Down the Coast road, head towards Cronulla then to Wollongong and take the MacQuarrie Pass, awsome, so tight and twisty it’ll make your head spin. then on down the Illawarra Hwy and turn right up any mountain road, Kangaroo Valley is the best, but Kings Hwy at Batemans Bay is the ducks guts too… if you want to head further down the coast there are many more options. If you head up kings hwy look for the Braidwood turn off, go through Braidwood towards Canberra, then turn at the Tarago turn off, it takes you back to Goulburn past Lake Bathurst and past Wakefield Park where you can most likely get a ride day if you want, or watch some motor racing. This is the road the NSW Coppers use to train their bike riders…. says it all really.

If you want to really get into some bitching roads head through Queanbeyan to Cooma, then turn left down the Snowy Mtns Hwy, best high speed twisties in Australia. Or Caan River turn left at Cooma and head back towards the Coast.

This is imho some of the best rides in NSW.

The other option is to head north up the old Pacific Hwy towards Gosford, but watch out for the coppers, they tend to haunt it after a few guys died there over the last few years…

Have fun, I envy you….

sorry turn Right down the Snowy Mtns Hwy… not left, it’s just the other side of Cooma on the way to Jindabyne… few years back sat on 200kph along here two up, screwed up a new set of tyres in a weekend… bit had a ball doing it. In summer you turn off at Kiandra and head towards the SMEC past the electric dams, awesome is not enough to describe it…..

take the bells line of road from kurrajong to lithgow – travel on to rydal have a beer and a pie at the old alexander hotel then ride home.. not too many cops on that road either

Head down the old pacific Hwy at Somersby, near the top of Gosford. It runs down to Berowra and is a nice and twisty road. Lots of bends and hills. Has a cafe on it too. Be cafeful down there tho, as mentioned there has been alot of fatals on that road and it gets very busy on weekends. Watch out for the boys in blue.

I’m amazed at you people suggesting that he look out for the coppers while riding his bike through the winding roads – do you expect him to speed or that he would be?

We spend countless dollars in advertising asking idiots to slow down and we even have ads for the cages asking them to be aware of motorbikes.

I’ve been to a few bike fatalities in my time and I can tell you it’s not nice to walk 150 metres down the road and pick up a bikers helmet, that belonged to a young guy who hadn’t even enjoyed his 21st yet, and his head is in it with eyes bulging! Idiots!!

By all means, enjoy the ride and the scenery and the winding roadsTazzie, but ride within the law and be totally aware of surroundings and fools in cars!

How about these guys ride within their abilities, the Law is usually an Ass, and there are times when conditions dictate I ride below the speed limit, and times where conditions dictate I ride above the speed limit… I could say more but what would be the point… if people were allowed to drive/ride to the conditions on the road, taught to drive/ride to the conditions on the road, there would be LESS deaths… miss information and ignorance is what causes deaths, not speed….

3 bad shots and 1 good shot is still a 4….
Golf is played in a very small area, the 6 inches between your ears…

One swing to hit the ball,
one swing to find a score,
One swing you bring to all,
And on the fairway find them.

What would be the point – you seem to know it all – I’ve been riding since 64 and I know the drill – been attending accidents since 69 and seen it all – when it’s close it hurts!

I don’t know it all, but I do know if a rider is taught properly, they are as safe as any car driver… safer in most cases, like I said, it isn’t speed that kills, its ignorance and misinformation.

And how many rider training courses have you taught since 1964?

the law leaves a bit to be desired at times , i ride to the conditions and my skill level and “sometimes” to the letter of the law .

Cliff – why would you be asking me how many rider training courses have I taught – I’ve never taught a rider training course in my life! That’s like me asking you how many mangled bodies have you bagged – I wouldn’t ask!

Bike riders aren’t safe because some car drivers just don’t see them – you with all your experience should know that.

This is the first thing I teach my learners, if you ain’t there, they can’t get you. The next thing I teach them is, there’s no point in being in the right and dead…

This is my whole point, ignorance is what causes deaths, misinformation runs a close second. ie, if you do the speed limit it’s implied that you are safe….

I was watching a bike trainer teaching some learners last weekend, here in Southport. He believed low speed maneuvering was done with a straight left arm, or right arm. When I told him I believed arms should be bent and relaxed (as with any sport) he got very upset. Then he gets on his bike, low speed carpark riding, and guess what, his arms are bent and relaxed. No wonder bike riders are dying by the truck load in Queensland…

Sorry if it seems I get personal, it’s just like you, it makes me cry when I hear of another rider being killed, when I KNOW we can stop it. It just takes some commitment from government, and some real thinking, not just lip service to speed limits… I REALLY HATE it when I hear Pollies and Cops complaining about speed killing some poor kid, once again, like it was his fault, his choice to go out and speed and die… give me a break…. if he/she had been shown properly the consequences of riding beyond their ability, they might have lived.

speed may be a contributory factor ...dont you think ?

even without flipping thru the evidence …this is a pretty common sense assumption
furthermore the good ole adage always holds
ERR on the side of caution

how about
better safe than sorry

visit any brain injury (btw spelled as TBI aka traumatic brain injury) hospital / service and say again speed was NOT a contribution to it !!

yes recklessness n ill informed are partners in crime too

No speed is not a contributing factor. It’s riders/drivers that don’t know their limits… this has nothing to do with speed, it has everything to do with limits…

He crashed on that corner because he was going too fast.

or

He crashed on that corner because he was driving beyond his capability.

The second one makes a lot more sense… the first is a cop out. An easy way to blame the person who just died. The implication is the moron deserved to die because he/she was breaking a (stupid) law….
