Helloooo. I am new to golf and have just moved to WA’s Peel region. Got no handicap as I just started and no club affliation. Seeking any “hackers” out there… nearest courses around my area would be Secret Harbour, Meadow Springs, The Cut, Port Kennedy.

Another damn Sandgroper:-)
A bad day on the golf course is better than no golf at all.

Brett, where are you playing? Is it Kwinana? Dogbert, I’m not really in the area, but always interested in a hit. When are you likely to play?

Rockingham and Bunbury adlo. Brett

I’m a Bunbury GC Country member. How does Rockingham compare? How long does it take to get to the course from Perth?
Hi Hi. Wow! Didn’t realise that I would get a response so quick. Yeah, did look at Bunbury (Sanctuary or Capel?) as I was en route to Margaret River few weeks back. Sanctuary looks tempting as it offers a club plus resort? At the moment, I am looking to play a few games and then look to a club to start keeping track of the handicap. As for my Avatar, well, I kinda look like that in person too… :-) Cheers.

Yeh, I’m country at Bunbury also. frankyb & Battman are both members down there, we hook up as often as possible for a game. Rockingham is probably a bit tougher layout wise and our rough is definitely more penal. Greens are chalk & cheese though, Bunburys are fantastic to putt on, ours are mostly extremely slow and inconsistent. We have a new greenkeeper that is doing a great job, but it is going to take a long time to bring the greens back to as good as they were even as few as 3 or 4 years ago. It’s always worth having a hit around here, slower greens seem to suit some people more than others and for the most part, the course is complimented by visitors more than knocked. It’s only about 40 minutes to Rocko from Perth, depending on where you’re coming from. Basically straight down the freeway, right at Ennis Avenue, right at Elanora Drive and you’re there! If you want to come down for a game one day, drop me a line at the address I mentioned in the earlier post. Scroungers comp on Thursdays is open to other club members all the time and I can usually get a visitor in the Saturday comp without too much trouble as well. Being vice-captain has some perks! Cheers

The Sanctuary is Bunbury GC’s poorer cousin. But shhhh, dont tell anyone…. If you are happy to drive a bit, head to Binningup Golf Course at the new Lakewood shores development between Peel and Bunbury. The 9 hole course has been there for ages and is the best layout in Perth in my (and a few other ppls) opinion. Plus midweek it is very quiet so if you are just starting out you can take as long as you like.

Tougher than Bunbury…. bugger…. I’ll email you Brett, cheers. Bunbury has lovely greens though.
No worries mate. I played at Royal Perth on Sunday and Bunbury’s greens are as good as theirs. Just wish I could transplant them to Rocko. Brett

I agree about Rocko being tougher than Bunbury but it is still an enjoyable course. Personally I don’t like The Sanctuary at all, too short and too much water (in and out of the lakes) but Binningup is an excellent course and was only $11 for 9 or 18 last time I played. Adlo, what days do you play? Patrick

I play Saturdays in Perth. If I come down to Bunbury I normally hit off early Saturday morning with my old man. He has been unable to play lately so my trips to Bunbury have been few and far between unfortunately.

Who is the greenkeeper at Rockingham now? Is it TC?
No mate, TC left in March (from memory). New bloke is Corey Bandy, former 2IC at Wembley. We are very impressed with him so far, in particular his handling of the younger staff. Hopefully, his enthusiam will last a lot longer than TC’s! Brett

Hi all, I was sick all week down with the flu (bronchitic). Drugged out silly. Better now and logged in to see so many posts already. Brett, I emailed you from work, not sure if you got it? Damn IT guys at work blocked a lot of sites (this one) as well as my personal email address (#@!). If not received, I will send you another mail again. Thought of organising a get together for a round if we can all make it? Of course, you might have to bare with a newbie like me self.

Gidday Dogbert, haven’t received any emails from yourself. If you like, ring the pro shop at Rockingham (9592 4033) and leave your contact number with Alan or Kale. I’ll be there at some stage Tuesday, or one of the boys will ring me anyway. We can take it from there. Cheers
Thanks Brett. Will call the pro-shop tomorrow.
