My assumption is that the radio hosts were expecting to say “hello, this is the Queen” and then get hung up on, that would have been the laugh they were banking on.
I know it is none of you high brow blokes, me included who listen to commercial radio, but there are a lower class of citizen that thought a phone call to a royal hospital would be amusing.

For the nurse to feel that she needed to take her life as a consequence is without doubt utterly shameful as a society.

Russell Brand became dirt in my eyes from that moment forward.

Brand is a total dickhead and not just for that prank.

If Australia was a republic this would never have happened.

RIP nurse, big compensation for this family.Sad and no excuse for calling a place where it`s Life & Death 24 hours a day, like a Royal Hospital staff under huge pressure 24/7.How pathetic worse than Dodi /Dianna saga.

Absolutely tragic turn of events but you’d have to think there was a bit more going on in the poor nurse’s life than anyone will ever really know. The intended humour may not be your cup of tea but you have to remember that most people on here aren’t in the radio station’s target demographic, let alone the radio show’s target demographic. At the end of the day it’s a devastating loss and a very timely reminder for all of us that our actions can have extreme consequences, so we should always think twice as to how the things we say and do will affect the people around us.

Yes, this is a very tragic series of events.

very sad

One has to ask why there wasn’t a private line installed and the number kept private for the family. Proper management of their privacy and the situation could not have occurred.

I agree – I work with people who are suicidal (drug and alcohol counseling)

People rarely suicide over 1 single event. We dont know but there is more to her story

Its sad but the 2 radio dj’s didnt cause her death!

Its incredibly sad but she chose to take her life!

Golf is only a game…Yeah right who are you kidding?

One little innocent phone call vs years of being harassed by the media and paps. Get real.

Clearly the nurse was unstable to take her life over such a frivolous thing.

Was the nurse unstable to take her life over a frivolous thing??? We don’t know her history and its possible that the phone call and following fall out was too much for her this time, maybe another time she would have been fine.

I’m with danz.

Surely we can and should take ownership of our own choices and decisions? Not everyone carries a placard stating they are of unsound mental disposition and please be sensitive to them? Not knowing the poor girl and what had led to her ultimate decision, I think that it’s a little unfair to completely blame the DJs as I don’t think anyone would have imagined a) them getting through and b) resulting in death.

Sure, if someone drives down the wrong side of the road and caused death, ignored safety procedures, shook a baby etc could be held accountable – as the consequences of those actions have well documented lethal outcomes. Prank call causing death by suicide, you’d chalk that down as a rare occurrence.

Just a set if unfortunate circumstances.

All she did was transfer the call. A case of bad judgement maybe, but to kill yourself over it (?)... geez!

What appears to be a trivial matter to someone may be devasting or insurmountable to another, this is a recognised cause of one of the triggers for someone with depression to attempt or consider suicide. The radio prank call was not expected to get through but it did, the nurse in question under normal circumstances may have laughed it off and moved on, but without knowing her history one can only assume that it is possible that this one incident was enough for her to take the choice she did. There is still people around who tell those suffering depression to snap out of it and wake up.

You may be right tochakka – but you never know what would be considered the last straw. A mate’s brother killed himself a few years back and his suicide note read that seeing his brother’s progress in life highlighted how his wasn’t progressing. At the time this mate had just gotten married.

True these are different scenarios and if the nurse was perched as precariously on the brink, any given catalyst may have given rise to the final decision.

I never think these pranks as they call them are funny, you never know how it will affect ppl. Over 30 years ago I was being targeted by prank calls, being of sound mind with no other problems at the time I know how I wanted to treat the idiots that thought it funny.

With this lady being Indian, she had probably been subjected to the caste system, getting a job working at a hospital responsible for ROYALTY it would have been the pinicle of her life. this mistake she made would have been devastating for her and would possibly be all that was required to set her off.

We don’t know and to continue saying she overreacted is insensitive to say the least. We are all different, we have no idea how something we could ignore could affect others.

These calls have no place. the idiots that make them should be pilloried.

The call was extremely tame compared to what other shock jock’s have done in the past. To put all the blame on the DJ’s/2Day FM is ridiculous. You can’t say anything to anybody these days without someone either complaining or in this case topping themself. Companies are also shit scared of any backlash from social media. Nanny state to the max.

I guess if “the average person” is not offended by a remark or action then it’s safe to say any reaction to that remark or action that is within the norm is acceptable. Would ” the average person” react in a similar manner to the nurse? Maybe ” the average person” would not consider self harm but would they feel embarrassed and try and lay low for a while…...

I am a Registered Nurse and worked in England for 3 years. Patient confidentiality is drummed into us very early in the training. This poor lady breached that trust to a member of the Royal family, and the world heard about it, obviously devastating for her.

Well.. I’m over this side of the pond at the moment, and I’m a little embarassed by the bashing these DJ’s are getting at the moment.

It’s unfortunate but I really fail to see how the DJs should be found culpable and at complete fault for this suicide. I haven’t read the last few pages just the ones on here but I seem to agree with what Danz and Ghetto have written.

I have also a different take on all of this

If this nurse was so unstable one can and should be asking why didnt her supervisors pick up on it? we are talking a hospital of all places that should be aware of how their staff are travelling

Now that said we dont always know whats going with this porr girl but YOu cannot under any circumstances blame

OK scenerio for you?

you have mate who likes a beer of three – you and him get on the slurps and your in a bar and he thinks hes chacne with some drop dead hottie at the bar

You go to him “mate if you lost 20 pounds and won lotto you still be no chance”...LOL you have a laugh and nothing happens…..beer on!!

he goes home you go home – all good

he commits suicide – You are shattered?

BUT there is now way in hell is it your fault because you said ””mate if you lost 20 pounds and won lotto you still be no chance”...LOL You had probably said it many times to your best mate….

I suspect your mate would have many unresolved demons

the comment wasnt the “last straw”

most and when I say most suicides are quite well planned, usually in quite a bit of detail. Not always written but often in their own mind. I do suicide assessments on clients all week and the main question we ask is what plan do you have (dont frett – talking about suicide doesnt make peopel do it! – biggest myth out there)

just like a prank silly phone call make some take their own life either

Im not big on listening to those prank call radio stations – its not my thing…..BUt the media outrage and social media exsplosion directed at these two young people is simplywrong and totally unfounded and WITHOUT FACT!!

its very sad but only one person is to blame, sadly in todays media driven world we want to blame someone when something tragic happens? its our culture…blame the junk food we eatfor making us fat instead of the person scoffing the burger down applies here.

Now if these radio station DJ’s had rung 50 times over 3 weeks hounding the person – in like a bullying type process then thats totally different. – that didnt happen.

Golf is only a game…Yeah right who are you kidding?

Smergs i hear what ya saying and what ghetto etc is saying as well…

i think its something we will never know what really caused this woman to suicide.. i think this was just the thing tip her over the edge…

the thing is with every prank you make, crikey’s i have made a few pranks over the years but there isd always a consequence to the prank..

we are not 100% certain the woman is dead becuase of the prank but the prank itself cuased by the australian djs could have just been the icing on the cake

i do believe it was a prank that went sour in the end

The hospital itself has more to answer for then the dj’s themselves

what checks did the hospital put in place for the royals. i would have imagined after 9/11 strict security would have been put in place where the royals are with phone calls screen with private number for the royal family to contact kate and William

it is an embaressment for the australian djs but more of a humiliation and embaressment of the hospital itself and i think the hospital itself has to be somewhat accountable for their actions

I agree oz, I don’t think the prank was clever but as they were dealing with a royal the hospital certainly did not have good enough protocol to prevent this.

I don’t agree with the rubbish the two djs are getting as the station through its legal department gave the thumbs up for it. Not only has the poor nurses family been devestated but the two presenters are now going through hell.

This is a case of the hospital and the radio station covering their backsides and not taking adequate responsibility. The whole idea of involving the legal department was to ensure they were breaking no laws but what they did is actually against the law in the UK, soliciting information by giving a false name is now a criminal offence, so what use is the radio stations legal department.
