I don’t know why these kinds of issues are even being discussed on here whats the point? Majority of golfers are white middle class and have a strong conservative bias.

PING NUT

Even if that were true, I can’t see your point at all. It’s quite clear that the members of this site have disparate points of view and are (in general) managing to have a civilised discussion. When they do actually make you the arbiter of what we should/should not discuss, please let me know. Until then .

you’ve told us that your opinion is that we shouldn’t be discussing this, others have requested further information as to the basis of that opinion, so far I see nothing wrong with that and Simonsez certainly hasn’t said you can’t have an opinion …

Have you come here to play Jesus, with the leopards in your head

Ok.

Zen: I watch a bit of NITV and at times it seems that every 2nd show they have is something to do with just how badly Aborigines have been treated in the past.My feeling is that they, and you ,need to move past this if any progress is ever to be made.At present they remind of the Muslims, where it alleged that 50% of their university graduates are involved in studying the Koran. They aren’t moving forward and neither are the Aborigines, because too much time and energy is being expended on something which is essentially unproductive.

Funny you mentioned that TVProgram. I switched over to that Channel last night and watched a documentary on Palm Island Aboriginal Community around the early 1960’s (not sure the year but it looked that way to me). Anyway it was shot during the Era of the Protection Legislation before the Qlders Gov Aborigines’ Act of 1971.
It was of interest to me seeing old faces and hearing old names in an earlier time to my residency on Palms. In my time, family structures had broken down through alcohol with intense political rivalries between families. Bit of a nightmare really and all happening on an island paradise just off the Queensland coast in the Great Barrier Reef.

Totally ignorant about almost everything except golf.

Wolfe,
Not sure on what book your talking about, although the journal,I quoted from was written of the what really went on. ...

What journal are you quoting from Zen?

The artist formerly known as Hermit from Hermit Park.
Slightly wounded and living in Forest Gardens near Cairns.

The name is The Brutal Truth: What happened in the Gulf country, written by Tony Roberts.
It would appear that Zen has his own version, however.

Show up, keep up, shut up.

Wolfe,
You welcome to come to my home and find this so called book you are talking about. How dare you falsely accuse me of quoting a book I have not even got nor read or even seen.
My great grand father was out there and he passed down the journal through the family, might I add he also became a school teacher and had a photographic memory.

In addition you need to learn to re read my posts as well, I DID not say the government in the 1950’s and 1960’s due to WA govt policy of trying to kill off a whole race, as was the crux of the issue from the start. I SAID I should have elaborated in 30’s,40’s and 50’s there was still shootings out there by pastoralist and others, the government did nothing about it.

Believe what you like about the 50’s I couldn’t care less, I lived out there in WA and knew people and family who were there during these times.

PLEASE don’t tell me the government never knew about nor the Police. They turned a blind eye to it and not much they could do either. No there was no mascres but there was still Aboriginals that did get shot. Next your going to tell Police have never been corrupt either.
There was a grey area about stealing stock, defending yourself under the firearms act etc. All a pastoralist had to cry any of these and nothing is done nor questioned.
I know some one who shot an intruder all he had to say is I feared for my life, he never did time for it. Just like the station owners did and done , there is other grey areas.

It’s a bit hard to argue what happened when the other person is dead. Then you have a worker or whoever to back your story. It then just got swept under the carpet back then. Different story today though.

So please don’t tell me what happened out there where I was born and raised on the land.
I put forward of what I knew happened from living out there and others who experienced I knew.

Without wishing to trivialise this, i dont see how the discussion over land rights is any different to those on the wrong end of one of Alexander the Greats battles. The pioneers came nd they conquered, nothing malevalnt or personal, it was empire building, fairly common theme in the history of the world.

Alot of BS has been rammed own our collective throats coz it was politically savvy to do so. Ive had enough of it and tbh i have much more sympathy for the helpless children of the 50s and 60s and the atrocities handed out in orphanges and boys homes….land rights pfffffft

More tigerish than a wounded TIGER

People may not like having the welcome rammed down their throat and they may think the whole land rights thing is a joke. However you do have to admire the adaptability (tenacity) of the traditional owners in using the white fellas own justice system etc to re-establish status and recognition.

Very amusing.

My great grand father was out there and he passed down the journal through the family …

So Zen, this journal you quoted from, was it written, does it has a name and was it ever published?

Truth is important even if it hurts sometimes

Forest,
Let me give you some good old fashion Australian values.
How it rolls out in the bush all you have is your word, no signing papers none of that non sense. You give your word to some one and it is gospel, you break your word you lose respect, for not being a man of your word and your not to be trusted by the community. Once you lose respect your name is mud. At best to seal a deal is a good old hand shake.
If I say he had a journal, he had a journal written, what i quoted was what was written. To write about a chain events you seen in your life, why is there a need for any one to lie. His journal is one of who knows how many never published about their lives out bush. Families have them they are passed down to the next generation. My great grand fathers and my grandfathers was passed down and so will my fathers in years to come.
I put forward what my family knew and others out there knew, from what they seen and their families passed onto them.

Directness is a good old fashioned Australian value. I’d quite like a straight answer to a straight question if it is all the same to you.

If I say he had a journal, he had a journal written, what i quoted was what was written.

Ok, so it was written. One down. Two to go.

Does the journal have a name? Was it published?

How about re-read the post your questions were answered. My great grand father’s name as you can gather I wish to keep anonymous.

So it was a written journal which does not have a name (although plainly its author did) and has not been published.

No Zen, your words are entirely your own as are your reasons for failing to give a straight answer to a straight question.

I’d hate to see this get to the stage where we start doubting each other’s word too much to no good purpose.
Zen, you obviously feel strongly about this topic but I think we both know there’ll be no solutions, in our lifetimes at least.

Whilst we’re discussing Aborigines, other than Scott Gardiner I really don’t know of many Aborigines who actually play golf.
Have you ever thought of running some sessions for them to see if we have any undiscovered talent?
The thread is so far off topic that I thought I’d just ask you here fwiw.

Queensland Indigenous golf Championship is held in March each year at Murgon Golf Club. These blokes are pretty serious about their golf. Some of them may be members of this forum.

Totally ignorant about almost everything except golf.

Simon,
There is the Indigenous Golf Advisory Board which formed in 2007. I think Golf Australia has allocated over not sure if it was $400,000 or $500,000 to Indigenous communities in all states and territories.
I think there is a Professional for each state travels around intorducing golf to communities. I know N.T pay a guy full time to do this not sure about the other states though.
Each year they hold an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Golf Championship, 284 I think won last year don’t quote me on that. I think thats what one of my juniors from N.T said one it.

I use to coach a few in N.T they were on single figures. Turned out good kids now working etc , don’t drink, don’t smoke etc. So proud of them.

Good on you for that Zen.I’ve actually seen the Indigenous Champs on NITV , just haven’t actually seen any Aboriginals on a course myself since 1965 in Dubbo.

I’ve never heard of oral histories being anything other than 100% accurate.
