All, went to Beavers testimonial last night. 16 years of top grade football, a one club man in a world of Mundines and $BW’s. So proud of the bloke and the club he plays for. Cliffy Lyons in attendence, Arko spoke. Sometimes you just gotta say, “I love my League”

I can’t stand Manly (Ian Roberts proved how Manly they are) but Beaver is an all time legend. He’ll be missed when he goes.

most of you boys know that I’m a massive afl fan, and not the biggest supporter of league. however i have to say across all sportspeople in australia, steve menzies has always struck me as a true gentleman, and a perfect example to young kids of how a professional athlete should conduct themselves.

Beaver is one of the gentlemen of the game – a fair competitor every week and is a rare commodity in the game these days being a one man club.

He’s certainly adjusted his game now that he is getting older and not as quick as he used to be but still pops up at the right place at the right time.

Cheers,

Mick

If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten.

well said boof. i have to say the only other league player who i see in the same class (as a footballer, role model and human being) is fitzgibbon. Menzies’ class will be sorely missed

No where near “legend” status but a Manly great – who’s achievements are a credit to him and the way he conducts himself

Interesting to think that you believe he should stand among the likes of Churchill, Fulton, Gasnier and Raper et al then ?

You said he wasnt a legend, so I just thought that you meant he must be better than that, although some will say I am a biased MANLY supporter.

No – actually I said he was a “Manly great” and yes I do think you are a biased Manly supporter.

Is the beaver retiring from league altogether or just cashing in’ in english superleague? good luck to him!
