Where have all the good threads gone?

I feel that the last few weeks have not been ISG's best.

No really good stouches, name calling, intersting course reviews, etc

Instead, we have to settle with Jack posting pics of TV soapy chicks (not entirely a bad thing mind you)

Can someone start something interesting please? If i had the ability, I would do it...but as you know...I have nothing sad.gif

Lift your game ISG

I only post here when the other site gets quiet...

How about you start one?

See - there's the problem right there.

You have run out of new topics to make a dick of yourself over and are simply repeating yourself.

What ISG needs is a new muppet.

Beware of cheap imitations - Especially from the US

All I can suggestis another Top 10 thread...but then again how can you top perfection.

Jack starts plenty of interesting threads (as per his signature) - it's just that I delete most of them.

aint that the truth...

(there should be a "sealed section" of ISG for my many fans to read them.)

I've asked before, I'll ask again...on behalf of ISG newbies, where can I find this infamous Top 10 thread...or has it been sealed by the powers-that-be?

Can we vote MrDennis out of ISG?

Mate - It's not that hard to find. It's one of the bigger ones.

(And don't let the start of it give you the wrong impression)

I think the good stuff starts about page 150'ish from memory...

Problem Mr D is that a good post is likely to be a controversial post and anything controversial draws a complaint from a timid soul and the post gets deleted.

If you look at the most popular posts they tend not to be interesting, they tend to be along the lines of
..."is Brand A ball better than Brand B" or something as fascinating as "what do you think of the new Blah Blah driver" which releases a huge amount of commercial advertising in the disguise of discussion - none of which has the slightest relevance to the improvement of ones game since the best players in the game could play with a K Mart 7 iron and a driving range ball and whip the pants of all of us.

The other gem is the "How did you play today" theme which seems to draw endless replies of little interest to anyone - but posters get a chance to tell us what they did at the course today. Nobody reads what the other players have written, or cares, but the thread blossoms on the egos of those posting regularly.

In the meantime golf is slowly choking due to changing lifestyles, a non existent global structure and a lack of water but these draw little interest as topics.

As many of you will know, I am involved in Pitch and Putt - golfs little brother, and am a Board Member of the international body controlling the sport, FIPPA.

If you want an interesting little post, perhaps readers might like to discuss the one thing that drives me nuts about golf, and which I think is the single most destructive influence on golf - the Amateur system.

Because Pitch and Putt is a golf sport we follow golfs amateur rules, generally, because many of our players play both sports and it is the easier path to take. (we do however have our own distinct rule book for the sport)

In my opinion the Amateur status rules are a farce and choke golf.

There are a few things to consider...

a) if a player wants to play professionally for a living, that is one thing. There are ways of registering a player for such a situation, as happens now.

b ) but if the rest of us want to play in an event which is offering a first prize of $10,000 cash for amateurs why cant we? Winning such an event does not mean I want to play for a living, it just means I would like the chance to win an event offering a $10,000 first prize.
$10,000 is not likely to cause any of us to give up our day jobs, so we are not being "professional".

c) of course, none of this applies to handicap based events. I personally dont think anyone should offer any sort of big prize for a handicap based event, but its a free country. If someone is stupid enough to offer money for an event based on handicaps they deserve all the cheats they will attract.

We live in a world where nearly all amateur sports of the last century allow athletes to play for money, but not golf. Why the hang up in golf?

Thanks - I'm off to page 150 and won't be back for sometime???

that top 10 is gold...

Pandpoz - interesting theories, but the answer is simple.

Good posts come from a precious few. These names change from subject to subject, but generally speaking if you can see the name of someone you think knows their arsehole from their ear in a thread, you might pay attention.

Other forums such as rules threads are probably interesting, but so bloody intricate because you get golf nerds turning it into a pissing contest of who know what rule better - not the execution of, but the wording.

So it's a personal thing. I have no interest in the latest equipment chatter, because frankly i can't see the benefit from on minute to the next when a new driver is released (sort of rules out the Classifieds too). Cashy's thread is totally self indulgent. Rules, as above, and Complaints / Suggestions are often made but rarely taken on board.

That leaves the Lounge which is a good source of pervy material and distractions from work, some golf talk (not a lot, prefer to play than talk about it), the Favourite course thread (until Andrew or Tithers post a novel) and Sport.

Enjoy.

What about, if we get some of the popular characters here like Judgesmails, Postie, Fishman Dan etc. To start a question and answer thread about themselves, a little getting to know you exercise, where we ask them questions about themselves, and they have to answer!! biggrin.gif

I think that ISG probably knows just a little too much about Judgesmails as it is.

This I've never considered before...playing for money.

That said, I'm shooting from the hip here, because I've got a ton to do today (wife's cracking the whip about her birthday party tonight and the kids are on fire...)

First question ($%#@ the wifes' home...have to be quick)...

What is the entry requirement - entry fee of $500, first 120 to register are the field? More questions later...

Some of us are newcomers to ISG, so these possible threads might have taken place. Anyone who wants to run with one, please feel free...
