You know, I’ve been shooting guns since I was six and I can’t remember any time I have ever been pissed while shooting a gun. Cleaning one, yea, I’ve been pissed at it, but never while shooting it.

Used to own guns befote the laws changed,can,t say I really miss having them. Do know this though. Guns & young children do not belong in the same house.

Sorry racinfarmer I have to dissagree. I have 6 years as a professional soldier in the Australian army and I have seen enough unintentional discharges to keep guns away from my family for good.

• every time you load your rifle (chamber a round) the firing pin ‘hits’ the back of the round, that’s why the military has a SOP of rotating rounds in a magazine
• do this enough times to a round and it has a very high chance of discharging even without the trigger being pulled
• safety catches are not %100, it’s mechanical and will eventually break down (I’ve seen rifles discharge when bumped)
• most automatic rifles are self perpetuating, what I mean is the gas produced by the first round forces the firing pin back ready for the next, if there is an accidental discharge there a possibility it could fire more than one round
• also, kids don’t understand the dangers (sorry but especially a 6yr old)
• finally, no guns = no shootings

The irony is while people worry and fret about home invasions etc and wield there weapons saying “it’s my right to bare arms and defend my home” the world will never be safe.

By the way, the world is full of old laws which were created for the times. For example, the USA have the right to bare arms. This law was introduced during the civil war as a way to protect themselves from an invading force, where is the invading force now? Terrorists don’t count IMO…

Brett, I see your point and respect it, but…

How many responcible gun owners do you know that keep loaded guns? I’ll admit, I have a couple rifle clips loaded and ready to use, but they aren’t in the guns nor are kept in the same safe as the guns. All my guns are stored with the action open so there is no bullet in the chamber. They are stored in a locked safe and only my wife and I know the combo. When they are handled, the action is open and there is no ammo or clips in the gun. You could drop them off the Sears Towers and they wouldn’t go off.

I can’t speak up for others who handle their guns differently. All I can is there is a theory Darwin came up with.

As to invading forces. They are burglers, rapists, murderers, vandels, etc.

I guess this is a time where the saying ‘its a free world’ applies. I can’t change your mind and v’versa.

I just hope that you don’t get lazy one day and forget to clear the weapong before handling it.

For me, I hope a gang of sex crazed phsyco’s don’t want their wicked ways with me. lol!

As a child i found myself in the firing line of a responsible gun owner having a bad day, his wife had left him and taken his children and he made a decision under the influence of alcohol to correct the situation.
As long as i live i will never forget the terror i felt that day . its only now that I’m in my 30s that i can sometimes go a whole day without thinking about it.

So many lives ruined forever.

One thing that makes me proud as an Australian is the Way the Port Arthur massacre shocked us and the way we reacted to it as a nation.

What will it take to shock the Americans into action? How many more children will have their heads blown off at school and in their own homes?

I know the power the gun lobby holds is huge but i still simply cant understand how Americans tolerate it.
