prank gone wrong

The only reason we’re discussing this issue IS because someone killed themslves.
If that never happened no-one would have an issue with that prank call.
You see the difference?

Until such time as someone comes forward and says Joe Bloggs killed themselves in fear of the end of the world/zombie apocalypse, it is common sense prevailing that Julia’s stunt was considered harmless.

Mind you, even if that did happen 99% of people would probably just say Joe Bloggs was clearly swimming in the shallow end of the gene pool and did us all a favour by raising the average global IQ a view points.

Of course I see the difference koiom, and that’s my point.

Nobody mentioned a thing about it until the suicide. After it every do-gooder on earth wants to rant and rave about how radio pranks are a form of bullying, and have no place, and only appeal to the lowest form of people and bla bla bla!!

My point is, if radio pranks are so bad, why hasn’t the end of the world speech been criticized?? Because nobody has killed themselves?? It’s a bit late then isn’t it??
Surely the do-gooders should be carrying on about it as well…. It’s a bit too late to carry on after someone jumps of a bridge cause they think a zombie is gona get them.

I just see a double standard from a lot of people about the whole thing is what I’m getting at.

grooveless, the only way to play golf……

now a ’groove-snob’, and never going back!! :)

Oh, and wasn’t there a lot of Joe Bloggs’ after the “war of the worlds” was aired 70 yrs ago??

Orsen Welles never got dragged through the ringer for that now did he.. ;)

They should dig him up and make him sit through an interview by Tracy Grimshaw as punishment for his sins.

One of the greatest prank calls ever

agree I think sarcasm is the lowest form of whit which is what this type of humour is if you break it down

but the prank didn’t casue you to die nor did it for this person – it was her reaaction to stresses that did

I have said this a few times, suicides are planned in someones mind over a series of events, rarely are they one off’s unless that one off is truly dramatic experience

Golf is only a game…Yeah right who are you kidding?

agree with Dave…...the call was the trigger but no one knows what else this poor woman was going thru’....and sadly we’ll probably never know.
I’m not an authority on the subject but I have had 1st hand experience with a friend taking her own life….after several failed attempts. My point is if they’re serious about doing it, most times they will, you cannot watch them 24/7

Consultancy….if you’re not part of the solution, there’s big bucks to be made prolonging the problem.

there has been some good come out of this at last, it bring back the deceased or cover up what has gone on

but the ausereo network is bring its ads back and the profit from these adds will go into a charity (not sure which charity however they are placing a minimal donation of $500,000 dollars

as i said it wont bring the deceased back, but at least austere is trying to ake amends in one way

cheers

No load of hooey mick, this is correct. Mental health might be your area and this is my area. Now I’m not saying I’m right and I’m not saying the dj’s are guilty in anyway, but saying this suicide was planned is a big call, you actually never said this but you keep referring it to this situation and you may be right. But I do believe if they were asked if this could go to air which would obviously have been rejected unless they were prepared to put their job on the line for a joke, than she would not of done this yet even if she was planning to. She may have been miserable for another month or even a year and she may have found help by then. Negligence has occurred it just depends by whom, but as the dj’s should be trained in this area if the hierarchy have the smarts to know how to cover their own ass the buck may fall on the dj’s.

we cannot cotton wool people 24-7 if anything this underminds a persons attempt to heal mental wounds they are trying to heal….it says “I cant trust you” on the flip side we can be aware and keep the communication open

I too lost a close mate mate my flat mate – he was 26 I was 22 – its small part of why I do what I do – work in couselling – I too have guilts over what happened – still to this day, but I was young and having fun in life, he broke up from his chick….he had been married then divorced and had kids also…

while it forst apeared he killed himslef over her – he had carried many other demons from his early childhood

No one is an expert.

On the prank issue – It may have played a veryy small part in some way – but there as no way they could have seen that coming – no way.

In the need its probabaly an oppurtunity to learn from what happened. The hospital also should be doing its due dilligence to make sure its staff are in a good place mentally

everyone has to do their bit.

suicide kills as many young people in the age bracket of 15-25 as does road deaths…..imgain if we poured the funds into youth workers, school programs for this isseu as we do into road aware programs? imagine.

if I could urge everyone if you see gatekeeper course in your area then i urge you to try and attend, it might save a loved one or even yourslef one day.

Speed cameras aimed at youths with suicidal tendencies aren’t exactly going to fill the state coffers Dave. Then you hear about things like the health minister in qld earmarking a full time mental health care facility for youths for closure in the future and it pretty much confirms the sort of mugs running this country.

Dave,
I think the suicide isn’t the issue at hand. Where I don’t show empathy towards DJ’s is on principles. If they have any Morals, respect or any ethics you would never call a hospital for a prank period. Then this would have never happened in the first place. It may not have prevented what happen long term with the person taking their own life. Although as I said this isn’t the point.
The point is they should never prank call any hospital period.

Now the Dj’s are played out as good samaritans because they are donating money to the family. What a joke that is.
They aren’t being held accountable for their actions. They still breached Australian laws and ethics. If they were any decent human been having morals and respect they would have never had made the prank call to the hospital.

I don’t hold them accountable for the suicide, They are accountable for breaching the Australian law and ethics in commercial media. They should be punished for action . They know the difference between what is right and wrong, they chose to ignore what is right, they knew it was morally ad ethically wrong. They ignored that and did it anyway. I have no empathy for them we all have a choice from right and wrong, they made their choice and with that there is consequences.

I can see what youre saying and asking too

I suspect she would have been vulnarable if another event had occured, he mother is gravely ill too.

we also dont know what happened in her life, most of the research I have read says early childhood life is big indicator in our mental well being in life.

Its probabaly way Scandanavian countries pay early childhood teachers simlar rates to Uni lecturers

Because 2 events occured at the same time we straight away link them!...

I have said all along I dont like this slap stick style radio that takes the micky out of people but there is no way it caused her death….

some good points.

Ethics are borken by the media all of time and radio stations are part of the media bandwagon

the skit if you like was pased through management – they should have known

these 2 DJ’s had only just started their careers, and you know what its like when you start something, youre a bit green around the gills, full of enthusiasm and you kind of wanting to impress the boss….

the boss (radio managment) should be the ones scolded in my opinion.

but not blame.

Look work in couselling and Im not aware of every peice of legislation that pertains to my work (hey Im aware of most of it).....you cant know everything

yeah – no taxes to be raised!

in some ways if we worked harder on mental health this would also saving lives on the roads too – many accidents occur when people are tired and burnt out or stressed!

As the djs have said they never thought they would get past first base and nor should they have. The hospital should be looking inward not outward IF they want to be realistic.

There’s many a slip ’tween a cup and a lip.

As the djs have said they never thought they would get past first base

That was just an excuse to offset any blame. If they really felt that way, they should have hung up. And with all the tears, you’d think THEY were the victims.

Let’s see what the suicide note says. There’s more to this story to come out.

Bernie,

True they are accountable as well. Although DJ are still passing the buck and not taking accountability for their actions. To pass the buck and say we never thought it would pass first base is a cop out. There is no excuses for their actions. Any decent human beens who have Morals, Respect and ethics simply wouldn’t make a prank call to any Hospital.
People are up in arms on the principles that DJ lacked Ethics, morals and respect. In general though the public is sick of this type of behaviour. What happen gave the public an excuse to be able to bure up say something about it.

By us making allowances and letting this slide, what message does this give society ? It’s saying it’s ok for this type of behaviour , it’s acceptable and you won’t be held accountable for their actions. It throws the ethics, morals and respect for people out the window. It’s not acceptable at all.

They are coping it sweet and rightly so. There’s is no excuses for their behaviour, you commit the crime you do the time.
