WTB: Irons set - looking at $800 (max!) for decent set

Hi everyone, Thought I might give this a try for a mate of mine who wants to buy a decent pair of irons for around the $800 mark. Definitely need clubs that have good forgiveness as he’s a beginner and preferably graphite shaft. Lie/length/grip all regular. Not really fussed about brands and the such but am looking to get one with very good value. If someone has a set that is also half decent for a lower offering price than $800, the chances of purchase are higher. Thanks for looking everyone.

If he is only a beginner, save him some money and go to the Lind Golf site. Then he can spend the rest on lessons and give you a run for your money.

Flusher has a set of Cobra irons for sale..they are excellent irons and are very well priced. http://forums.iseekgolf.com... Amd they are more forgiving than you would think No I do not know Flusher but they are good easy to hit clubs.

I take it you want new clubs?

Realistically, I think he wants one of the major brands because he likes the idea of having good equipment. Not saying that Lind is not good (far from it!), but as a beginner, he’d just feel more comfortable getting one of the big name brands (also realising that he’ll have to pay extra for it too).

|
I don’t expect to get brand new equipment but near new. Also, probably need to clarify…$800 is the MAXIMUM he’ll go. If someone has a decent set for something cheaper (say $600 or so) and it’s good value for money, he’ll definitely consider them. As with anything, the cheaper the offering price, the greater the chance he’ll buy them.

Don’t mean to offend your mate, but looking the part on the tee with smick brand name clubs and then swatting like an A Grad dope is not going to help him. Tell him to swallow the big man pride, learn to play the game and then get some clubs that notice of because he is hitting them well. Better than everybody thinking ‘wanker’ as he poses with his clubs.

Cheers for the link live4golf. Excellent looking clubs and sweet price. I’ll definitely let my mate know.

davego, completely understand what you’re saying. I’m of the same attitude. He just think it’ll give him confidence when going up to hit the ball. He definitely won’t “pose” with them (I wouldn’t play with him if he was like that).

No prob Selks, hope whatever he gets works for him and doesn’t turn out as an expensive exercise. & yr right, flushers set is a darn good one at great value.

You’re right davego, it will be an expensive exercise – I’m already telling him not to get current model clubs at retail golf shops (salespeople would eat him up as he would more than likely buy into the sales pitch hype!!!). Instead, i told him that i’d ask around here for any decent sets – as evidence by the Cobra set, there are some very good deals around. So good I’M thinking about getting the Cobra set ;-)

Nice one, the old double shuffle.

Well – S300s might be a bit heavy / stiff for someone who is learning, unless he’s got a lot of natural coordination / strength. But you are eyeing these yourself, no?

Hi muntz, yes i’d look at the cobras more for me. i think my mate needs a graphite shaft as his clubhead speed is a little slow (although as a baseball player of 6 years, his hand-eye co-ordination is right on). In saying that, I’m no pro – but in getting it measured, my clubhead speed is (by the measurement chart definition) fast. If only I could hit it straighter with more consistency – then again, that’s the name of the game isn’t it?! :)

800 will get you anything u want, if u r prepared to look around the net.

If he’s a beginner & not over the age of 50 then I’d suggest steel in the shaft dept for it’s durability. He’s going to hit his share of fat shots etc. Tell him to get his ass onto eBay USA & go nuts. He should be able to get a killer set of irons for half that money.

get him to a demo day
nearly??!!! |
|
don’t be scared of S300s if you’ve got a half decent swing – I’ve just upgraded to some RAC LTs with those shafts and they feel fine – no problems launching the ball at all and generally less dispersion more feedback though – if you don’t time it you lose some distance
