On a similar note, turfers, how much trouble would it be, or is it, to paint the hole after you boys put the pin cup in. I reckon it psychologically makes the hole look bigger, and makes you putt better.

Put the paint guard around the hole, spray, put flag in done. The time it took you to read the first sentence is as long as it takes to do the task. We paint ours for monthly medal rounds, clubbos or any zone day for the oxygen thieves. Better presentation for everyone. On a side note, I agree it makes the hole look bigger, that’s why I paint the tip white….....and I do sink it better for sure.

Drives around the place like a lunatic
Is prone to uncontrollable anger outbursts
Lies about anything and everything
Has 2 warning letters from the Board for work issues
Has 2 warning letters from the Board about membership issues
And should of been knocked out on the 17th green after one totally out of order comment…...........

I play early on Monday morning and usually catch one or two hole changes, it always surprises me how fast it is done and how good the surface repair is on the old position. Good green keepers deserve double pay.

Yes we do deserve double pay, for sure. Maybe clubs should pay committee members also, that way they could be sacked or terminated or retrenched or gotten rid of for not doing the job properly. Save a lot of green keepers a lot of stress if this was the case.

Is the life of a greens super at any one course 10 years. Does their performance drop off after that period? Not stirring, it is a valid question.

That’s a pretty broad question. I did 5 years, resigned, was offered my role back after two years and just completed 5 years again. I know of at least 6 that have done 20 years in a row. I guess you have to tolerate a lot of change in personnel and committees.
If they are upmarket clubs you will probably find the super will hang around, smaller low end clubs will be revolving doors as wages, conditions is always an issue.
Sme clubs pay award rates others negotiate top salarys. At the end of the day, the members pay our wage and if we not performing then that’s when the trouble starts.
We have a lot of variables to deal with. As I told one bloke , you go to work turn your computer on doesn’t matter what the weathers doing you get your job done no fuss.
We are out there in all weather types trying to produce a product that visitors, members will enjoy and appreciate.
I guess the members are the ones who can judge if the super isn’t doin his job. It gets so frustrating at times but you have to have a passion to do the job.
I still have the passion and hopefully that comes through in my work output.
We are trade qualified and our occupation can be terminated by a group of unqualified opinionated volunteers. Is that fair?? I will leave that up to the readers. Hope this answers your q raz

I guess it is fair if they are the legal representative of the owner and employer. The 10 year used by date was brought to my attention by a course designer. It has certainly been the case at some of the clubs where I have enjoyed membership. It doesn’t only apply to your trade but most jobs, I would have thought. The shine of a workplace tends to wear off after 10 years for most people. I know it does for yarnmeister.:)
