Rockpool is pretty over rated IMO. Vlados was pretty good – I like how its pretty much just meat and meat there. But seriously if you want to try great meat, try and get your hands on Hopkins River rib eye. I buy cryovac packs direct from the farm through my brother in law and get about 2.5-2.8kg packs for the $80 mark. Without a doubt the best meat i have eaten. Will not buy anything else if i can help it. They sell to alot of restaurants too so you will get it out and about

Hahaha, why don’t i notice these things. C’mon Malcolm, throw an ad in the local paper like everyone else and stick the picture on the wall above the bar.

I went to a place down on the Docklands, the steak was awesome definately in my top 3 ever but can not remember the name, but they had some sort of torches with flames for lighting really good atmosphere. Another great place i found in Melbourne was this Greek place a big two storey joint on the corner of the Greek Precinct, not steaks but the best meat I have ever had, I dont like eating at the same place when on holidays but I could’nt help my self and went there 3 or 4 times.

I used to go to Lazar Charcoal Grill in Johnston St Fitzroy….until it closed in 2006. I used to go there with my dad when I was a kid…..probably going back to about 1972. Bloody fantastic….meat soup, sausages, magnificent steak, strawberry pancakes. Oh…..w w wWOW Very similar to Vlados in Richmond, which isn’t surprising, given that the Lazars worked with Vlado before they opened their own restaurant. There’s a new place in Lower Plenty that looks pretty good that I want to try.

Rare, Little Collins st. Top end. Get the blue cheese sauce. 3 votes. Not sure on Vlados anymore – menu hasn’t changed in 20 years and while the meat is good as ever, that horrendous green salad and inadequate wine list (far better when it was BYO years back) make me believe other steak restaurants have gone past it.

I think that rings a bell, is it as good as I remember or am I just talking it up?
|
|
I don’t see any steak on their table… ......do I believe they even had steak?????

Bugger Melbourne! It’s worth the trip down the freeway to Parkers steakhouse in Geelong. Best steak I have had by a mile and not ridiculously priced either.
|
|
Won’t regret it mate. Not too pricey either.

We went to a “regular” steak haunt last Saturday night (The Hindquarter) in Upper Beaconsfield. I could have cut it with a butter knife.

If I could have any professional golfer’s name and any professional golfer’s hair, I would have Robert Rock’s name and Robert Rock’s hair. |
