Sydney has just hit a new high!

Arrived to experience the offers of the ‘Olympic City’ and was greeted at a Sydney Bar called “The Basement” and passed over $7.10 for a scooner of VB!

This cannot be true?

Anyone else got horror stories about being ripped off at the “tap”.

Thank god I’m leaving Sydney this morning!

must be their own way of combating binge drinking
good to see that they are taking this seriously in light of Tin Tin our fearless leaders stance on this

In Perth the normal for a pint of premium lager(heineken) is $8.30.
The more trendy pubs in the city are a fair bit more. Can’t comment on other beer prices, I only drink pints of heineken.:)

continue handing over money, they will continue putting up the price. If everyone refused to pay that amount the price would have to come down

Was on my Honeymoon in November in Hawaii & was paying $6.70U.S a six – pack of Corona or Stella & $10U.S for a 700ml bottle of Jim beam white…..awsome….Aussie $ was 93 cents so as you can guess I dont remember much of the honeymoon!!
Anyone else played over in the Hawaiin islands??

what was jd going for if you don’t mind me asking

You don't hit anything on your back swing so why rush it!!!!

If you’re in the States, stuff the booze, i hear the Charlie is nice and cheap. Sure it is fairly easy to get in Hawaii, would have been a nice addition to your honeymoon. Got to love those chemical guru’s of South America. If only we weren’t so far away!!!

I can recall paying only US$2.80 in Chicago for a JD… at Streeters Bar near Rush St.

The Barmaid simply kept pouring the spirit and asking..”How’s you day been?” It took me 50 minutes to get through it and it was wonderful.

The again that’s the US for you… service….

In Sydney, they measure the f..ker and do not even smile…..just take your money..that’s not service, but no one in Sydney seems to give a shit!

Now we have our leader on the case of binge drinking….oh please ‘Rudd’s a Dud’, we all cannot be shinning and clean like you Kevin.

Got to give the sepo’s some credit, when it comes to service they are the bomb. Buy heaps of crap online, and when dealing with US business i always get get service, quick responses, and follow up correspondance. While it is just good business pratices, we don’t get much of it here.

agree totally..

Sydney appears to be the biggest offender of the complete act of the “snob”.

Those guys up there are just so full of themselves, then again you wonder why?

is it their mortgage rates sending people tropo there, or it is their fantastic, well designed network of a transportation system that they have?

It certainly is not their golf courses. Except for say 3.. the rest are shit.

I’m bias, I play the sandbelt of Melbourne and enjoy every minute of it.

At around $2 to the pound, you guys would be paying $7 a pint here in the UK in a regular bar. Some of the dearer places would see you into double figures.

The dearest pint I ever had was in Paris. Admittedly it was damn well worth it, but it would’ve been the equivalent of $25 and that was 11 years ago!!!

The biggest rip off I ever heard of was a friend of mine who went to Monacco for the Grand Prix. They blagged their way into one of the top parties and paid £55 for one bottle of heineken!!! A 330 ml bottle.

When he realised how much they had charged him, he tried to give it back!!! No change from a two hundred euro note for two bottles of beer!! The barmen just assumed the change was the tip!

He told me there was a champagne menu and the cheapest bottle was over two thousand euro (regular sized) – he said there were guys spraying each other with magnums. Too much money some people eh?!!

From memory it was around $13 bucks U.S, still a bargain compred to the ass – raping we get here!
Chessman, I have enough troubleknowing when to stop with a good drink, I wouldn’t push it with anything else. Probably wouldn’t go down to well with the wife considering she is a cop!..... not that has stopped others!!

Up in Newman they have just opened a new hotel and beers at the bar there at $9 a pop. I couldn’t work out why the tab was so high until I saw that. Needless to say I drunk water with my meal every other night.

Beer….nice topic.

Prices: slightly different than a pub but when I used to work on the cruise ships, 90 cents (USA) for a Corona, 70 cents (USA) for a Bud/Miller was the price of beer in the staff bar mind you. No tax, duty etc, all at cost basically. If you were a smoker $1.20 (USA) for a packet of 20’s, a bottle of scotch (JWR), $8.00, my favourite…Crown Royale Scotch (700ml) duty free for $12.00 purchased in the duty free shop on the ships.

You are kidding yourself if you think you can make it without hard-work.

Dog shit….that’s expensive…is it the imported stuff or the crap made under “supervision” in WA?

I think it’s made in Australia under licence, as most European beers are regardless of which country you drink in. I think it’s made in Melbourne.
It certainly does not taste like crap:)
