much tackle most times we play a round of golf. It was not abstract or uncommon. This the reason i think for the correct firm decision made. any person that has an official handicap would know the rule. anyway, prolly time to all move on, its done and dusted one would have thought.

Pretty much ! Definitely the most isolated part of NZ I’ve seen, and I’ve seen a bit. Picked oysters off the rocks. Would love to spend a week there with 10 couples or so just cooking seafood, drinking beer and wines, swimming, some cards. etc

Four days away from civilisation? That’d take careful planning to keep the beer cold. Either powered refrigeration or dry ice.
