By better do you mean older?

Not always older bump, but some are a tad young, just better suited to represent us, people with real life experience.

I will break 90 this year.

It is NOT my age.

It is NOT for 9

Once again I am the reserve moderator ( officially unofficial ) after stink if he decides to come back.

Have you ever considered Olympic diving, the amount of backflips you do is remarkable. Pointless discussing anything with you.

Wow you are funny, sometimes it’s easier to change your mind and argue the opposite, always gets it moving. My original contention that they are overpaid and under qualified is where I will always stand.

I keep changing my mind because I want to feel what it is like to be a Polititian.

what about them being able to represent their constituents of a similar age?
What about my “us” I am not the same “us” as you are.
We exist and vote and deserve someone who can speak for us, not just the old fuddy-duddies who had been Union Laywers straight after coming out of University

Senator Doug Cameron or Bob Carr for example may have had a lot of life experience, but they in no way reflect or possibly understands my point of view as someone under 30 years of age

Have you come here to play Jesus, with the leopards in your head

Those are the ones we do not want, I agree with you. It is possible to be of the younger generation, whatever age you want to determine that is and have good life experience. Union lawyers etc are possibly the worst ppl we could have representing us as they are too set in their opinions.

Your us is definately different to my us as we are of a different generation, but I would hope that we both want a stable life, good employment prospects and a surplus of cash that allows us to fulfill our obligations and dreams. My beef with politians is that most of them now are Carear ppl never considering any other employment and never having been employed in the private sector in any position other than legal. Whilst we need legal minds to sort some aspects of our society I think the preponderance of ex legals in our political system is part of the problem.

I have known many under 30s during my lifetime that would have made excellent public representatives, all of them working in management positions in high energy jobs, but it is difficult to persuade them to move into politics.

Gee I wonder why. Thanks for making my argument for me.

Nothing to do with money just the bull dust involved with being a pollie. They were straight talking ppl no lies no crap.

Howard, no gst, Gillard no carbon tax to name 2 of thousands of out and out lies.

I had one relative, went into local politics in the UK so I know how much crap is talked by them.

Sure tol, your experience of one politician in the UK is indicative of how all politicians operate. Furthermore it is the reason why most people that you judge to have “real” or “life” experience decline to serve the nation.

While I am not a fan of politicians backflipping (something you seem adept at) it is a necessity at times due to the constant flux of life.

Howard did take the GST to an election.

However I do agree the “bulldust” as you so eloquently put it is a detraction and possibly one of the reasons they should be rewarded during and after their service.

I am not sure why I am bothering to respond, I guess exam study really is too boring.

They cause the Bulldust. they produce it. They serve themselves more than the country.

Best of luck with exams, genuine comment. Have always admired ppl who study.

Bet if we met we would have more in common than you think.

Generalisations.

I don’t understand how you young blokes think that us old farts have no idea what your needs are. We were young once, too, you know. The difference is that we’ve had more opportunity for life experiences over the intervening years.

I will say, however, that apart from the ‘wisdom of age’, us older folk still think much the same as we did when youger. While some have learned to become more tolerant of others, some have developed a tendency to be more set in their ways. Probably no different to an arrogant young prick who thinks he knows it all.

What does all this have to do with pollies keeping their after-service perks? Nothing.

I’m with you OB.

Why is it that politicians feel that because they gave up X amount of years to be the voice of their respective elective community, generally with very limited thought or fight for what that community wanted, that they should be rewarded and then continued to be rewarded all sorts of perks when the party is over. For christ sake (and I don’t mean to take the good lords name in vane) the vast majority of them when finished with politics end up with nose in the trough directorships on various boards, get high end roles with blue chip companies, end up better off than before being elected and then THEY STILL WANT MORE, for doing absolutely shit whilst in an elected position apart from helping out mates.

Doesn’t really matter which faction they belong too, it’s the same at both ends. I do apologise to the very few who join believing they can make a difference and are fairdinkum. They usually last one election only.

To Yoss & Bump…. Age doesn’t really define how we should be looking at things or whether we have a better understanding of how and why current political agendas work. Actually, being older just means that we have had to put up with this shit for longer and been subjected to a lot more than the younger generations have as yet. I gather you are both pre 35, so when you are 60, think about the conversation you are having now and see if life is better or worse. I can guarantee you the politicians will be no better. I hope for your sake though they are definitely no worse. But I sincerely doubt it.

The key to success is to learn to do something right, then do it right every time. Oh I wish…..

Now a two time winner of the treasured WBT.

What I’m trying not to do is sound like the grumpy old fart I’m edging towards.
Some days are harder than others though.

No Yoss they don’t…not even close to it! Well you better bloody try or you’ll have grey old men, in grey old suits, with grey old ideas for ever.

Bump, you would in my opinion be quite justified in wanting someone to represent you who understands the problems that your age group may have. They will undoubtedly be different to those experienced by the same demographic in the 60’s. Unfortunately a large number of people currently in their 60’s think they already know what those problems are, and frighteningly, think they also have the answers. They don’t! Shake the tree and grab life by the short and curlies. Listen to many, sift the evidence and go your own way.

UH?

Tol, I sleep easy in my bed mostly due to the historically unparalleled global hegemony of the USA.

I do however have enormous respect for the people that serve in our armed forces and believe that probably deserve more. My comment was obviously taken literally which is pretty silly by most of you.

Our political leaders also serve this country as volunteers, like our armed service men and women, and while they are not all exactly who I would like representing us they sacrifice opportunity and a “normal” life. For the most part the deserve what they are paid, and probably more, as well as the retirement perks.

Give yourself a slap, Yoss. There is nothing voluntary about being elected in Government. The rewards are both power and monetary. It is a job with a limited term. It is a job where qualifications don’t seem to count only popularity. Take BobKat as an example of a polly who has been elected continuously 40 years next year. He is a deadset nutter (anybody who has worked with him will agree) who is a very smart polly. This is his normal life, and why would he want to change. Many pollys are overpaid for what they do on behalf of the people who gave them their job. Why pay the pricks more in benefits when they leave. It is all about who makes the rules, and guess who that is.

Totally ignorant about almost everything except golf.
