Please humour me here guys.
mrs manU asked me to ask you guys.
What car colours show the most dirt. Or in her mind the least.
I am looking at buying a demo SUV. The colour choices are limited.
One in my sight is mid to dark grey.
I know Black is a no no. And most dark metalics also.

I’d say a silver metalic. I have a dark green metalic (like pine green), but it does show the dust and…................ pidgeon sh!t

My ute is dark blue and is looking grubby the day after a wash so you’re spot on with the dark colours.. Mrs Ditty has a bronze coloured car that always looks clean and never gets a wash…lol Whites and Silvers seem to hold their looks when dirty… goodluck!

The lighter colours are the go Man u. Know it sounds strange , but is also true.

I own a car wash. Darker cars & white cars are the worst for showing dirt.
Silver, bronze & light blue metallics hide dirt wickedly.

We had a white Patrol for years, took it around Australia, into the bush on camping trips, everywhere it could go, and sometimes where it couldn’t :P

The paint made it almost impossible to see the scratches from the tree branches, but you could see the mud no troubles. All it ever needed though was a quick squirt with the hose, the odd polish here and there and all was good.

As for the Patrol itself, 4.8 ST Petrol, I’d buy another tomorrow if I had the cash, highly recommended.

So you bought the car wash – I think you were looking to buy one a while back or was that someone else you were chatting to….

Anyway, all our operational cars are white and seem to hide the dirt well… we only wash them monthly…lol

dark silver grey ( mercury to the wise) is good and my sons white falcon never really shows the dirt either until you start washing it.

Toyota Prado “gold shimmer”, can go months with out a wash and dose not that much better when it gets one

Flush it, chunk it, flush it, chip it, hole it 5 a half!
Flush it, flush it, three putt the half!

i have always had white cars. I have a 07 white forester now and its easy to keep clean. If it gets grimey it shows it abit, but i think white cars are very practical. Anything dark ios terribnle

Think about the heat inside if you are in Perth. My business partner drives a dark green Landcruiser, mine is silver and the differance in temp when you jump in is massive. Takes much longer to cool down as well.
Is your i130 black with Man U 99 plates

Hey Dave – that’s amazing that you record a temperature difference in different coloured cars..

We did a test in Townsville quite a while back with a white and a black falcon – in a car yard – both had thermometers placed on the back seat and after 2 hours both had the same reading…

No the I30 is for my good lady Mrs Manu.
The SUV is for me the manu99 plates are soon to be attached to a Ford Escape RED in colour.
After looking at the demos They were all darkish. I settled on a 2007 escape 12000 on the clock paid $24000 for it. I am happy so no telling me I was robbed;-)). BTW the same cars in Black are actually cheaper than other colours on the 2nd hand market.
One local yard is selling a brand new Black Escape drive away at $28000, 15klm on the clock. Any other colours start at $30000.

Black is the worst without a doubt. I have a Black Fiat Punto, gets washed weekly and even then shows up everything by the end of the week.

Maybe not as great a difference with the humidity in Townsville Ditty. But the with the dry heat we get in Perth you really notice it, the green car has darker tint than the silver one as well.

How do you make the quotes appear in the yellow box???

See the quote button underneath the user details for each post? Well click that for the post you want to quote and it will spew all the code where you write your post.

Should add to my own post that it is the gayest colour, add would rather have the black or charcoal. More of a mans colour. HAHAHA!!

well I never knew that one.Makes it easier to quote small amounts with out any backspacing.

Silver is the colour if you don’t want to see the dirt as much or move into a housing estate that has unlimited recycled water to wash your car as much as you like and you can get a black one! :)

yes you’re probably right – while it gets stinking hot in Townsville the temp doesn’t get much over mid 30’s – you stand under a tree and there’s no relief – dryer climates get hotter (like Melbournes 40+’s) but there’s relief in the shade… didn’t take that into account but see your point!

Mr C,

I had a 1980 nissan patrol a while ago that would have been that colour when new. By the time I had it the colour had faded and was scatched down to a “smokey lemon” tone.

I loved that car and if I won power ball would try and hunt it down.

It had a small truck diesel and gearbox in it and was bullit proof.
