Finally something constructive could happen…. http://www.abc.net.au/news/... Key points Assault weapons: A proposed reinstatement of a ban on military-style assault weapons. A ban took effect in 1994 and lasted 10 years but was not extended because of a lack of political consensus. Seemingly faces an uphill battle in the House of Reps. Background checks: A proposal to require background checks in all gun sales. Such checks are currently required when the seller is a licensed firearms dealer. Private sellers are exempt. Four decrees aim to improve the background check system by facilitating the exchange of information between local authorities and the FBI. High-capacity magazines: A proposal to reinstate a ban on gun clips holding more than 10 rounds. The White House noted such magazines were used in the Connecticut shooting, in a deadly mass shooting at a Colorado movie theatre, and the nation’s worst massacre at Virginia Tech University in 2007, which left 32 dead. Armour-piercing bullets: Manufacturing or importing them, except for military or law enforcement purposes, is illegal, but possessing or transferring them is not. Obama wants Congress to prohibit this too. Gun trafficking: A proposal to close a loophole under which “straw purchasers” – people who pass background checks for the purpose of buying guns for others who are ineligible – can often be prosecuted only for paperwork violations. Gun violence research: Mr Obama is ordering the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention and other agencies to conduct research into the causes of gun violence and how to prevent it. He also wants Congress to appropriate $US10 million to conduct further research, including into the relationship between video games, media images and violence. Safer schools: A proposal to hire up to 1,000 more school resource officers and counsellors. Such officers are police with special training that work in schools. Mental health: A proposal to improve mental health services, so as to identify people with problems early and thus head off “dangerous situations.” A proposed $US15 million program to train teachers and other adults in recognising young people who need help. Another $40 million to ensure that schools work with police and mental health agencies to ensure students with issues are referred to services. Looks like Obama has made a stance

There are two types of people in this world. Those that can extrapolate from incomplete data…. |

I have just watched 5 videos. Strangely enough 4 concerned officers in fear for their or a member of the publics Safety or in one case a police dog. The 5th involved 2 dogs fighting each other in the back of a Ute. cannot see where the safety issue is here apart from the fact that a cop is sending shots into the back of an open steel bodied utility.

Not being a mind reader I cannot vouch for any of the officers thoughts in any of the links. It seems acceptable for officers of 3 nations at least to discharge their weapons to kill a domesticated animal when that animal is exhibiting dangerous behavour. I would assume in all cases it is because the animal represents a threat. I would be unwilling to second guess those involved in any of those situations.

If you come to America, I’ll let you touch one of my guns for free. I’ll even hold your hand in case you get scared.

Oh Racinfarmer, What an ignorant, pathetic excuse for a human being you are!! I am well versed in handling firearms and probably unlike you have actually had to use one on a few occasions, not for fun like you, but because my government required it of me. What frightens me is people like you who trivialise the use of things that have only one use and that is to kill something. The type of weapons that you describe are designed to KILL people. You and your like treat them as if they are toys. Just make sure you stay in the US because you would probably find that civilised people in other countries may not be so understanding of your particular fetish.

And Americans really don’t need a change in Gun Laws…... Oh Please http://www.abc.net.au/news/...
|

That is it? They found two rifles, a hand gun, and a shot gun at the home? I have more than that safely locked away.

Why?

The problem America has re. gun laws and the 2nd amendment is that the amendment didn’t change to reflect the change in society. The 2nd amendment was written so that if a town, city, state or the country itself was under attack, each and every citizen – being duty bound to protect said ‘state’ had a weapon to fight with AS PART OF A MILITIA. Militia; army/fighting force consisting of non-professional soldiers, subjects of a state or citizens of a nation who can be called upon to enter a combat situation. It (2nd amendment) was never intended for citizens to use these arms against other citizens, for any reason except the above mentioned combat situation/s: Had the ‘founding fathers’ fore-seen the problems now occurring – especially mass-shootings, then they may have written it differently…or perhaps not at all! I would suggest that people who violate the amendments are traitors to their country.
