Skins?

We don’t hear too much of skins these days.

Ever play/ed it? I never seem to win, although I’ve only played it a few times.

For a few years running I played for $10 per hole with two mates. We played on handicap, which cost me. I probably lost enough to buy a new set of clubs.

Some of my mates play better in this environment for some reason. No matter what form of golf I play, club championships, skins or whatever, my golf stays the same, i play no better or worse than normal.

It’s also very hard to call rules infringements on mates when you’re playing for money.

Any horror stories out there?

There are two games in one as far as golf is concerned . The first one is stroke play on which most club competitions are based & the type of golf we all play.
The second is matchplay which is man on man hole by hole play . this is a totally different game with different pressures to it,
the different types of play appeal to different types of player, maybe you are not suited to matchplay golf. One of our best A grade players (h,cap of 3) cannot play match play for peanuts , Personally I find it hard to concentrate for 18 holes of stroke play (h,cap of 16 shows that. However in matchplay 1 on 1 my win record is about 7 out of 10, matchplay suites me & enjoy playing it more than stroke play.
one pro I spoke to told me a good matchplayer needs a bit of mongrel about him, maybe thats why it suites me.

A bad day on the golf course is better than no golf at all. :(
