well f*%k me. just read on fox sports that greg bird’s sister thinks its the sharks fault. yeah. they made him smash his girlfriend in the face with a glass. sure he’s her brother but wtf are these people thinking? i really hope he gets jail time. animals like that should be behind bars.

Quote: Bird’s sister said the league and the Sharks should also be held to account, claiming they were part of the system that took her brother out of the family home and moved him to Sydney when he was 17. “A teenage kid has to go straight to an adult looking after themselves,” Lacey Bird said. “All the clubs really do is dump them at a home and tell them what training days they’ve got. “They’re not really looking after them. They’re just dumping them at places. If they want to take teenage kids away from their families at such a young age, they should take responsibility for their actions.” WTF???

That really is amazing, obviously the whole family have a failure to accept responsibility. He would have to get time for it, I imagine it would be pretty high profile in the east?

|
If he is indeed guilty, I would imagine his tactics to evade and mislead the police early on will not work favourably with regards to his conviction and sentencing.

yeah, deliberately misleading police is similar to perverting the course of justice, so yeah it won’t look good. I’m still amazed by his sisters comments. i don’t think he would have been taken against his will! “oh no sir, with my intelligence i’d rather stay here and become a doctor so i can help people” “quick, throw him in the van and lets go!”

The poor prick – at 17 he should have been mature enough to make up his mind about life and what attitude to have – Kids make up their minds to be surgeons etc at 16 – I had no family at 14 and was living in a boarding house – never hit a woman in my life and wouldn’t for any reason, let alone glass anyone. Bloody coward! Bet his parents and sibling/s didn’t mind him being selected and leaving home – bet they encouraged it! Now it’s the Leagues fault! I’m with you Dr G. he must have been kidnapped, the poor piece of shite!
Political Correctness is doctrine fostered by a delusional
minority and by the media, which holds forth the proposition it
is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end. |

Yeah, the NRL & the Sharks should take responsibility for removing Bird from his family as a teenager, giving him an opportunity to play league at the highest level, then making him glass his girlfriend in the face several years later.

You must have been there Gribbles, standing behind the door!!! are you and this lacey Bird having a “thing”??? seriously though, he will no doubt have a high profile QC and that will probably save him from getting a lagging, although a lot will depend on the seriousness of her injuries a bit further down the track. The fact he tried to mislead the coppers will count for nothing. If he tries to lie to the court and is proven guilty they will take that into account, but the courts assume that eveyone lies to the coppers, so that won’t cost him anything. The club’s do have a level of responsibility when they take the youngsters from the bush to the city , but from what i know they do actually meet those responsibilities in most cases. I know that many are put with families of local players. Jarrod Mullen’s dad is a mate of mine and he has had Corey Patterson living with them for a good while. Patterson came from Perth originally. I think “avoiding responsibility “could be an olympic sport with many of the current younger generation. I know my kids aren’t bad at it, even if it is only on minor things. Everything is always someone else’s fault.

It will be interesting to see what the victim (his US girlfriend) says. If she points the finger at Bird then he will have to plead guilty, notwithstanding any high profile QC in his corner. But from what I hear, it’s all circumstantial evidence now. No one saw the incident (yet). Either way, looks as though this Bird has played his last NRL game. Good riddance!

Have Clubs: hahaha. For the record, I know several footballers who have/do play for the cowboys and have one friend who played for the raiders many years ago. throughout my ranting over the past few days regarding this subject, it may sound like i hate footballers. which couldn’t be more wrong, i don’t “hate” anyone. Its more the fact that several of them treat people like dirt, thats what i can’t stand. and i don’t like violence either. and i wasn’t suggesting he should know everything at a young age either, but honestly, if he is proven to have done this, then there really can be no defence to such a disgusting act.

I read somewhere that there were several witnesses. Whether they actually saw what happened or perhaps were neighbours who hay have heard the comotion obviously wasn’t outlined. Whilst he allegedly told the police it was his flatmate, that probably wasn’t what went in his record of interview, so it becomes irrelevant to a large degree. If I had gone with the first story i was told by a crook every time i spoke to them, many things would have turned out differently. Its like talking to a 7 yr old who is standing in the kitchen with a broken plate in front of them. The first thing they always say is “it wasn’t me”. The next thing they normally say is “it was tommy/ billy/ whoever”. It normally takes about 2 questions to get the truth. Bird is only slightly above that level of behaviour

Life is about choices, if we choose to hit someone in the face with a bottle or a glass, then we must live with the consequences…. These guys don’t learn about consequences until it really bites them on the ass, then sometimes it’s too late… with this moron it may already be too late… bet he don’t do it again… I learn’t about consequences when I got six of the best in 3rd class…

Well said. It’s a shame that a lot of these top sportsmen don’t understand this simple concept. Once again, I feel sorry for the girl. I read that thankfully she won’t lose her sight, which is a God-send. She reads like an intelligent person with a law degree etc. I just wonder what she was doing with a low life like Bird? A part of me wants to say that she should have known what she may have in for but despite this no one deserves to be glassed.
|
|
i also just read that she has engaged the services of a lawyer, who has a business/personal relationship to bird’s manager/management company, and that she has not yet made a statement to police. it’s starting to sound like she’s not going to press charges, maybe… i wouldn’t be surprised if there was some sort of “pay off”. but i agree with numbers, it is good to hear she is not going to lose her sight.

I can’t believe his girlfriend declares her love for him, & that she’ll support him through this ordeal. I wonder what story Bird & his dumb girlfriend are going to come up with to explain the injuries – Greg was practising his offloads with a glass & it accidently hit me in the face.
