The design of many of the greens are too penal and won’t hold in a following wind. Ross Watson must hate golfers or had a warped sense of humour when he designed some of those holes. It blew a gale today, I came in sand and wind blasted. :)

I think it’s the 15th, it’s a doozey

Tift eagle is an ugly colour. I wonder if it was named eagle because it resembles the colour and texture of eagle feathers. It is one grainy grass and extremely difficult to read. One needs 20/15 vision to read Watson’s greens or play them every week.
Turfers, PH changed their nines ( 18 months back?). That horror par 3, the old 17th, is now the 8th. The 15th is that tricky par-4 before the par- 3 water carry with the two tiers side on. Now that’s weird.:)

Haven’t played there for a few years. Tiffeagle is a finer leaf than Tifdwarf, and it requires a lot more maitenance ie grooming, dusting, light regular fert apps.
Doesn’t make sense to switch nines to me, maybe to reduce noise for the neighbours but that’s about it.

Good start for Wantima Div 2 pennants team today. We took all five matches against Pine River (home of kaa kaarr boy, Bump and some crap greenskeeper, iturfers) for a 10 points to Nil win. Long way to go though.

By the way , turfers, you are getting big wraps from some people I know. Good work mate.

Average Driving Distance.

Just for fun, and after reading an old post somewhere where someone was getting flamed for stating their average driver distance, I am going to measure mine tomorrow.

I will calculate all distances off the tee, on par 4’s and 5’s, regardless of what club I hit, and average them out.

Sandy will be my verifier, as I am playing with him, at Gailes, Home of the 1955 something Open (Australian maybe)

Hope I can beat 200 meters :-)

Just of note, I will be using Sandy’s old Cleveland 2009 Launcher driver, with a 50gm stiff shaft in it. Thinking of buying it off him.

Ahh, I got lazy. After the first drive I said to Sandy “did you bring your laser”

He said “No”, so I said “How far was that”, and he said, “I dunno about 240 or 250”, and then I said, “Aahh, feck it. This is too hard”

So, I measured one drive, and it was 240 or 250 ( I had 200 to the centre of the 1st green )

so I guess I averaged …........ 245 :-)
