C'mon Lleyton

I hate tennis. To me it was always the soft option for weak kids
who were afraid of the cricket ball. I find it really boring to
watch, excpet when the hotties like Sharapova are battling it out
in a lather of sweat Anyway, young Lleyton got up of the canvas today when down two sets to one and beat some no name bloke from Argentina. Many a lesser man would have given up and dipped out in 4 sets, but not "our Lleyton". The boy does have a serious crack. Clearly our best player since Pat Cash, another who usually found a way to win when the odds were stacked against. So refreshing to see someone like Lleyton Hewitt doing well, he's even nailing a decent looking bird these days which just adds to the value of his stock. Can you imagine what Rafter or Fall-to-pieces would have done today under the same circumstances? - straight out in four "thank you very much" Go Lleyton Jack.

Steady Jack. you'll rupture something. Young Raphael is from Spain BTW, not an argie. And that was a special game of tennis from two very similar players who hate to lose. Great game Jerry

Yep awesome game...wish some of the golfers got as excited as LLeyton about winning, great TV!

Ricky Barnes tried at Huntingdale but all the "conservatives" gave him a ragging!

does anybody actually like Lleyton???...and i'm not talking about his tennis game.
woodsie, I do - I think he's terrific. And by all accounts (I know two people who know him personally) he's a good bloke off the court - softly spoken and humble.
I agree Henry - I do rate young Lleyton very highly and know many of others who do as well. A top bloke by all acounts. You have to admire abloke with a bit of "Rex Hunt" in him at those vital stages. Jack

Damo - spot on. The game doesn't do much for me, and isn't it great for the kiddies to see someone like Lleyton become a role model. But having said that, tonights Molik vs Williams game was a cracker. They both had a red-hot go, and Molik was just too good running Venus off her feet. And not one "C'mooorrrrnnnn".
first, i think lleyton is an awesome aussie, gives everything he
has got in every game he plays, and just love the way he goes
about it, jack, to have a go at rafter like that is pretty harsh.
rafter was 10 times the player cash was, and was a decent bloke
to go with it, and what's that crap about him giving up in
tight situations.
so in future, hang crap on people you know something about, cause
it is obvious you dont know much about tennis players!!
He might be a good bloke off the court, but he is a tosser on
it. That said, he does have a crack at it, and for someone without any real talent, besides his effort, running and never say die attitude, he's gone a long way. But yeah, he is playing a chicks game...

Cmmmmmmmmoooooonnnnnn
Lleyton is great for tennis, and you guys know it
leyton does what he needs to do to get his game going...and if that means more winning...more power to him...
at least he gets the crowd involved...
his game against blake especially the 2nd set was the best so far this tournament.
But this is going back to the McEnroe days... perhaps a little less Peruvian Marching Powder, but let the tennis do the talking. Mc was a good enough player to not have to resort to the carrying on. Mind you - THAT was entertainment. Lleyton's a good player and good to watch, but it seems this summer he brings out the "Cmmooooooooorrrrnn's" every 2nd damn point... and frankly, it's getting boring. Not to mention that retarded salute he does...

Everyone has their own opinion about his antics on the court. I don't think there is anything wrong with them. Its exciting and gets the crowd involved. I was at the Davis cup final against Spain in Melbourne in 2003. It was the first time I'd been to a tennis match and it was the most amazing atmosphere I have ever been involved in. Mostly just because of Lleyton's 5 set win against Juan Carlos on the first day. And also the Poo on the third day. How can you say that the guy has no talent?????? He was number 1 in the world for about 80 weeks on the trot. He absolutely whipped Pete Sampras in the US Open final, a man who along with Rod Laver is regarded as the best ever. And don't say Sampras was a has been, because he won the tournament a year or two later. He won the Masters cup 2 years in a row against the best players in the world. How can you say such a stupid thing? As for the chicks game, I dont think so. Maybe in years past. But now with the power and stamina needed to play at the top level it is definitely a game for the men. Theres my two cents.

A lot of tall poppy syndrome carry on in here...
But somehow a lot of us Aussies like to shut him down... Wot the
hell for?? A lot of soft, un-Australian, maybe jealous comments flying around in here... Geez...Give the bloke some support... He's a top aussie i rekn... Portrays everything us Aussies are about... Go Lleyton...
No, if he was a constant loser it's fair to say we'd have a crack at him. The fact he's good at his sport doesn't enter into this - the 'Tall Poppy' card has been incorrectly played here.
This is true. To harmonise with our current foreign policy we should all be a little more racist, arrogant and unwilling to consider those around us.

There's definitely a sense of ownership over our sports stars. It's easier to see it in the Brits who give their stars an absolute hammering. Somebody, or maybe it was Lleyton himself, convinced him to focus much better after that fraccas at the US Open and he went on to win. Watching yesterday, I couldn't help but think that he had toned down the c'mons after the criticism he received. If this is a repeat of the US Open where suddenly he lifted another level mid-tournament then he's a chance to win this tournament. One thing I find overwhelmingly impressive about Hewitt is how often when the game is in the balance, he can wrap things up in the blink of an eye. His opponents in tight games must wonder what hit them.
I agree that the ticker he shows on court is second to none, but
the theatrics are driving me nuts.
The bottom line is that he does what he thinks he needs to do to win!!! Shouldn't we be supporting an AUSSIE who wants to win... or have we all gone too soft...??
A few ppl in here im sure are dying to say to Lleyton: You girls can go play soccer or netball... Wot a crock!!!! Get real...where's the patriotic Ausie spirit most of us true Aussie's love... Where's the fighting spirit and determination... never say die attitude... doin wot he has to win.. and that's what Lleyton does... Good on him Arrogant & unwilling to consider others around him??? Who gives a sh!t... He does this so he wins.. These days if ya can get into your opponents head you've almost won the match...
Fishy, that is absolute crap. The guy is not a racist - the ITF conducted an investigation into the James Blake incident and found that Hewitt had nothing to answer for. What he said was misinterpreted.
Lleyton is by no means a perfect individual, but he isn't a
racist.
He might get the crowd involved, but not me. I don't get excited just because everyone else does. If you do thats great, but anyone who works himself up so much that he calls himself Rocky is a corksucker in my mind. As for the chicks game, I dont think so. Maybe in years past. But now with the power and stamina needed to play at the top level it is definitely a game for the men. Get your hand off it mate, they are hitting a bright yellow ball over a net with rackets, showing off their new fancy clothes for their sponsors. It's hardly a blokey game.

I support the good of the sport. Federer is a great athlete. Agassi is great for tennis. Sampras - albeit tagged as 'boring', was the ultimate professional. Edberg, Becker... Hewitt doesn't play the same game, and carries on like a pork chop doing it.
Thanks. I played last night.
If he has to resort to mind game to back up his tennis, then where's the skill in that? It seems you are a low-marker - would you be annoyed if your playing partner said "Tough sh!t" after every shot you played? I think you would. But that's ok, he's just trying to get into your head...
You don't win 2 Grand Slams without 'ANY' talent... I'll accept that Federer is better than him at the moment... But Hewitt's an aussie... Support him... If an aussie golfer had won 2 majors in recent years... 99% of us would have given our slugs a thrashing over it... Don't be surprised if Lleyton beats him in the final...Simply because he wants it more... not because he is more talented... But because it is as much a mind game as physical...(Like any sport)... his determination and desire to win will pull him over the line... Where's the skill in using his mental ability more so than his physical skill??? There's a heck of a lot of skill involved in that... And who cares... like you say in golf...'u don't draw pictures, you just write down the score'... or 'it doesn't matter how.. its how many'... if he resorts to gettin into his opponents head to win matches...im all for it And i think its a bit far-fetched to try and compare golf and tennis... totally different sports... If someone said 'tough sh!t' after each shot i played it would be un-sportsmanlike... everyone knows that... and yelling out 'c'mon (TO YOURSELF) on a tennis court when the crowd is also yelling and screaming is a totally different kettle of fish...
