We are currently redoing many areas of the entire site in the background to make things much better and in the end more useful to everyone who visits iseekgolf.

We are also working on new features for the forums but want to hear what everyone wants as you are the guys who are using it every day.

We know about PM’s (so let’s not go there :) ) but we want to hear about any ideas you have that you think may improve the forums or things that you find frustrating that we can fix.

We’re definitely going to improve the search for the forums as we know that is one that people want fixed.

We appreciate any feedback or suggestions.

Possibly use ip addresses from peoples computers so people get banned by ip and not by login name?

Not sure if that would help the crazy guy Tai to keep away.. or stay away.

And i’m not a computer whiz but thought that would be an easier way? Unless you already do that heh.

These guys have some decent things along the lines of profile pages and navigation…might be worth copying some ideas.

I certainly think the quote feature needs improving. I have finally managed to work it out, but havent yet tried doing multiple quotes. The easier everything is the more likely it will get used, but thats obvious!

I would also suugest that the monitoring feature is improved. So that you can delete yourself from threads quickly and you can get to your monitored threads without having to go into one, unless that exists and I’m just a complete ass!

The difference between golf and the government is that in
golf you can't improve your lie!

Unless i’m missing something there is nowhere that I can access my monitored posts or “all posts” unless i havppen to be on a page where one of my posts appears. Can we have a link to our own Info on the top right of the page ( if there isn’t one already that i can’t see)

Also perhaps a sticky somewhere that has all the info a newcomer would require to properly make posts i.e. Quoting, bolding, etc

Also can we have it so that when we click on a persons name and go to their profile we can see their Avatar in a larger scale. Its not that i really want to check out Muntz driving style at St. Andrews, its more Racinfarmers granddaughter!!

Thanks Guys…

Have_clubs: Yes that is true and easily fixed – consider it done.

The Walrus: Yes quotes are going to be changed to be easier. Multiple quotes are always a bitch on any forum but certainly some are easier than what we have.

With regards to the monitored posts – will improve that and make an easy link to get to your posts.

frankyb: Thanks that is the forum software we used to use a year or two ago and got rid of. It is okay but really bloated over the years and made it very hard to integrate with the rest of the site.

Kiwi_golf_nutter: We ban by IP and/or username. Problem is of course is most people have dynamic IP addresses and not static which means next time you login you get a different IP and the IP ban means nothing. Might be easier just to ship Tai free medication?

Would medication be known as a noose? :)

I used to like the profile with the clubs you played etc shown on the side of posts.

The latest posts page is a pain for someone who like me reads each thread in a new tab.

Emoticons and a better ability to format text.

Ability to attach largish files, especially for people wanting to post swing vids, youtube kills the quality.

Search function needs a stack of work…easier to find threads searching through google than using the forum search some times.

Personally, I would like some sort of restraint on users changing names. It is bizarre reading old threads where people refer to a user that has changed names, makes it hard to keep track.

down and out…did ya get that?

Thansk Toolish…

1. Yes they’re coming back
2. Not sure why? Can you explain this more pls. It’s the same as it was on the old forums but happy to hear any feedback
3. Emoticons may or may not make a return but formatting text will be much easier to do
4. You can attach large files now – you just can’t attach video files.

This will change to allow anyone to upload any file type so you’ll be able to avi’s or whatever you need. Although uploading to vimeo and then embedding here will stop any problems with video quality like youtube.

5. As mentioned in my opening post search is going to be far better.

6. Yes good point. We got hassled like hell for not having that feature on the old forums then when we changed it, we got hassled for letting people change it. Can’t win :)

Just make it like ebay, where you can only chage it every month or two (or more) and there is a clear audit-trail of previous usernames.

Maybe even an star next to their username for the first 30 days to show that their name has changed.

Same feedback as what I gave here.

http://forums.iseekgolf.com...

Every other forum I go to works fine in that you open the new posts list and then you can go back and forth between any pages on the list as much as you like. Threads that are opened in a new tab do not affect the list as each time you load the next page it is not doing a new search, just refering back to the search it has already done. If you get waht I mean.

3. Emoticons may or may not make a return but formatting text will be much easier to do

In my mind emoticons add a lot to a forum, they are like the body language of a forum, they can totally change to context of the text.

Another wone….when quoting is there really a need for the users signature to be part ofthe quote?

down and out…did ya get that?

Thanks Toolish

Emoticons are some people’s nightmare and others love them so we take your love of them on board but also many people find them distracting.

Quoting is just grabbing the whole text of the post you click which includes the signature atm. Quoting will be much smarter in the new version.

We’ll look at the latest posts issue but it is essentially doing what it should which is to mark something as read when you have read it, which is what you are doing by reading it in a new tab.

I think what you are saying is that other forums are essentially caching the latest posts results and you can flick through page 1, page 2, page 3 etc and it is not going away and getting new info – it is using what the original search found.

Yep…that is it, caches the results then clears the cache once you have left the latest posts page all together.

down and out…did ya get that?

I’ll go with Toolish on the emotes.

A button (or preference) to hide the right hand side that has the ads.

Another pref to hide signatures.

When you quote someone, to have their name in the quoted part so you know who said what.

A preview button before you post.

And a 2nd vote for emoticons.

1. Oh dear….
2. Oh dear….
3. Yes that will be there
4. Yep there will be a preview button
5. Noted

got another one for you Admin. Can we have forum names with more than one word, or at least let mine fit in the screen!!

We’ll be standardising them down to the number they should have been in the first place so yours wouldn’t have slipped through :) It does fit on the screen because it’s not meant to be allowed.

does that mean i have to change It?? If so I will do it sooner rather than later

We’ve already addressed the print link for Paul’s articles and know that it’s going to happen – I’d also like to see some grouping if at all possible of the articles – ie part 1,2 and 3 of a subject in the one link with headings the same and the part number identifying the seperation.

Also would very much like to see in the profile of each member their country and state of residence and maybe their club if they have one.

Finally – what about a similar to LB’s where members names are displayed when online and how many guests are visiting.. That’s be good when the PM’s arrive…oops didn’t mean to bring em up again..sawry admin

Political Correctness is doctrine fostered by a delusional minority and by the media, which holds forth the proposition it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

'If you can read this, thank a teacher, and since it's in English,

Yep country and state coming but of course that is up to the individual to enter in to the system.

Number of people online is always available at the bottom of the front page.

3 Suggestions…

1. Email notification of new posts to topics you have posted in (or subscribed to).
2. Ability to show/hide signatures.
3. Emotions :) (would look great with a big smiley face there!!)

why hide sigatures? just don’t add them if you don’t want to – they’re only there for a member to express themselves – a choice :-)

I’ve never seen that before…lol well done Admin and touche’

Like the new set up with the Profile corner
Would it be worth having an instruction page for different things you can do with posts? ie: multible quotes and loading video’s etc, etc.

My wife says I'm obsessive compulsive. I say cant be that bad, there's
about 800 of us where I go every Saturday...
