Should I get rid of the Pay TV?

Pretty self explanitory, really. We hooked up when Austar was running their 'no lock-in contract' promotion, and for the first few months I was right into it, watching all the golf and other goodies on there. But then my enthusiasm wained, but I insisted on keeping it to watch the masters. Well, after that debacle, I'm seriously considering chucking in the Pay and just getting a set top box. Most of the stuff I religiously watch is on regular TV anyways (Top Gear, Iron Chef, Mythbusters).

Whaddaya reckon?

if you get rid of pay you might as well get rid of the box! free to air is a poor joke.

putt,putt,putt,pftt.

Only if you are a fan of BB or BiggestFattestLoserKnut et al.

Good question Colin

I think it all depends if you have the IQ box or not. I've got it so I just record all the decent stuff during the day, clashes at night and can zip through the 50 million commercials every 10 mins by fast forwarding. I'd miss espn but I can now get all the live sport that I'm into on the net (bar Golf). I'm also keeping it for the big reason that if I do get rid of it the missus will be watching damn Brother all the friggin time.

Keep it! you'll only kick yourself when you want to get it back again and have to pay a connection/ sign into a contract

Crazy - I haven't watched free-to-air in years. Pay TV is the only way to go. If you can;t find anything to watch and then you're very hard to please smile.gif

I got rid of foxtel 2 months ago and I have regreted that decision every single day. I especially miss my weekly fix of the pga, european and asian tours.

Colin make a decision for yourself you spineless little fraction of a man

I don't have it and never have had it and wish I did! Free to air is an absolute joke, every entire thing is American. I'm sure thats an issue on Fox but I could cope with watching all that sport you get.

Keep it - I had pay tv for free for 6 years and loved it. I haven't had it for the last 12 months and miss it; although I don't know how I had the time to watch it.

the house we are building has a pay tv point and cabling to the roof specified - just have to wait until the thing is built.

Since switching to Austar - the only thing I watch back on FTA is some of the Sport shown on it...keep it I say !!

Just think of the golf, and the Pga Golf Show.!!!!
Pay TV, is "GOOD"!!!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

The irony with your post (and avatar) is that since having Pay TV, I've made an effort to watch as much Family Guy as possible. It's basically the reason that I bargained with the missus to keep the "Escape" package as well as the sport.. that and Girls of the Playboy Mansion.

Keep the payTV

"Deadliest Catch" anyone ?

I had foxtel for awhile and really got sick of it, the same shows seemed to be repeating all the time, and most shows I liked were or have been on fta.

Admittedly I don't watch much tv, but I havn't regretted getting rid of it.

is all/most of the golf on the same channel included in the basic foxtel package?

If you believe your TV viewing will rarely go above a couple of hours a week, once or twice max.

If you do however watch some TV a few days per week, you will feel like your arm has been chopped off.

Quite often, there is little to choose from and we watch a few things on FTA. But that choice is the bonus of having both. Anytime I'm away at a place without PAY, it is hell.

Nah - the sports package (Fox1,2,3 and ESPN) is $15 extra. Our bill at the moment with the Sports, kids channels and the MTV/VH1 stuff is $70 a month, which does not sit well with the missus (and me too)

We bought a hard drive/DVD recorder when we hooked the paytv up - Tivo is an actual unit, isn't it?

I'm with you on Deadliest Catch, though - I think, worst case scenario at the moment we'll drop the extra packages - I could live on Discovery and Nat Geo smile.gif
